  1. Hi All, As the title says do you have any experience with Riso printers? We are looking at replacing the various printers and old copier with a few new better units and one of my suppliers has just suggested Riso as a good alternative. I had never heard of them but the technology looks interesting as they seem to be using some sort of inkjet.
  2. Take a look at Learnpad...app deployment is done from their website and there is a library of apps there already... You can buy their tablets or use their software on your own...
  3. Quite a few of my friends and relations have had calls from these guys and fortunately they were savvy enough to contact me and ask if the calls were kosher. I have been called 4 times so far and have had great fun stringing them along and deliberately messing up their script by giving conflicting answers. On one call the (probably) Indian gentleman tried to win me over by asking what my favourite football team is. When I told him I don't follow football he got very confused as his script obviously said that all British guys love football On another occasion, once I finally persuaded the guy that I really did know my way around a computer and that I earned my living (Ha!) fixing and programming them he asked me for a job! The sick part of this scam of course is not just that they take money for doing nothing but clearing the event log, but that they know they can call the user back in a month or two and the logs will be filled with lots of new "viruses" that they can charge for "removing"...
  4. I don't need a terabit line at school just something faster than the measly 8meg line we have at present!
  5. I was asked recently what my favourite website is...and overall I have to say this is it here tokyoplastic The design of the animations and the fun ideas within are just amazing! If I am feeling down on a wet afternoon the site always cheers me up and I can play for ages with all the different areas...
  6. Twenty years is long enough at my age... [EDIT] Rogue attachment deleted... thank you @DaveP
  7. I have had a couple of teachers here ask to move their desks away from the wall and they were told quite firmly that if they did then they would have to leave the computer etc by the wall/IWB and the best solution we found was a filing cabinet.
  8. I have a friend who is a 747 pilot and he is amazed that anybody chooses to sit at home simulating his job which he describes as very well paid boredom most of the time! I do enjoy a good combat flight simulator though because that at least has some action...I love my Spitfire...
  9. It is just a roundabout with 3 major and 4 minor roads joining it, I don't see how anything but traffic lights could make it work as there is just too much traffic trying to get on/off the motorway. As I said it works ok when drivers respect the lights, as then there are enough "gaps" to let the side traffic on/off the roundabout. Before the lights the drivers just queued nose to tail around the roundabout and would rarely let anybody join from the sides.
  10. Sounds good, but not in several lifetimes...unless all cars are replaced at once...or if special roads for those with money are created...actually the present government wouldn't have too much of a problem with that last idea
  11. There is a very large roundabout just before the motorway near where I live and without the lights they added a while back it was impossible to get onto it from anything but the three main routes on/off it. The other more minor roads were blocked by the constant queues of cars from the main roads, especially at peak times. Even with the lights it is not easy as so many drivers ignore the amber stop light which means there are very few gaps for the traffic from the minor roads to join. Thankfully all the roads are being converted to traffic light controlled ones. With regard to speed limits, for a while now I have kept my speed down to no more than a speedo indicated 70 (ie probably actually about 65) and the savings in fuel have been amazing!
  12. So far today, one tablet not charging due to a loose USB connection...and one laptop playing video at half speed due to the user pressing the wrong key...and that's it... Tomorrow will be a b*tch I bet
  13. So you can run your whole house as long as none of the useful things are switched on?
  14. While the optics are important for capturing and resolving the light that makes up an image it is the sensor that translates that light into a digital picture that makes the biggest difference. A DSLR can resolve far more detail due to it's sensor being like a plate glass window compared to the postage stamp sensor in compact and smartphone cameras. This diagram shows the differences... The reason I love my now somewhat aged EOS350D is that I can pick it up and take a picture pretty much instantly rather than waiting for the camera to power up wind the lens out and then finally focus and decide whether the flash is needed...
  15. Learnpad has the ability to connect to network shares. I even was able to create a QR code to automate copying all photos to a share. I believe the next version will include an option for users to connect to their own user to connect to their network home folder by scanning a barcode.
  16. My feelings exactly...you are at a primary aren't you?
  17. Or just come and visit us at school...at least when you leave it behind it will go to a good home *only joking...probably...
  18. Well I got a gorilla onesie!
  19. Some computers, laptops, tablets, phones and a wireless router connected to a Virgin "super" hub configured as a modem. Oh and an old HP print server sharing an old HP DeskJet printer. Next upgrade will probably be a NAS of some sort Ooops I forgot, a pair of power over mains thingys for the TV
  20. Something extra for Xmas dinner?
  21. So what about all the other folks that were treated the same as Turing? Or do you have to have done something amazing for your country before a conviction for a crime that should never have been a crime is overturned? Or do they now think he wasn't homosexual and didn't commit the acts he was convicted of committing which were against the law in those less enlightened times? A posthumous knighthood or top level medal would have been a far more fitting gesture IMHO.
  22. At the risk of sounding like a Virgin fanboy...how can it be any more reliable? The last time* I lost broadband was during the summer when road contractors in Portsmouth chopped through the cables...hardly Virgin's fault and it was back in action within 48 hours... Oh and even BT's estimate of the speed I could get with Infinity is lower than the solid 60Mbps I get from Virgin. [EDIT] *and only
  23. I may be (not maybe actually) a grumpy git but I did put the xmas decorations up on the Intranet pages although when I say put them up they actually appear automatically appear after December 1st and vanish before we return in January. On the other hand if I didn't include falling snow on the pages then I don't suppose many people would notice the difference! Hmmmmmpf *walks off mumbling to himself*
  24. Sorry, much too cold here to "bare" with you...you are not Finnish by any chance
  25. We use CS New Media...they have been great and very reasonably priced (I won't call it cheap as that has negative connotations) with excellent service!* *no I don't get any pay back from this recommendation
