This is one reason why we generate our students passwords and don't allow them to change it. The main reason is they would change it and then forget it, which made a lot of work on our end to reset it. By setting their password and not letting them change it, we have full control and a master list.

Here in the US, CIPA requires filtered Internet for everyone. It doesn't say how filtered, but needs to be filtered. And our eRate requires CIPA compliance, so if we opened it unfiltered for teachers, we could risk losing federal funding. Big no no. Also, all it takes is one teacher to click the wrong link, and the projector screen in front of the little kids will be filled with inappropriate popups and images..... There's is no good reason to have unfiltered internet in a school.

In the middle of switching now. Obvious pro is saving money: we are getting 6x the speeds for half the cost. Our previous contract was five years, and five years ago 50mb was great. Now we are bumping up to 300mb on a three year contract, and can readdress then if needed. Cons are its a PITA to change all our public facing IPs. We have about 50 total IPs to change routing and firewall info for. Not hard, but time consuming. Email, website, sharepoint, VoIP, CCTV, alarms, etc all have to change. But in our case it's worth it. Just document everything so your change is seamless.

Hey all, We rarely give our teachers local admin access, but we have a few teachers that run programs that require it. With Windows 10, of they are a local admin it blocks the opening of Windows Apps (calculator, photos, video, edge, etc). Is there a way to override the block? We understand the safety reason for the block, but understand the risk and it doesn't matter us. Thanks!

We use Netgear for all our switches, and Unifi for the wireless. Their 48pt PoE Pro switches are great, and priced about $700, with lifetime warranty, can't be beat. We have about 40 total and have had zero issues.

Unifi all the way. I a have over 300 deployed between three school buildings, and zero issues. Supports 1:1 devices, teachers devices, BYOD, etc. works great. We push about 800gb of traffic on the wireless every day.

Works great. I have two elementary schools with about 600 kids each using it fine for teachers and students. No issues here.

Hey all, Is anyone using Unifi and Smoothwall BYOD Radius? I can not get the two to work well together. I can get Unifi to ask for username and password, and Smoothwall authenticates via AD and allows access, but Smoothwall is not applying filtering policies based on the username. Looking for some steps to check. Thanks!

Hey all I'm looking for software or a script that can ping our active directory computers every morning at 6am, and email any computers that don't respond. Our reasoning is we have all our computers WOL at 5am, and we want to see which computers aren't waking up, or are unplugged, etc. A free solution would be best. Thanks!

Hey all. Maybe you can help me with an issue. I keep forgetting my iPad in offices and classrooms as I'm working on an issue. Sometimes I'll grab a tower to take back to the tech room and leave my iPad on the desk, only to have a small heart attack when I need it later Does anyone know of an iPhone app that will beep if it can't see my iPad via bluetooth? This way I wouldn't walk too far without my iPad. Any other thoughts to stop leaving it behind? Thanks.
