Shutdownertron v1.3.3214 is available at Shutdownertron. This release fixes a couple of bugs, plus a full re-write of the local configuration tool and a slight change to the policy definitions (in preparation for a new feature to be released at some future date). Important: The way things are done changes slightly, so please check the following instructions: 1. The Group Policy template is no longer included in the .zip file, but is integrated into the installer. It is not installed by default; you must select it as a feature during install, and it is placed in the INF folder of your Windows installation (usually, C:\Windows\Inf). This makes it much easier to add the template to a GPO if you are installing for the first time, since this is the default location. It also means that if you install the template on a machine with the Group Policy Console, and then proceed to use it, the console upgrades an existing installation automatically. 2. Part of the policy definition has changed, specifically one of the string values has become a numerical value. This means that you must upgrade your agents and your group policy at the same time, and it means that you must check the value of the "Shutdown Mode" setting in Group Policy. Set it to either Shutdown or Reboot. If you have multiple policies, do this in each one. To upgrade the policy, you just need to install the templates on a machine with the Group Policy Management Console installed, and use the GPMC to edit your objects. Shutdownertron's templates will be uploaded to the server automatically. 3. The local configuration tool is now a proper Windows application, rather than an Autoit script with gloss. This reduces the file size by something in the region of 60%, and increases performance significantly. The installer also no longer loses your override preference during an upgrade, however for this release you will still need to set your preference again after upgrade. In the future it will no longer be a problem. All other changes are detailed in the changelog. Once again, your feedback is very much appreciated (especially bugs).

I know I bang on about it a lot, but I'm after some feedback for development (otherwise I bore easily, and nobody wants that ) So if you've deployed it (or haven't) any comments?

Hi All, Have been experiencing some strange issues with one of our Servers a HP Proliant ML350 running 2008, it randomly switches off and starts up again. This isn't a clean shutdown and happens mainly at night, in fact its only happened twice or there about in the last 6 months during the day, but has happened 19 times during the night in the same period. Checking event viewer / system logs I'm left with "The previous system shutdown at 05:06:51 on 24/10/2011 was unexpected." looking at all other logs there is non that are even close to the shutdown times. After this, last Thursday during the night the server switched off but this time was stuck on a blank screen with "internal health problem" and "external (power supply) health problem" I was unaware of the internal health LEDs so didn't check but switching the UPS off and back on and the server booted fine. This is the first time its done this so as you can understand - quite worried! Checked temperature both with software and a temp probe. It seems to be fine, nothing over 40 degrees. All fans are running. Everything is working OK even when the server is under load. There is no scheduled tasks, but as I said before the times are completely random. I was thinking it could be a UPS problem but there is another server attached to this which doesn't reboot, and its just had a new battery. So any ideas what I could check or do? Cheers!

Hello i have been checking around on how to fix shutdown access denied 5 and i found tat you can change some thing in secpol.msc>expand local policies>user rights assigment> but i dont know what to change there

Hi all, Shutdown software that works on Windows 7 & 8 ? Need to schedule, configure and deploy remotely from server 2012. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers.

Hi, I have an issue which is effecting multiple sites and multiple dell optiplex models. All was working well until about 4 months ago. Teachers would come into school in the morning and the green power button would be lit up, the dvd drive can be ejected, but there is no display. Pushing the power button does not bring it out of a hibernate\standby state. The only way to get the computer to boot up is to do a dirty shutdown. However there are no event logs saying that there was a dirty shutdown. I have tried: updating bios firmware updating video drivers setting shutdown/wakeup schedules. Full windows update Removed all power management settings. BIOS config has not changed. Has anyone else come across this issue or have any advise on what direction I should be heading towards. Thanks, Warren

I recently got employeed as a tech at a secondary school but in the mornings I get contracted to a Junior School. It is quite a big junior school and I look after the whole IT department by myself. Being quite new to this I feel I've been thrown in at the deep end so expect a few threads from me in the near future. Any ways I got a problem come in today about a staff members computer not switching itself on in the mornings like all the rest. Being busy this saves alot of time for them. On my way back to my office to inverstigate this the IT Manager (He only really signs things I order etc. He doesn't look after any of the infastructure) asked me to check the Shut down script for one of the rooms as he thinks the computers had been on all weekend. Now like I said being new to all this I have no idea where to even start looking for start up and shut down scripts or how to edit them etc. If some one could just chuck some basics my way I'm sure I could work my way from there. Thanks

Shutdownertron is a decentralised, fully group policy-controlled, automated shutdown mechanism. Features: Group policy control over every feature User abortable if permitted Runs as a service, even if there is no user logged on Decentralised (policy is cached in case of network loss) Customisable display text and warning time Local override tool to prevent specific machines shutting down Can shutdown or reboot MSI agent deployment Version 1.2 is available at http://www.powdarrmonkey.net/shutdownertron/ This is a production release. (Requires .NET v2.0) Contents: MSI for deployment by your chosen method; transforms to control installation of the local override tool (by default, installed on demand); group policy template to add to a GPO. Shutdownertron understands group policy inheritance, so you can specify generic options near the top of your units and more specific differences (eg. shutdown time) further down. If you use Shutdownertron (or evaluate it and choose not to), please detail your experiences to shape future releases.

All I have an interesting problem that I thought I had solved, but after a couple of test runs, it turns out I haven't. So here is my problem any ideas on a solution would greatly be received. - I have a 3 node MS cluster, supporting 15 vm's - 1 APC UPS supporting the 3 node MS cluster and APC's Network Shutdown software In the event of a shutdown event I would like to shutdown the vm's before the hosts. I have tried writing a script that gets fired when the host system log records a 1074 ID (Shutdown Request from "shutdown.exe -f -s -t 00"). However, this script gets ignored or gets bypassed as the server performs an automated shutdown. This then leads to the vm's within the cluster either being in a failed or critical state. As I said any ideas on how to get the vm's to close first would be greatly appreciated.

I have a a machine in an office that when you log in using all but the secretary's profile, it shuts down. I can log in with hers and the machine works fine. It also shuts down when I log in locally. Her permissions are limited. Any ideas?

Hello everyone, I want to push a scheduled task to turn off the computers in Windows 10 by GPO, but I can not. Despite all my research and my various tests from many posts found here or everywhere on the web, no way to achieve it. Here is the configuration that seems most prevalent on the web that does not work: I did the testing with an admin account in the AD and the system account with the option "Run only when user is logged on" which would seem to be the option to previle and the option "Run whether user is logged" on or not ". This configuration works when I test it locally on a machine and the GPO is deployed, because several other parameters are included in it and they are applied. I do a gpupdate /force after each replication to make sure that everything is on the computer ... AD is on Windows Server 2012 and computer is on Windows 10 1709 EDU. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Ive got a small and rather annoying problem with a netbook I have. The problem is it won't shut down then you tell it to shut down it just restarts, its using windows xp. Its an Asus. Ive tried using the CMD to restart and then shutdown to shut it down, System restore, check disk, disabled AV software and I think ive tried more, but can't remember thought i could put up with it but i cant take it anymore!

Hi, I am looking for a script to put on about 100 computers, to shut down at a certain time, i'm wondering if any one can help me with this? Thanks

Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good bit of software for Power Management across a network? We are currently trialling Impero but it is a bit buggy and doesn't give quite as much control as we'd like (e.g. Shutdown this PC unless someone is logged on) without a lot of workarounds. I've also looked at SpiceWorks but this has even less control (not that it's bad for a free bit of software!) Any advise on what other people use and what your experience is would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi all, We have one of the bigger cabinet UPS systems and am in the process of setting it to ensure that it shuts down my machines gracefully in the event of a power cut. So having worked with APC's and Powerchute in the past I went to Riello's website and looked at what they have to offer in terms of UPS software. Now they seem to have multiple options of doing what I want to achieve and just wondered if anyone may have used these UPS's and could advise the way they found worked best, or if they employed multiple options. So they have a bit of software called Powershield. Which is where you go and connect it to the UPS over the network (the only connection to the UPS we have), they say that you install this software on every physical machine you have and in the event of a power issue the machine will look at the job list and (if battery low for instance) shut down or you can also get it to run a script. The way I see it you could in fact just have this installed on one machine, then get it to run a script that shuts down all the other machines. They also provide a Vm shutdown script to use for VM's and hosts. Issue there is that if the power comes back on the script is already running, and as there are a fair few systems to shutdown it could be an issue. The other issue with this software if we install it on every physical machine I would have to go and manually tweak the settings on each machine to get it to shutdown in a specific order. They also have a vSphere Management Assistant. A little Linux VMware that you can spin up and setup. The option go through and ask for your vm host details, any dependant vm's, if your DC's are physical/virtual and if you would like it to shut down any physical windows systems (which you would then need to put in credentials to allow it to do this). The route I am currently looking at taking is that I am going to have to use a script regardless as we have SAN's that will need ssh commands to shut down, as well as connecting to Managed PDU's to power off some network equipment. Then use the VMA's to shutdown the VM's and the rest of the physical machines can have the software installed on them. Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions or have used this Riello software and might know of any pitfalls I may face going with this multiple approach method. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I'm after feature ideas for the next version of Shutdownertron, which is in development now. I plan to include: Split service and interface, for Vista compatibility and to allow immediate shutdown if nobody is logged in 'Second Chance' shutdown later on if the user aborted the first If there are others you want to see please post them and I will consider them. I'm keen to avoid bloat though, so don't be offended if they aren't in the release.

Some of you might remember I posted in a thread about shutdowns recently, hinting about an automatic tool for CC3 networks. Well here it is, finished and tested at Nobel. Network Shutdown 3 gives you the power to save energy, money and the environment by intelligently shutting down your RM network on a schedule. More efficient, less messy and faster than scripts, with a full GUI, safe list and logging. It automatically recognises your domain computers so there's no lists to maintain! You can download it from here: Network Shutdown at Paul Beesley I've made a real effort with this release to include thorough documentation so feedback on that is appreciated. I'm re-writing the AUP Informant and EduSweep documentation in the same format.
