June 2017 here. Seems to crop up a loot looking at the Ruckus forums. -
Ruckus wireless network is down - help!
SomeITBloke replied to JordanT91's topic in Wireless Networks
Dealing with exactly this issue this morning. ZD1200 with Power & Status stuck at green and no WiFi. Just finished converting the last of the APs to unleashed as a stop gap while arranging some Unifi kit to replace. You will find that the ZD1200 will be covered by warranty and RUCKUS will swap it out, if you want to stay with Ruckus... -

Would expect a helpdesk to be integrated with your current identity systems, such as Google, O365 or MIS

Copiers should always be purchased via gov framework.

Best interactive TVs nowadays?

Another vote for Viewsonic viewboards. 85" boards are around the £2,300 mark but in that quantity you would be able to go direct for some better pricing. -

Japanese city worker loses USB containing personal data of 500k people
SomeITBloke replied to elsiegee40's topic in IT News
Yes but this is the other issue that schools don't ever really think about, how it looks and reputation. If this was a school all anyone will take away is that all their pupil data was saved to a flash drive and lost. Even the fact that the drive was encrypted was left until the end of the article. -
Yes that makes sense. Our clubs are pre booked with a set membership time, but in your situation we could create a club(s), add all eligible pupils and then the register would just have who is there for that session.
-
We just use out MIS (Arbor) for clubs and activities.

Veeam here too. Good backup solutions may seem expensive when everything is running, but when you have to make use of them *cough ransomware* that cost will seem tiny.

Anything that has been used to identify the pupil. Legal forname, legal surname, known forname, known surname, initials, UPN and any other terms your setting may have used to identify the pupil as a starting point.

Chromebooks - deny personal accounts from school external IP.
SomeITBloke replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
Yes off hours is the setting you're looking for. You could then enforce school account only during school hours. -
Same as when Win 10 came, if your update polices allow it and your hardware is compatible , surprise. Meanwhile

Windows Local Profile & Mandatory profiles with Google MFA
SomeITBloke replied to timbo343's topic in Windows
I would avoid placing Chrome Profile on a network drive. While it did allow the data to roam, if a user leaves the machine signed in and then uses another machine, no Chrome. -
Replacement USB-C 45W chargers recommendations
SomeITBloke replied to dgsmith's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Went with the Samsung Travel Adapter EP-TA845 for our Chromebooks. Is basically the 45W charger Samsung include with their Chromebooks. They are compact with a replaceable USB-C cable. Much better than the giant bricks other manufactures still use. -
Currently Colour £0.019 Mono £0.0019 via CCS framework.

Feedback on Viewsonic Touchscreens
SomeITBloke replied to maxrebo's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
While more expensive, the screen specific units do screw in to the devices so curious fingers can't take a liking to them. -

Kitted out 2 schools with a mixture of 30 IFP730 / IFP6550 and the only issue is that one blew a PSU in the first month. I thought they would just send out an Engineer with a new PSU but completely swapped out the unit within a week. Compared them with BENQ / Proview and Newline and found them to offer the best pricing and best software solution. They are really good at sending out demo units. One thing I would say is make sure to add the wifi cards to any order ask me how I know! -

Speak to your DPO for advice, and then point the "alliance" their way when they say no. -
Are you down as the Arbor champion? When I migrated 3 schools these emails ended up going to the Business Managers at each school.

Is your copier provider still experiencing supply chain issues?
SomeITBloke replied to pete's topic in Hardware
Same issue here, ours are set to 20% before they order home and most times they have been drained before the replacement arrives. And echo the issues with keeping buffer stock. A while back we had a couple of spare sets to cover 5 copiers in case of delays and an engineer took the lot back! -

Well look like Kyocera have some more toner shortages. Now have 3 copiers (6053s) that all require mono toner and Kyocera are currently saying no stock available until 22/3 at the earliest! -

Google Classroom / shared drive question.
SomeITBloke replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
I would still go with Classroom. Create a class for the Senco, add the pupils. Senco just creates a simple assignment. Pupils can then just create a new doc from within the assignments and job done. Senco can see all their work from within the assignment.
