  1. I think @localzuk was suggesting he could give notice now and then have 4 months to implement the repalcement. Brave to cancel without a replacement though.
  2. Some cloud MIS providers already have join now start pay at the end of your current SIMS agreement. I can see these being extended to secure new long term customers.
  3. They are thinking of the health of all the SBMs who would otherwise be queuing to complain about their 3Y renewal policies.
  4. Yep suface SE starts at £190, same money can get you an ASUS 2in1 with touchscreen and rear facing camera. Also the SE come with a non standard charger, over USB-C, those wont be cheap to repalce when the lead get trapped in the charging trolley door. These are obviously targeted at O365 schools, so it's oranges and apples but as a pure hardware comparrison, pretty much the same spec as a £130 Chromebook but with a proprietary charger.
  5. I doubt conditional access will ever come to Workspace. All you are doing is making your users access less secure based on location. That pupil who finds that teachers password on a post it note. Maynot be able to access outside of school becasue 2FA but while at school......
  6. Sounds like typical ParentPay renewal practices. They do the same with Schoolcomms it seems. Have a school that was coming to the end of a 3Y term, school went to give the equivalent of 6m notice, only to be told that as the school recently purchased the payments module, messaging was automatically renewed for the same term! The fact they do this is hidden in the T&Cs. Awful practice!
  7. Just make use of managed bookmarks?
  8. You could do that, but we all know when child of said parent accesses something they shouldn't and they go to the local press with school provided device use to access... that piece of paper isn't going to help in the slightest. If a school is providing a device then it should be adequately safeguarded.
  9. Another thing to add is if you are away to change your contact details to someone you trust or a solicitor for example. Otherwise any correspondence will just go to the vacant address and you still won't know. You can also put a restriction on your title to stop HM Land Registry registering a sale or mortgage on your property unless a conveyancer or solicitor certifies the application was made by you. Although still no guarantee, as in this case fraudster tricked the solicitor into thinking he was the client after first obtaining a drivers licence direct from the DVLA, and utility bills.
  10. As someone who has just finished setting up Google > Adobe via SAML I thought it was just me missing something regarding assigning licences (Spark) In my mind it kind of defeats the object of syncing users if I then have to manually assign products either individually or csv. Workspace is our source of truth for all our users both pupil & staff so just want away to assign spark to all users who have synced.
  11. Echo Pauls comments. I have rolled out Chromebook Duet as classroom companion devices for staff over the summer. Feedback has been positive. Used mostly as portable visualisers and for photos, videos and 1:1 pupil support.
  12. Same as Paul here too. Our only Windows machines left are back office and aging staff laptops that won't be replaced when they die. None are new enough to be supported so will most like roll out as Windows machines are replaced over the next 12-18 months
  13. Morning all, strange one. I have an issue where some delegated email accounts won't open on a Chromebook, they just redirected to the add a new account setting. They work fine via Chrome on a Windows machine. Anyone else come across a similar issue?
  14. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/kb5005652-manage-new-point-and-print-default-driver-installation-behavior-cve-2021-34481-873642bf-2634-49c5-a23b-6d8e9a302872
  15. Valid point. Agree with @Ditto though the pandemic so many disadvantaged children missed out on remote learning to lack of devices from Gov and delays. The MAT should have been making sure these were up and running and if they school were unable to due to lack of knowledge (nothing wrong with that) they should have step in and provided that support.
  16. This has to be some kind of joke? The Chromebooks could have been deployed by anyone in school as long as the user had permissions to enrol devices. Unpack > Asset Tag > Enrol > Give to family. As for to difficult to be to be repurposed for class use, also rubbish. Yes you'll need some kind of storage / charging unit, but you would need that anyway if you were purchasing class devices. Over 100 Chromebooks sent out during lockdown and all of these are being repurposed for school use come September (no lockdown permitting)
  17. Made the move away from SB 18 months ago and can echo the comments of BrotherSidious above. Avoid if you can.
  18. Another vote here for IPEVO, in the process of rolling out IPEVO DO-CAM across 2 sites. Portable, USB, 4K, Auto Focus and work seamlessly with Chromebooks if you're using them.
  19. While I agree consumer grade TVs can work in schools, I have been using them in classrooms for a number of years now, be prepared for things like this.
  20. Yes, with "Unexpected error, We're currently experiencing stability issues, we're working as hard as possible to resolve them as soon as possible."
  21. Yes just checked my 1st Gen 300e Chromebook, no nvme slot.
  22. Had a couple of 1st Gen 500e and 300e with mainboard failure in the second year. Both times cost of a mainboard was more than the original cost of the unit! utter madness.
  23. Well seeing as the Lenovo Duet is currently available complete with Lenovo USI stylus and a CDL for £290, that iPad package still looks rather expensive.
  24. Have a school with Rucks and filtering by Exa with Dell 3180s having similar issues. Either no connection or forcing people over to gstatic
