Happy New Year everyone. Quick background information. The school I support has recently become part of a new MAT. Trust consists of 2 schools, MAT lead school and ours. Each school has its own LAN and Local SIMS server. Connectivity via Schools Broadband. Have just returned after the Christmas break to find out the Trust has created a central finance and personnel office at our site with new central staff. These central staff will need access to SIMS at each site. Everything else is either web based of G Suite so don't want to go the route of creating a single network at this stage for the 4 staff who need access. So any suggestions? Want to keep it as simple as possible. Thanks in advance.

Who to include in an Invitation to Tender for new MFD photocopiers

This is what frameworks are for. Submit your requirements via the likes of CCS, CPC, EPSO, YPO etc. -
Nope a real HB pencil.
-
Yeh this is true Never found anything decent for captive Chromebooks either.
-
I'm guessing that the HP ones are EMR. You would have been better off with the Lenovo 500e, or even the 300e that can use a HB pencil as a stylus!

Does anyone find Gmail non-responsive sometimes?

Yep have the same issue from time to time since the new UI. Like you said a refresh fixes it. -
Have just gone full 1:2 across Foundation to Year 6 after 2 years and no longer have any Windows machines for pupils. We have a 16 bay trolley in each class. Foundation devices are in Kiosk mode and Y1+ have their own account and staf make use of Google Classroom. The costs savings over Windows devices meant that we could increase pupil device by 50% whilst still making savings. Then there is the reduced management needs vs Windows which frees up time to support the T&L. In the same boat as you as the next logical step would be to replace staff laptops where possible but printing and MIS are the 2 biggest hurdles at the moment.

We use join.me here for exactly that situation.

You're not wrong, worst Latitudes I have ever used, E5540s not much better either and nowhere near as bomb proof as the old D Series, E6xxx however were like tanks.

I have done this by creating a Printmanager Admin account. Once you have the service account setup Cloud Print on your print server and setup using the service account. Then login to the Admin console as the service account the navigate to Chrome Management > Device Settings > Other > Cloud Print > Manage and then add the printers to the OU required. Printers will be available on those devices for all users.

Got some Lapsafe UnoCarts that need new homes - 3 16 Bay for 15" laptops and 2 for 30 netbook size machines. PM if you're interested.

It sounds like you are in a Primary environment. If you do go the Chromebook route for pupil devices then look at going completely G Suite for the children accounts long term. Will save you time, money and sanity in the long run. Have just removed the last pupil device from our Domain, only admin and staff laptops remain. Thanks to Chromebooks + G Suite have managed to increase pupil devices by 50% while saving 50% on equivalent Windows machine costs.

For those that have run Check ID 99 how do you know which records are affected? All I have is error description : ContactID,ContactName,.... but nothing specific. Does this mean no affected records? -
Looking at it from the wrong perspective. A portable interactive tablet, iPad, Chromebook, MS Surface device for the teacher means they are no longer tethered to the front of the screen. So much more flexibility for the teacher to engage with their pupils and enhance teaching. Spot the difference.

Android Tablet Management - GSuite MDM
SomeITBloke replied to ITGuyWestMidlands's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Not as Company Owned Devices no. I believe there are Android MDM features available within the new G Suite For Education Enterprise edition. Google have pretty much given up on Android tablets in education. ChromeOS tablets such as the new Acer are the way to go. -
What Interactive Touchscreens are people using?
SomeITBloke replied to CHSGM's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Plenty of commercial displayed designed to run as digital signage available. Consumer TV will still be running long after a projector has gone through a bulb or 2. -

Currently going the same route. Rather than 1 interactive screen have 2 TVs with Chromecasts. Still using Windows laptops at the moment but down the line these will be replaced with new style 2-1 Chromebooks. Will mean the Teacher isn't stuck at the front of the class. Much for flexibility and better for pupil engagement. -
Use will depend on the environment. Yes if you use a lot of Windows based software they they won't be for you, however if you make use of G Suite and look at web/cloud based alternatives to your Windows software then they become an even better proposition. The "hardware just made to browse the web" line is old hat now. You can get Chromebooks with M7 processors and 16GB Ram, Acers soon to be released Spin 13 will come with 8th Gen Intel CPUs. Well with the advent of Android apps Chromebooks can indeed do more than Chrome, they do have local storage and G Suite works offline.

Yep unless they supply the app via their management system the only option will be via the developer.
