Are ESS trying to make it harder to migrate away from to SIMS?
SomeITBloke replied to Ditto's topic in MIS Systems
They signpost users to make use of reporting to create exports of the data they require for migration lol Could it be that Wonde come to the rescue as they integrate with 3rd party MISs already and could facilitate transfer? -
Are ESS trying to make it harder to migrate away from to SIMS?
SomeITBloke replied to Ditto's topic in MIS Systems
In the early stages of migrating away from SIMs and the 3rd party support provider have said they will not support the school in their migration as it violates EES IPR! and the school should not share the backups as part of any migration either. -
Smoothwall Newbie Advice
SomeITBloke replied to SomeITBloke's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks for the replies so far. Any gotchas when upgrading a Smoothwall? -
Background: I am currently supporting a school ad-hoc with IT support while they are going through the process of joining our MAT and one of their biggest current issues is with internet performance. They currently have an etherway based connectivity and a Smoothwall appliance (HP Gen 9 Server) and this is my first experience with Smoothwall. Speed test results vary wildly. from 80/30 on the first run to 10/1 on a second for example, just not consistent. Also apparently, when using Google meet, it will just drop out after 12minutes, almost on queue. Looking at the admin console the Smoothwall swap file is maxing out 7.2GB / 8GB. Memory usage is around 4GB /16GB It is running Leeds 47 and an update available is version is 68! Any suggestion from the Smoothwall experts? Would updating to v68 cure these issues? Thanks in advance.

900/900 + SoGEA failover £2350pa for a primary. If you are a primary and you can get services such as City Fibre or BT Ultrafast, these will be a fraction of the cost of a leased line. Also if it's your first LL be prepared for possible ECCs.

Recently gone with some ASUS Chromebook Flip CR1 CR1100 in a primary setting. Supported until June 2031, 2-in-1 touchscreen, garaged stylus, world facing camera and 3Y Warranty for under £225 -
If you are using Google as your primary ID you could federate your gmail domain with your 365 tenant. I have had to to this so staff can use O365 on their Chromebooks to access resources that only work correctly in PowerPoint *cough*Whiterose*cough*

Having gone through the process of recently moving 3 schools from FTTC to some for of FTTP give yourself plenty of time to switch. School 1 could get City Fiber (900/900 £1,890pa) This was the quickest turnaround at around 3 months from placing the order to going live. School 2 couldn't get City Fiber but BT Ultrafast was available (900/115 £2,100pa) This took around 6 months from placing the order to going live. This was with containment already in place. School 3 had not containment available for any FTTP so had no choice other than a Leased line (200/1000 £4,000pa plus eye watering ECC's) This took the longest at 12 months from placing the order to going live. Also Openreach and their subcontractors are the worst. Either turn up middle of the school day unannounced with no DBS and expect to carry out work. If they somehow manage to give you a time, don't expect them turn up either.

Enabling the following flag fixes the issue chrome://flags/#use-sha1-server-handshakes It will reduce your browsers security though.

Yes started seeing this yesterday. Error in chrome but not in edge. Also to make it more confusing, on another machines works fine. Both identical, both fully patched.

Have a load of these that have been butchered for various parts. DM a photo of the lead and I'll see what I have it it helps.

As above, Chromebook spares can be a royal PITA to source. What's the model number of the CB?

Check ports 8080/tcp and 10001/udp open in the firewall/anti-virus software on your windows host.

If you feel there are real safeguarding issues with the IT setup then you should be making your DSL aware as a priority.

You can use GAM to bulk delete emails. Been a while since I have had to use this in anger but Via the Admin console do an email log search to obtain the MESSAGE ID to be recalled / deleted then run the following To delete from specific mailbox gam user delete messages query rfc822msgid: doit To delete from all mailboxes gam all users delete messages query rfc822msgid: doit Source

So using our office mailbox as an example. Created [email protected] Secured with complex password and MFA via a usb security key Signed in once Using GAM delegated this mailbox to required users gam user [email protected] delegate to Users then have to be signed in via their own account and can jump onto this mailbox via the account dropdown when in Gmail.
