Yes, of course. You can do this via a particular GPO. Says if you had a student GPO, which has the logon script to pull down the mapped drives etc. In User Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Software Restriction Policies. If you haven't already, create a policy (literally a couple of simple clicks, if i remember?). Then click Additional Rules. Right Click -> New Path Rule. Then, enter in a path (says you wanted to block them on the H drive, try H:\*.exe), make sure security level is "disallowed", click OK and head out of the gpo editor window. I hope that's right, lol!

I found Shutdownetron to be really simple to get running - very easy to manage via the ADM. Fantastic tool for nothing - grats to powdarrmonkey. So that's another vote for Shutdownetron if you get it working!

We use HTTP Commander Web file manager - web based file manager - HTTP Commander ::: FEATURES here. We are looking at moving to Fileway though (Remote File Access Solutions). Once @Soulfish get's an idea of pricing, we may look at trialing that. Although from what I gather you may want to set up a VLE though. Do you have a VLE at the mo?

Am I right in saying 3 have their own slimlined version of OWA? Maybe that's why - and the vodafone Nokia doesnt?. Have you got SSL open on your exchange box??!?! (port 443?) I don't have much knowledge of using smartphones like that (only my iPhone) so I may be wrong!

Or alternatively use something like Wininstall LE, take a snapshot of the machine, install WinVNC and custom your own settings and then finish the package. Might be good if you dont want to deploy Registry Settings in a script/logon script and just have it all in one MSI? Just a thought

A vote for the brother's here. Apart from the sometimes shortage of toners - they have been really reliable printers. (well, we dont have that particular model - but we do have quite a few Brother printers stacked around that never give us any grief!). The best color laserjets WERE the Tally Genicoms but sadly their out of business now

Hi mcloum, What are you using now? Why not ask them for 2k8? just out of pure interest. The way I would do it is personally I would firstly just set up the domain, installing AD etc etc. Then, I would set up an XP (or Vista, whatever your using) testbench/test VM and join this to the domain. I'd then create some Organisational Unit's where you can put computers in and apply Group Policy objects to. You can also set up extra OU's and have one for Y7, y8, Teachers etc. Group Policy Objects is what would really lock down your network. If you do not know much about GPOs, i'd search on here for Vanilla and see where other people in your situation have gone to. Can be a good idea - would cause less confusion. You shouldn't need two domains as you should be able to control everything using group policy objects linking to different OU's. By giving everyone particular quotas - you can do this in r2 very well - Manage disk quotas on Windows server : TechGuides : Windows Server : ZDNet Asia was always very useful to me. There are a lot of resources in GPO's - I brought a book personally but you can probably grab some content off the net. Do PM me if you want any more advice - sorry if this is mixed up/jumbled up - i'm not very good at explaining things. RH

It all depends what you want to do really. If you want to teach them HTML then I, like others, would reccomend using a program such as Notepad2 or Notepad++, or if you want them to do a combination, maybe use Dreamweaver (remember it cost's!), Frontpage (now expression studio if I recall?) or Kompozer. This sounds really good. Will be such an easier way for the use of SIMS across the board really. But with the new SOLUS solution (if I remember, will check my NMF notes) for the deployment of SIMS I don't see this coming out in the near future.
