That's not nice at all! Very disappointed At least the OS makes up for it, I suppose!

Congratulations, she's a cutie!

@ FN-GM thanks @ Michael - sorry, I should of been more clearer. ABE does do the job, but I want to hide the computers when a user browses to \\servername. All folder permissions are fine, thank god! Users can only access the shares they need to plus the share we install things on the network to. It's just things like seeing computers etc, but Computing Browsing Service is off in the services GPO and it's still happening. I'm slightly confused Thank you all for the replies - it's good we can rely on edugeek when we're in a bit of a pickle. Richard

Hi all thanks for your replies. I tried the Access Based Enumeration but that doesn't do the job Any other ideas?

Just one partition here for bog standard Windows Images - don't really need more than one for Windows. If we get any machines in prebuilt I usually remove all partitions and just merge it all into one and format.

I usually manage ours via VPN, but also have used logmein in the past for my work PC and servers.

Hi Little Miss - has he run the webcam setup wizard in messenger? does that detect the microphone? Richard

We have one kid, who has serverly got special needs, who has permission to bring in his laptop. We make him sign a slightly edited AUP with an extra cause about not connecting it to the network. He has tried to connect it once again, and, then, it was taken out of our hands and delt with by our LMT.

Our Year 11's left yesterday - took me back to 2 years ago! Not much havoc as our school are really good at controlling it (with teachers following their every move, and their kept outside until 10 to 9!!!)

I know people who have used Hostway MS exchange services before .. from what I have heard they seem pretty reasonable

FOG is awesome for what we need (I work with Soulfish above, btw). It had made our lives tremendously easier - we were using PBA before. I'm going on the WDS Workshop run by our LEA though, in July, so it would be good to compare the two.

I have stopped browsing from word hyperlinks too, btw. richard

:oHi all I know similar threads have been posted so I'm sorry if I sound repetitive. We have just moved our server's from Ranger to Vanilla. All very good, locked down most of the servers, redone all the permissions. Now, I have a problem. Where as in windows explorer a user will get denied when they try and visit a UNC path - in Word, in the Open Dialog box, they can type in \\servername and get the server. Now, i've tried turning off Computer browsing service, disabled all relevant gpos to do with network browsing (my network places etc) and double checked the permissions - but i'm not progressing anywhere! I haven't a clue how to stop kids going \\servername and stop browsing the network. I am at a loss. I have even tried an application policy in abtutor which doesn't work. I know the permissions are there but I would really prefer the kids not to have the opportunity to go hunting. Any help would really be appreciated, with reps awarded Thanks Richard

Our canteen are quite good ... has improved. We're on Scolarest down here .... I usually have the Pasta King (in a bowl though ... not a fan of those carboard tub type things some schools have!) with some delicious sauce (meatballs today!) and Cheese. Mmmmmmm!

It's a whole mixed bag here - all Teaching Staff (plus me and Soulfish) have laptops. A lot of rooms (over 60%) have desktop PCs in there too for use on the IWBs so the staff can use their laptop for work. On the other hand, some rooms do use their laptops as their pernament slave for their IWB and nothing else - through their choice or just because of the purchase of machines isn't at the right time.

How are you deploying it, through MSI's or a startup script with silent switches? Could try doing a script to silently install it, like suggested above, but deploy it on computer startup on this suite of PCs. Try gppupdate /force on each workstation? (or use specops to do the gpupdate?)

You could see if CDEC CDEC Limited - Your Education Specialists or Infacom come up to you. Our AP in charge of our dept was consdering using Infacom but we have used CDEC for our installations.

gah Why didn't I find this one before! I was battling with this last night and did a silent reg install in a batch file in the end. cheers! definetly saved.

Simple way of creating photo-slideshow-with-music
rh91uk replied to dhicks's topic in How do you do....it?
It's just the convinience for dragging a whole load of Photo's into an application and adding the music - a minute work rather than 10 mins work in powerpoint. -
Thanks for that wrightd, it's very interesting.
