You could set up a spreadsheet with all the email addresses in each column, then all the year6 email addresses in another column. You can then set up a mail merge email message, sending to the email address in field B1, printing, in the email, the email address in field c1. Hope this makes sense!

Wouldn't do any harm - it would make sure that the DNS records are up to date and could prevent any further dns problems in the future.

Could be that policies are failing to pull down on a particular machine, i'd check eventvwr and see where the policies are throwing errors - could be that particular policy. We had a similar problem which was to do with kerberos.

We were thinking exactly the same when we were setting up the media suite here in the summer last year. We brought lacie 500gb external hard drives so they were backed up to an external hard drive and there was enough space for the kids to do some decent video editing without transferring gigs of video files over the network.

From accessing the C drive, FN-GM is correct, youll find Windows Explorer in the Windows Componments section. If your talking about shares on the server which aren't meant to be accessible to students (such as admin shares) you need to look at the particular permissions on the share's and make sure no student groups, domain users etc are in there and only the groups that need to access that share are (e.g. adminstaff). hope that makes sense! My weapon of choice is either Ubuntu or CentOs. Ubuntu I usually use for my desktop, and usually centos for the servers. Cent runs fine on my 6 yr old old laptop (which I use for home network diag).

As suggested, if it was me I would look at upgrading the DCs to 2k8 before considering client OS. Then, when Windows 7 comes out, you can be fully prepared server wise for the move and the administration tasks.

I use a NAS Box (Netgear Storage Central) with a simple BAT file which backs up when I go to bed, then shut's my PC down at the end of the process.
