Thanks for the reply FN-GM, but unfortunatley that won't be poss ( i did think of doing it this way). LEA wont allow it as the box is hosted with them - and I'd prefer not to. Any other suggestions? Cheers.

Apologies I'm a slight exchange n00b so here is the second question of the day. We want to run two mail services side by side: RM easymail (for the kids because they know this service and they don't use e-mail the way we can warrant paying for CALS for students) and Exchange. We have this operating BUT all emails from exchange are currently being sent from @Staff.school.lea.sch.uk Is there any way I can mask their address to @school.lea.sch.uk - forwarding to staff. from Easymail - but still be apparant to anyone I send an e-mail to that my address is @school.lea.sch.uk. any help would be appreciated, ta

Of course - my fault. it was a bit stupid really. I didn't set the SMTP location (SMTP properties -> Advanced) to staff. hope that helps!

Hi all I'm having a slight problem ... I'm making the plunge to take the school I work for to Microsoft Exchange. The school is part of the LEA which provide our net connection, and obviously we need to open ports. I asked port 25 and 110, they didnt let me have 25 but let me have 110 (obv 25 is SMTP port). They set me up with their "Ironport spam filtering" service (their SMTP service). I have the POP3 working and recieving - but the SMTP doesn't send externally. Their tips are as follows: 1. SMTP feed to 10.22.64.3 for staff.(webaddress) has been set up. 2. Firewall access created to allow access from all addresses to 10.22.64.3 on port 110 (tcp) with public IP address (ip was here) 3. DNS records: staff.(web address) created to point towards (ip was here). Help would be appreciated many thanks!

We use Password Protection on our archives here (using Acronis True Image Server) - prevents unauthorised peekages! it;s great.

Hi all ... was wondering if you could help please I keep getting the attatched message on our vista laptops. I set the deafult resolution on the admin accnt, and when i log in as a teacher - first time I get this message (we are lniked to a projector for htis one). Is there anyway I can fix this (maybe through a GPO). We have resswitch on but that doesnt seem to fix it. Thanks in advance, Rich

@jobos - I definetly reccomend the Netgear WPN802 RangeMax, it has radius, and has such a far range its unbelivable, all of our AP's (the small few we have) are these.

We use Acronis True Image sometimes, but we more than usually use the Personal Backup Appliance and hack together some bootable Insert USB sticks which carry the pba client, rather than burning the ISO to cd. The Canned OS Project: Personal Backup Appliance Getting Started

We use ProDesktop - pretty nice & simple piece of software, but the diadvantage of having to log in as "administrator" to get all features fully working first time.

Hi all - firstly, I apologise that this is a long shot i was wondering if anyone could help me out...? I have a vista laptop on my domain at school. As probably usual, we have network wide start menu/desktop for the Staff group generally. But, on this vista laptop - it seems to be always constantly loosing its desktop asnd start menu. It's very intermittent! A log off/log on corrects the problem. I am thinking this is a problem with a possible bottleneck in our network (we have Network Diag people coming in Monday coinsidentely- something our LEA provides ) but I was wondering if, maybe there is a vista issue, or if any one knows a fix I can use for this? Hi there, Has anyone on the forums used 2 proxys in school? If so, how do you do it? We have the standard RM one provided by county - which is blanket for every user, but we'd like to add a second proxy that would over ride the RM one, but still use the RM as a filter. The reason is that we are looking at adding an extra proxy so teachers can still access youTube, but still are connected to the RM blocklists. Sorry to sound so vauge, thanks in advance. Rich

I can also definetly reccomend VMWare Server - I have it installed on my laptop with a Windows Server 2003 VM, running AD, to write some software for work

At my school we have a VMWare server running PBA (The Canned OS Project: Personal Backup Appliance Getting Started) which handles our backups - then for restoring we have a USB key running Insert Linux which runs the PBA client. We are also looking into running, and have a test box, running Amahi which we may use for backps, which runs with PBA - all on Fedora 8. This provides a manageable web interface - which is pretty nice but atm, we are using the above solution! so much easier, and time saver!
