Hi all, We're currently looking at deploying Windows 7 alongside Windows XP (with a full migration next easter or summer), firstly on our staff laptops. The issue is - we need to run it alongside XP profiles. Obviously, there are specific Windows 7 gpos we can set but we use roaming profiles. As you know, XP profiles don't work with Win7. Do you do what I want to do in your school? How do you do it? thanks, rh91uk

That realistically would work (the VPN way); or you can get your ISP to open port 80 and then add an A host record to your domain.

Want to move this insight manager related database file.

Check there isn't any running processes related to it, or there isn't a service? -
Hi all Currently using this guide Integrate Moodle, LDAP and SIMS.net - MoodleDocs. On the home stretch of implementing our VLE, and am just about to roll it out to staff. What I need to know is that from anyone who has used the above: how can I force the creation of classes/courses from SIMS.net? Would be greatful for any advice. The reason I need to do this is that I need to sort them into course categories (yuck!) thanks, Richard

Hi, thanks for your replies. Their Ricoh's. We can set the ID/Password/ValidAccessCode - but it gets wiped/doesn't retain it's settings.

Hi all, A weird one here ... all the people and local network managers I have talked to can't seem to figure this one out! Our admin staff frequently print to our two photocopiers in college. This is due to the high volume of printing that they do. They have to enter in an access code so their department gets charged - but, the thing is - that access code keeps not saving! Is there anything I should look out for in GPO regarding it? Thanks, rh91uk

Hi Just thought I'd share my experiences with CP! With my boss being off to mexico (lucky git) for the last 2 weeks, I have sometimes needed to order stock. Simon has come up trumps every tine. It's so good to know that hes either on the email, on the phone, or on MSN. He is happy to help - for instance, our school office asked me to source a digital answerphone (!!!!!) so I gave Si the challenge and he came up with the goods! Would definetly reccomend CP to anyone who is either new to this or has been in the game for the long time, and would definetly reccomend them to anyone I meet as a must use supplier. We've had Students look into one of our Databases for Student Information about their homelife etc (student profiles) and then when they didn't like what they had seen emailed their sons form tutor, critiscising our network security and that we had not set the right permissions on the account so they could get onto it from their account. Didn't like it when I emailed back, after checking the securus/logs (as they said they did it in the music room ... one of 2 computers potentially) that they had in fact not used their account but purposely used a teacher's account that had left their computer logged in, and accessed this Database (yes, no password on it ... NOT my choice ... I would have a pw on it) - then blamed it on us. They shut the criticism quite quickly when I politely emailed back with screenshots and logs - and got an apology. Teacher/Student in serious trouble... the SMT also quickly changed their mind about the screensaver lock I wanted to put on!

that worked! thanks so much.

sorry to bump ... any ideas anyone?
-
my admin machines hardly get reimaged ... only when there is a serious problem with them, the speed of them is unbearable, or we upgrade os or change a considerable amount of software.
-
excatly what I thought ... I didn't want to sound like a wally if I got it wrong!
-
sysprep doesnt image..... it simply prepares (I think!!) the image ready for deployment. do you use any imaging software to clone computers? fog? wds? then maybe we can advise a bit more....

Hi all, we use a mandatory profile here for the kids. At the moment, when i created the mandatory profile, i called the user "mand" (as it twas just a simple profile) ... but didnt realise/didnt think that when the initals/defualt name (please enter your name and initials etc..) to change it. Is there any way I can change this (an ini file/dat file) in the mandatory profile without having to recreate the mandatory profile. Sorry if this is the wrong forum ... too ta, thanks for your help

I place my mandatory profiles on a share called mandatoryprofiles$ on my shared areas server, same with roamingprofiles$ on the same server. Then on the other server are our work areas!

I'd also be interested in this aswell if this is possible, thanks.

Hi all Need to be careful what I say here for obvious reasons. We have some issues where some staff do not bring their laptop into work and basically use it for personal gain. I don't know if this is possible - but could we lock the laptop down (possibly by a script) where after a certain time (e.g. a month) it locks the laptop/makes it unusable/changes the password of a certain username when it hasn't been on our network? I don't know if this is possible so please shout if it's not! Thanks, rh91uk

I'd be up for it if it was down south - again Sussex London or Kent preferred.

Thanks for this! Solves the same problem we were having! We deployed this using a script and it seemed to work.

Like all of you, I can see a few late nights/early starts coming in order to get all the summer work finished!

Thanks for your reply Nath - did some further research into this and have fully set up the servers like you mentioned above.
