TBH, when I have setup something linux based, the help both on these projects websites and on here have helped me get them setup in half a day :-) I know there is a paid for Microsoft Gateway Type thing (I can't remember its proper name) but that will probably cost you a bit.

Hello All, Our DT department have come up with a plan to breathe some new life into our OLD 3D printer, we are going to do a 3D printing project with our Year 7 and 8s where they are going to use solidworks to construct cases for USB pens that can be printed. YAY!!!!!!! But here is the issue, we are looking for a supplier of just the USB pen circuit board (with USB connector mounted) that they can make as part of their project. but we need to get around 350 of them to cover both years. I have been asked to see if anyone is willing to sponsor the project to help, or know any good cheap suppliers in the UK that are willing to sell just the circuit board and no custom casing? Maybe @ICTDirect_Dave or @VeryPC would be interested Look forward to hearing from y'all!

We have trained people how to make discover groups for these target groups, well PP, FSM, Ethnicity, etc. And then we use User Defined Groups for Other ones which are not covered by discover, such as students targeted for each subject area. Then the members of staff responsible have been trained on how to extract this information, some use discover as they like pretty graphs, the other use Assessment manager, to which there is a sheet for each year group that people filter down user the group filter. These include attendance on them, but people still have to run a SIMS report for behaviour details, or go into student details there. I hope that helps

To All, There has been a really annoying issue where as the multiple file upload in fronter has been refusing to work on Mac running OS X Mavericks for ages. When I contacted Pearson Support they said they could not help as the multiple file uploads was a 3rd party program (annoying right) but I have found a solution to actually make it work 1) Launch Safari 2) Open Preferences 3) Click on the Security Tab 4) Click on the "Manage website settings..." button 5) Select "Java" 6) For fronter.com, use the dropdown list to select "Always allow" (this will prevent getting prompted every time) 7) Use the same dropdown list to select "Run in unsafe mode" 8) Click "Trust" on the following prompt. 9) Click Done

We brought a headset here for our Cisco 7961 phone at reception, they just refused to use it, so unless you have them on your side I would not even start to pay out, worse £100 I spent (and that was the cheapest)

We use Teachers Web Folder from Bromcom, Allow most staff to do what they need without using the VPN service. There is also a VPN service provided by our LEA internet connection, which is very reliable and staff can connect using Terminal Services to that, if they need full fat SIMS but the majority use TWF, and the PE staff like TWF as we have the mobile interface so they can do their registers in the middle of the field on their phones :-)

We have a new view on game sites here, and it is quite controversial. We don't block them when they find them, our SLT and even the head have said that it is a classroom management and behavioural procedure policy to stop students playing games. By not going around blocking every website that crops up we save technical time, and the students are no longer wasting time looking for new games sites. Some teachers found it hard at first, but it is now fully part of our Consequence system in school and gets treated the same as other classroom behaviour

Grrrrr finding the fine grades for year 10 in FFT live wouldn't be easy would it, I am also looking for documentation on the expected Attainment 8 for each average of the KS2 Fine Grades

Just waiting for my line manager to set me up with a FFT Live login, I have left FFT to him until now, as we never really used it for target setting etc.

Can't believed I missed this. Although I would need to go through the whole set of questions in my head to make sure the was not vendor specific. I would love to see a market where products specialise in different areas but could all talk to one and other seamlessly but it is sooooo hard with each school working differently.

Hello All, Thought I would give you all an update on my progress, I spent the day with the technical guide @normaldistribution posted and SIMS Assessment Manager in front of me, I have successfully got the Attainment 8 running and calculating correctly, but am awaiting some details from my line manager about the KS2 fine grades it shows and the expected progress from them. I have done as follows, Updated the gradeset for BTECs to have a 1P and 2P in there, to indicate whether a pass is level 1 or 2 (due to it being the new exams that decide that) Created a lookup table for GCSE and a separate for BTEC to change them to the respective Att8 measurements Created aspects labels A8 for each subject to use the LOOKUP formula to convert the grades On the marksheet template I have all the current grades hidden and the lookup to write the Att8 grades For English I have an = max column between english and english lit another english min that uses MAX with a number 2 value for the lesser grade there is a column that is NESTED IF ELSE for if there is an English Lit it enters a 2, if not it enters a 1 A column that multiplies the max english by the NESTED IF ELSE column. I have a Maths MULTIPLY by 2 Column for Maths I have EBacc aspects for A8 labelled 1 through 6 which in turn do a MAX lookup of all EBacc subjects for 1 - 6 Respectived I have 3 other columns which do a MAX for 1 - 3 of EBacc 4-6, the English min and all the others (we have no discounted subjects against one and other) There is an Att8 Total Column which adds the Multiplied English, Multiplied Maths, EBacc 1, 2 & 3 and the Other 1,2 & 3 together Then there is the Att8 Overall which uses the DIVISION formula and devices the total by 10 I have hidden all the subject grade aspects and the EBacc 4, 5 & 6 columns to avoid confusion. I am now awaiting the expected progress for the fine grades at KS2 they want to use and then I will have progress 8 from the Attainment 8 which can then be used for individual subjects and the overall for Grade Reports home :-) I hope this makes sense to you all and if you need any help feel free to ask as this did take me all day with some trial and error and rechecking. TLDR; Have got attainment 8 working, guide on how to do it in Assessment Manager

Struggling to get people take kodu as a viable option here (although I love playing with it) but on the top of Lego Mindstorms, the latest version allows you to do text based object programming in it, which can then be sent to the device, so may be good for the more 'advanced' students to play with. :-)

Hello All, From My Understanding from Summer 2015, the new value added data is going to be figured out by G to A* being 1 - 8 at GCSE level, but I am unsure what this would be for BTECs and how they are totalled up and figured out. I am trying to find some documentation or guidelines on how the process is meant to work, so that I can get SIMS to start working it out for our Grade Collections in the marksheets.
