Over these last 2 days I have done the following: -Broken the SSO link between myschool and Fronter so users can log directly into fronter -requested certificate to install on new moodle server -updated the school timetable and pushed it into sims -removed the 7 old HP MFPs ready to be collected now we have a nice KCS/Ricoh managed contract with better MFDs and newer safecom -run SIMS update in SOLUS 2. Updated intouch and discover -made sure the guys got all the reconditioned lenovos put in trolleys -looked into what laptop models are doing well this year ready for the yearly 170 laptops purchase for the new year 9 -did some last minute large format printing for display boards (best investment ever we did was the £3k hp large format printer for that) Now resting ready for Monday :-)

never had them beforehand, just wanted to minimise any risk of damage

We have 3 65" Toughened Glass screens from VII networks, and they are great, (although not the cheapest) they use the standard windows drivers and the screen quality is great, especially on the HDMI inputs. They do smaller and larger sizes.

Do you have roaming profiles, we have this happen here now and again, and you need to reset the profile on the server (and machine) and it then regenerates and works fine

ours has a denied access for students on the services file itself, access to MMC is disabled in the GPOs for them, and all the shortcuts in the administrative tools folder have been set to hidden, with students not being able to find hidden files :-) seems to work for us (not quite as extreme as disabling search but pretty thorough)

Yay new Season today, only just finished the Undine one and got to lvl 50 :-) and even better news, and open beta of a mac client, so I no longer have to run STO in a wine wrapper :-)

I think it always important users can always delete their unwanted documents and always shown how to do it. That does make a difference, also showing them how to cancel on the printer :-)

We have a full safecom Pull-Print solution here, and it works great, all staff get £25 on their cards at the beginning of the academic year, which we charge 5p for A4 colour and 2p for black and white, when they run out they have to ask their budget holder for more, this gets signed on an order form to me and the budget holder can ask for a report of the member of staff usage (we had someone use £25 in the first week of term, that was swiftly rectified by the budget hold and they now send work to our lovely repo dept) Safecom does stop them printing over so many copies as well, students get reset to £5 each month and only the GCSE photography students go over that and they just have to get their teacher to email for more. The pull-printing stops the print that ends up at one printer and gets left there because they meant to send it to the other printer 5 meters closer to them :-) Also I have just signed a contract with Ricoh to have all new devices which cost us 4p per colour side and 0.04p per mono, this with the lease (3 years operating so they take the MFDs back) and safecom has come up half the cost of what I am spending on consumables for our current 3 year old MFDs that we own.

That's very kind Luke, and I will add you to the growing list I have, as we are awaiting a response from the LEP about what their lines are, but I really do feel it would be better all equipment being here with our own team managing it and a good support contract (for piece of mind)

Hello All, In a bit of a tricky situation at the moment with a BSF legacy, at present we have a VOIP system (CISCO based) that has a router onsite with the ISDN-30 line in it, but all internal calls and voicemail are run through a central data centre (which controls all users, extensions, routing rules etc) but we have received a letter from the company that runs the support and the data centre saying that they will be withdrawing their services from the data centre and that alternative provisions will have to be made. Now I did look into this before and I know with the CISCO equipment we have, we would need additional hardware and licenses purchased again. Although it is our understanding that the LEP should be making sure we have a suitable phone system we are getting issues like this each year (they removed the ICT contractor and we had to make our own arrangements and the contractor was originally the ones subcontracted by another part of the partnership to run the VOIP) I am thinking about going to the LEP to get the money that would be spent and get our own system which we can manage and would not be reliant on a data centre. Does anyone have any views on where to take this, and also any recommendations of VOIP systems and suppliers (I did go out for quotes before in Jan 2012 but stuff changes) Thank you all in advance, BKGarry :-)

I got my Mummy a tablet for her birthday, just a Google Nexus 7" but she loves it, she has recently (in the past year) discovered facebook and the rest of the internet (much to my dismay) so the natural step up form the laptop was her to have one of these. She does love it, but took her a while (we even got a car mount for it and she uses it as a massive sat nav)

Yes, but it has been that way for years and years (before I joined here 6 years ago). There are no "Teacher workstations" all staff use their laptops and connect to boards/projectors, they all manage to cope fine (except for the occasional case of the team having to go and press the power button on sound)

Although the best bit of programming I have messed around with is M$ Kodu, much more fun then other stuff although it ain't no logo

So Learning how to use a word processor properly, be able to apply filters on a spread sheet and use a DTP program to make high quality posters without word art and stupid amounts of different fonts, this is a waste of time????? Don't get me wrong, although I have no interest in coding what so ever and know enough to get by, it should not replace the entirety of learning how to use a computer efficiently but should compliment and expand on what is already there.

Thanks, I will try that. I am not happy with the whole situation. I got a reply (in august) about a missing part on the order form. Sent it back with what the asked. Then nothing. :-(
