  1. I used to use SSL Explorer on a windows box before HAP came along. :-) TBH SSL Explorer was pretty much solid for remote access to internal files and home drives
  2. @CyberNerd Are you referring to the whole of Windows 8 as being a finished product through a comprehensive end user opinions on a whole before it was release, then yes :-) Sorry, I am still not Convinced by Win8 as a whole, but some bits are very good. And yes the Win8 AppStore is the biggest joke of them all ;-)
  3. That's the Win8 App Store is it not?
  4. I have recently gone with Bromcoms Teacher's Web Folder, the SIMS Direct version, we already used their MyChildAtSchool for parents to access student information and TWF was a good extension of that for staff, and the Teachers seem to love doing their registers on their smartphones.
  5. Thank you @Eappariello I like the idea of the coaches, I will be looking at what to launch step by step, as this will be used in conjunction with out VLE and to not replace it, at the moment.
  6. I would also say to look at your timetable, it sounds like you could have these setup as Non-teaching periods but have them there for arranging cover purposes (god know why it still doesn't pull the pastoral items for this like the timeline, both old and new, but I guess no change requests have been out in for that). I would say that is where it is coming from
  7. Hello All, I have recently been doing a lot of work on our online learning provision, and it has become very clear that one size does not fit all in our school, we use Fronter as our current VLE, which does work for our older students, it does not work very well for our project based learning subjects and our younger and lower abilit students. We have recently been upgraded from live@edu to office 365 for education (A2) plan, but am holding fire on sharepoint online at the moment. What I did do about 3 months ago is sign us up to My Big Campus, we can have SSO with our local AD as we have Lightspeed Rocket provided through our Internet service from our LEA. But I have failed to come up with a plan of launching it, from my research it seems great, and will compliment what is already there very well with it's "Facebook-like" look and feel and great resources already there, the issue is I am not sure what to introduce staff to first and get them using, with our VLE it was initially just a dumping ground for what was of our shared drive, but now it is being used a bit more effectively. The bit with the actual question below I was wondering what schools are using My Big Campus out there and how you launched it and got people excited. I am welcome to PMs and if you are willing I would like to come out and meet your staff and students on how they find it. Any points of view would be great on this, or whether you think I could be barking up the wrong tree. Thank you all in advance, Bkgarry
  8. I got to the end of the Klingon War and kinda stopped playing, I only had 1 friend on it and he stopped playing, I might have to start it up again on my MacBook Pro :-) will need to find out where I put my mouse though, as playing it with a trackpad was just plain awful.
  9. I have the Timetablers Cookbook which always references this Free trial : timetable software ... for timetabling school timetables ... for easier scheduling. not sure on the cost though
  10. I thought this was just me, but obviously I should have logged it as an issue as well, looks like we should be expecting a Nova Patch soon then :-)
  11. I'd log it with Capita/Your local support team now, and maybe get a traditional file restore from the backups.
  12. This happened to me, it turned out I hadn't upgraded my satelite install of nova and for some reason it was opening in there, but the automatic backups did work. I also made my own "Version" saves every hour or so, but I am paranoid.
  13. How about, just for the extra security, put in a completely dead internal IP address to the proxy settings for those accounts, so even though IE may appear (nastily and unpredictably) they will not be able to get onto the internet due to the "Proxy Server Being down" I think this is what I ended up doing before, while enforcing the classic start menu and disabling all desktop items. Exam accounts are a pig, but there is usually a way around it, even though you will have to constantly explain, yes it shows internet explorer, but they can access anything through it.
  14. Photostory? very simple and by default exports it all as a WMV. Download Microsoft Photo Story 3 for Windows XP from Official Microsoft Download Centre
  15. Thank you all, see good positive edugeek power, love it :-)
  16. Thank you so much @Eappariello for not handing it all over. I am always interested in the free training :-)
  17. From what I can see @mrbios it all looks quite self explanatory, but just want to make sure I don't miss anything. @marekbrad I have sent the request, but it may be tricky as it is through the LEA and not direct, but lets see
  18. Hello all, I have recently purchased Lightspeed's MDM from our LEA, they sent through a link to their website for the instruction manual, but guess what the link isn't dead, just nothing there on the page. Was wondering if anyone has a copy of the User Guide they could PM to me, I just wanted to read through it tonight to get my head around it all, before jumping in with it tomorrow. Thanks for ready
  19. ooooooo now that looks nice
  20. My LA support too :-)
  21. Thank you @vikpaw I only do 2 days worth for the restore on the laptop, our standard backup schedule does atleast 30 days worth of SQL backups for SIMs and then there are even more on archived tapes.
  22. @PhilNeal thank you for pointing it our before another place has a couple of usbs sitting in a draw at home. I should explain a lot more before clicking post.
  23. Sorry Meant to explain, these USBs contain 2 in our safe (1 to update which the other is in there) and 1 in our "safety" schools safe, sealed in an envelope with our headteachers signature
  24. Fully Encrypted laptop, very very cautious on this, there are also 3 encrypted USBs with reports of key info from SIMS in excel format for worse case scenario.
  25. Restores are done with DBattach, I have not recovered the batch file yet, as the laptop with it on is locked away in the Finance room and they are in meetings all day
