ah now that would be asking. usually \ (Instance usually SIMS2008) the database is 9 times out of 10 SIMS (you can double check these in connect.ini) the username and password needs to be your SA username and the password, if you do not have the SA password there was this thread about it http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/95661-nightmare-trying-log-dbattach.html#post832384 I do not know if they managed to get it working

Ah, we are lucky, our radios work in our new building. We do pay for a Managed service, but not directly through the LEP (icky BSF term) which means, myself as the reprisentative of the school and the onsite guys do have a good line of communication, and we come up with solutions. We also use a VOIP phone in the exam room on silent so that we can use that as a way of contacting as well. w

TBH, if something breaks on the ALAN tests, you have to hard reboot the machine, so that it starts again form the point it went wrong. Personally, I would not say you need a presence in the room, but what you could do is use school radios (if you have them) on their own channel and make it that if anything goes drastically wrong, you drop it and go straight to the tests. Also, we have the server side installed on a workstation with the test share being on a server share and it works fine with 45 clients running at any time. (haven't had to run anymore at once due to space restrictions) I hope this helps.

our Admin team want to be able to have a year calendar with the days absent marked on them, one for each member of staff. Either an actual calendar or something like the Student attendance reports. I think they are going to have to rely on pen and paper, I am trying to get them to look at the Weekday breakdown on your report. Thank you Craig Garry

Thank you @glennda I think our head wants them working sooner rather than later, even £200 a client is much cheaper than expanding our existing digital signage (Tripleplay) as the licenses and client devices are a crazt price.

Hello all, I need to figure out a bunch of client devices to run Xibo on 8 projectors within our school. I have got it all successfully running on an individual netbook, but would really like a cheap (around the £100 mark) nettop to mount behind the IWBs each projector goes to. does anyone have any suggestions or is there an even cheaper linux device, I know there is a linux client but couldn't find the install instructions, plus i need it to run powerpoint files nice and simply. Look forward to hearing from you all.

thw way we got around it here was not to use the autogenerated rooms, they are all closed, and connot be activated by teachers, this way teachers can create their own room and use the groups which would of been the timetabled room. Also, we have developed a room called the student launchpad, which opens up by default for all of our students instead of the Today page, it basically is organised in pages by year group, with internal links to the room that are needed/used, makes it easier for students to find them and not go into the wrong room. I know this isn't a solution but a workaround, but it does work

I stand corrected, my own ignorance has me here, I just prefer to manage like for like on OS's, well most of the time. I am all up for using free solutions over windows, as some of them seem to achieve this easier and better, FOG vs WDS for example. But I cannot see how you could justify the cost of the mac solution over windows or *nix?

I have one question, and one question only, how can the Mac Server dictate your windows "GPO" settings, the same as how can your Windows server dictate similar (Workgoup) settings for the macs? That should be simple enough, we use a mac server here to intergrate with Active Directory, Manage the applications and docks etc.

yup, there is one in Explorer for the desktop as well i think :-)

IIRC it is in the explorer settings and Start Menu settings in GPO, think it refers to them as local or common icons.
