Certainly can, fully granular down to site and user level. Hard to post without giving away data but yes its possible. However I found this "could" get messy with groups that are added if you do not add them to the list by hand, I have just set all mine to auto and to also accept new users and sites by default. I do also believe, if there is any repetition with jobs, say a user appears in 2 different jobs due to their role it will not store their data again, but de-duplicate it for space. Sadly the backup portal is one of things you cannot test with the online DSM virtualisation, even if you could I wouldn't want a global admin being used on a virtual appliance instance.

Hi, Been using a RS1221+ and 8 x 12TB drives with 2 Synology 400GB MVE cache drives (included in the deal) I have set aside 18TB of the array as a secondary VEEAM store and then left the rest for Active O365 backup. We have around 600 users, of which all use Cloud Drive Mapper so all data in O365 and Teams used quite a bit for assignments with OneNote. This has been in since Aug 21 and has ran faultlessly. Not really had to restore anything, just get 2 emails from a member for staff who had left in September. You get the option to configure your backups as you require. So I set all staff and students to be instant backups on their accounts, whilst setting shared sharepoint and teams as a nightly backup. Instant backup I have noticed tends to happen in 5 minute batches which is good enough for our requirements. i have also found it is account aware, so if a user leaves it locks down their account but still allows access according to your data retention. I find the platform good to use and means we are in control of our data, I wanted a NAS for storage of VEEAM backups anyway and just adding the bigger drives gave us this functionality. I would suggest having a good enough connection to support the traffic if going for continuous backup, thankfully on a 1gb line here so never is an issue. You can see orange warnings on the dashboard, this is an error that's bought up when a locked in use file is backed up, Its still backed up but just moans its open and in use so I ignore these.

Ahhh Ok, I have a 34 unit system running R750's, but on its own VLANS and across 8 different Aruba POE+ switches so slightly different. When we first setup however I had an issue with MESH being enabled. When our switches were negating POE requirements, the switches would cut the data stream to the AP's. When this happened the Ruckus would suddenly switch to mesh mode and create random and very annoying network loops. I ended up re-building our unleashed setup without meshing enabled and they have behaved since then. This issue would start with a reboot of the switch usually. In the mean time Aruba have just released a new firmware for their InstantON switches which has fixed this issue. Not used the uni-fi switches so cannot comment, but wonder if meshing is enabled on your setup

Hi, I was going to do a bit of a full review of Securly since I have had it running but not had chance as of yet. To put this into context I have gone from a centrally hosted Smoothwall solution. In a nutshell I am very impressed with Securly and how it has fitted into our environment. It is paired together with a 1GB Leased Line and a Barracuda managed firewall. Over Smoothwall instantly noticeable was the improvement in performance and reliability. Smoothwall was know for randomly not working with some sites, blocking bits and bobs and not always correctly picking up user credentials. I have implemented the SmartPAC solution for all of our domain connection devices, and then used their DNS on our main VLAN. I have used their guest DNS service on the the staff wireless VLAN which is great. The setup and configuration is very simple, It uses security groups from our Office365 solution, and you can prioritise groups for users with multiple memberships. I have only used their 4 standard filtering groups, Privileged for SLT and IT, Staff for all staff, Students and then default group. Default group works for devices that are not signed in and servers where I have not setup a PAC file for the devices. Regarding support there seems to be 3 different branches. UK Support team - Chris and his team respond to tickets logged in the UK, usually respond with a few hours and is mainly for non urgent issues. Any issues you do get with a site or browsing, you can submit a HAR file from either Edge or Chrome and that allows them to trace where the issue may be occurring. Any faults found that need a fix applying are usually done in a few days by the US team. Remote Session - You can book remote sessions between 30 mins and and hour with the US team of experts to look more at your setup or get guidance on how the get the most out of the system. I have used this twice, appointments usually start at 2pm due to time difference but they have been great. Look at what you want to achieve and show you how and what securly can do to support that. Telephone support. - Not used this yet as been no need to, but advised to use if you have an outage or urgent issue. Overall I have been very impressed with the support when needed. Once setup it has been almost fit and forget, the solution just works and speeds reported by users are very fast and I have had no complaints. I am sure I am not using all of its features fully and maybe would expand it one day. As a replacement for Smoothwall I would recommend it every step of the way and support have always been prompt and supportive along the way.

Hi Yes, well not fixing the issue. I did the two following things. - Educated staff on using the Windows + P button to re-enable projection - Fitted most of our machines with HDMI powered splitters The powered splitters has basically taken away the option. Further investigation it basically was caused by Powerpoint from what I could see, especially when coming in and out of presenter mode. It was always worse when a user would open powerpoint and then lock the pc for lunch or break. When they come back it would always mess around and force display to screen 1 only. I also updated from Office 2016 to Office 2019 but this was the same time as the HDMI splitters were fitted.

As we all journey on this wonderful world of cloud computing and mapping of drives to Office365 I have hit a problem where is little if any reference to it online, When my users are saving documents into their mapped drives, they will get a pop-up in the saving window, attached below. Anyone seen this before?

Hi No worries, since my last reply splashtop have made changes to their IP range in Europe. If you contact their support and ask for their latest IP they will be able to send you the list. I have since moved filtering to Securly and it is no longer an issue for us.

TBH Securly comes with a bundle included with the connection so I didnt investigate senso for filtering. Firewall/router will be a baracuda device.

Been using SENSO now for 2 years and just about to switch from Smoothwall to Securly, From what I can see they fit nicely together especially with SENSO being able to directly communicate with our safeguarding software CPOMS. But have to ditto about the tools in SENSO, been a god send during lockdown and remote learning and IT tasks,

Ruckus R550's ordered in May/June been advised Nov/Dec21. Synology RS1221 ordered May due, well no one knows 2 x Gigabyte S2D servers with SSD using AMD EPYC Rome 7302P CPU ordered and built in 2 weeks. Aruba 5406R core plenty of stock. 5 x Aruba Instant on 1930 24Port POE+ Switches (what a farse that is, one of the slowest switches I have used) Next day Smart 75Inch Interactive panel, Possibly Oct but maybe into 2022 I finally had a chat to a HP account manager, looking at builds of school spec laptops, Core i3, SSD, 8GB with Full HD Screens he said he wouldn't be surprised if they are not seen until 2023, If I wanted no HD screens there would be a steady supply. All a bit messy at the moment, luckily our core build and servers could all go ahead but now having to drag that last bit of life out of our Meru 1550 controller and AP's. Luckily we are in contract until OCT and I see Meru controllers on 'The Bay' for around £50 if anything goes wrong.

Hi Pete, My experience with SMHW. We had it back in 2015 and it really made a change to parental engagement with homework at the time. When GDPR was introduced that were the best supplier I dealt with by far, their policies were on the ball and we have a personal consultation with one of their team to document and go through all data coming from our site to them, and what they did with it. At the start of the Pandemic we relied heavily on SMHW, they were very quick to make changes to their site and help implement remote learning as well as ramp up their capacity to deal with the sudden surge in demand. Whilst this was going on internally we increased pace on our Teams deployment as we felt it could better support the remote learning. By October last year we had transitioned into TEAMS and pupils were successfully using it from home and on site. Decision was made to fully move all remote learning and homework function to Teams now that staff and students were using it successfully. We have no ceased using SMHW as Teams ticks all of its boxes and more for us. I would say SMHW has the following strengths. - Seating Plan addon, very good and helps teachers with new classes and also support SEN seating plans. - Parental engagement, parents had their own app which could be used for multiple students - Does what it says on the tin, we used O365 authentication for Staff and Students. Costs had increased quite a bit recently and our move to teams is a positive move, not that SMHW wasn't any good but times are changing and I feel it may lose its market share slowly.

Very similar situation to yourself, number of staff and students and moving from Smoothwall and just chosen Securly. I felt during the demo's it would be able to adapt to a changing environment if the powers that be suddenly decided to flood the school with BYOD and mobile devices. As with any filter there are pro's and con's but they seemed to be the best fit for us. It will be teamed up with a 1gbps/1gbps fibre connection so hoping the cloud based filter can cope with any surges in traffic. I didnt take the monitoring features of Securly as we are already using SENSO and all of its modules.

Thanks for advice and tips. Hopefully these will not be much of an issue for us, We have just signed up for the system as part of our new connection so when its ready in August I will be able to have a look. At the moment we block YouTube for students anyway, apart from in computing lessons when we have Senso on for the IT teachers who monitor their screen activity like hawks and senso does a great job of logging everything. Its obviously an evolving product and lets hope they listen to their end users

I have had nothing but trouble using Splashtop with Smoothwall myself, have to constantly re-connect due to blocking of IP's This is caused they them using a huge pool of random IP's in europe. I have however had an email from them this week stating. "Hello. Dan​ We are moving to a solution to use fixed IPs so you don't have to update your IP lists any more, but it will take a few months. In the meantime, we have reserved a larger pool of IP addresses this time around - our intent is that this list will tide us over until we're ready to move to the fixed IP solution. Thanks Paul, we are O365 here and use their AD sync into Azure. Not sure our current licencing allows write back into AD but I know it wouldn't support user groups and file share creation. However I am also looking at Iamcloud to move our home drives into O365 anyway by mapping onedrive, which could do away with the requirements for AD file shares.

Morning all, I am moving over to Bromcom from SIMS over the coming months. Looks a great package especially with its O365 integration, has to be better than that awful SIMSID. However one function I will loose which is lifeline for me is my ability to create AD accounts automatically based on information from SIMS. I use Burconix user manager, which is brilliant for SIMS user, start of new term deletion of old staff and students and creation of new is done in 2 minutes. It creates the logins, set's up security groups as well as Home Drive file shares. Burconix do not support Bromcom so wondering if Bromcom has support for this, or does anyone else use any user management tools. Thanks,

Thanks Andy. Yeah the 832e's are brilliant AP's really been impressed with them and their longevity. Do you use any specific suppliers for Fortinet equipment?

Hi Andy, Yes, I do still purchase the Fortinet support contract to include the controller and wasn't sure if they would cover one that old. I changed our system a few years back from single channel to more of a layered approach, each floor has its own channel as do outside buildings and it seems to work really well. Do you still use any of the old Meru AP's?

Morning, Wonder if anyone has had any experience of moving a Meru controller over to Fortinet controller. I have a Meru system from 2014 which "touch wood" still works well. Using 25 AP832e's which were at the time the bee's knee's they still seem to be able to cope with increased usage and newer devices. Obviously with a controller that is now 6/7 years old I want to replace this, add some more AP's especially externally and keep using the existing AP's. I have had to replace 2 of the Meru devices with Fortinet AP's due to insurance claims and they plugged in and worked faultlessly which gives me faith in the fortinet system. I did also look at replacing the whole system, but as usual budget is tight and I have a new core switching system to buy as well. Any advice/tips?
