Right, I thought this issue was fixed, I downloaded the Flash Uninstaller and reinstalled all the latest versions. However, I still get messages on YouTube, BBC iPlayer etc saying I dont have Flash installed when it clearly is! Any ideas? The issue is affecting only Firefox but not IE7 anymore. I have downloaded Flash for Firefox soooo many times it's getting silly!

I do live near and luckily I wasn't affected at home, but at school, yes, we only just got back online today! All the local residents lost all phone and internet access from Saturday - Thursday! Reports are saying more than 75,000 homes and businesses were affected! Plus, the traffic lights went haywire on Saturday! The traffic on the A406 was complete madness because TfL couldn't control the lights to meet the traffic conditions. You should see what Thames Water have done to the area! The state of the roads are terrible. Temp traffic lights everywhere, congestion mayhem, all the way till April 2010!

Some Facts (Not Rumours) Required Regarding RM, Northgate and Redstone
Zoom7000 replied to Richie1972's topic in BSF
As far as I'm aware it's just rumours. BSF has been a very touchy subject and lots of rumours have flown around. I'm not aware of the Hackney situation, but I was told by previous TUPEd employees that it isn't in the bidders interest to make redundancies. In most cases the local technical staff are the most important asset if they are looking for a successful managed service provision. Like I said, I can't speak for other bidders, but as I have been told on many occasions, RM have not got rid of any TUPEd staff. -
Some Facts (Not Rumours) Required Regarding RM, Northgate and Redstone
Zoom7000 replied to Richie1972's topic in BSF
Hi Richie, I'm due to be TUPEd over to RM on Monday. So I will do my best to answer your questions based on my experiences. Contrary to popular belief, the process has been very smooth. RM have been very helpful and even though I had union backing, there was very little worry through the majority of the process. Don't get me wrong I went through some of the very same worries that you are experiencing right now, just see some of my previous posts. I was definately not a happy bunny at the beginning of the process. However, I'm already experiencing that we are getting more support than I have in the whole 4.5 years I've been at school and considering I wasn't even employed by RM yet, this is pretty decent of them. All I've gotta say is don't believe all the rumours. It's not as bad as it sounds and you'll probably find that it benefits you both personally and professionally. If you wanna know anymore, feel free to drop me a PM. -
I've been given "Customer Support Engineer within the Services Divsion at RM Education" My signature will be ammended to read "RM Customer Support Engineer"

Anyone? Had this again last night!

I've noticed a weird problem on my home PC lately. It seems everytime I want to play a Flash Video movie, YouTube, iPlayer etc. The webpage tells me I need to reinstall Flash. I've noticed this in both FF3.0.7 and IE7. It installs fine and then plays, but it needs to be reinstalled again everyday! Any ideas what could be causing this? EDIT: Seems to be everyday, as opposed to every restart of the browser.

Yes, many, many times!

Are the students running roaming or mandatory profiles? If they are roaming then there could be a conflict between the redirected Start Menu and the one stored in the user profile.

No, I never managed to get it working either! Adobe's Flash and Shockwave can be really weird at times!

What's interesting is I just fired up a Terminal and the prompt that I get is: imac50:~ ladmin$ ladmin being the username of course. (Localadmin) Yet when I run the "sudo scutil --get LocalHostName" command it replies with "clean-imac" So, the iMac itself is getting it's name wrong. Presumably the --set command with just change the "clean-imac" part of it. Is there anyway I can force it to forget it is "imac50"? What baffles me is that I have re-imaged it at least twice calling it "clean-imac" both times. So why and where is it remembering "imac50" from? The iMac appears in our DNS as "clean-imac" and is listed in AD also as "clean-imac". Yet, Apple Remote Desktop sees the Bonjour name as "clean-imac" and the DNS name as "imac50"!

Right, thanks for your help AntonioRocco. I have run the commands. A few questions: "sudo reboot -h now" didn't work so I removed the "-h" I wasn't sure how to rename the iMac so I did this from "System Preference > Sharing" I have binded the iMac back in to AD and verified the edu.mit.Kerberos file. I'm not entirely sure how to do the next bit. We have a Mac OS X Server for deploying policies to the Mac workstations. I have no idea what MCX is. Sorry I am a total Mac n00b and haven't had any training so I'm just trying to trod along. Also, I have noticed that the affected iMac is having problems with it's name. Despite the fact that I called it "clean-imac" after rebuilding it numerous times, it is still appearing in Apple Remote Desktop as imac50 (an older name) but reporting the DNS name as "clean-imac". Is there anyway to force it to remove all references to its older name of "imac50" ARGH! Macs are driving me nuts!

Free 1GB Memory Sticks for Teachers & School Staff
Zoom7000 replied to jamin100's topic in General Chat
So anyone know what happened to these? I walked past a memory stick dressed person at BETT who had no idea about a delay and told me they already had begun sending them out but still wanted me to sign up anyway! Perhaps it's time to send an email out to Andrew Castle @ [email protected] Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me the beginning of 2009 is January/February, March is pushing it, but we're nearly at April! -
I have checked the "Directory Utility" and it is added in to both our Open Directory and Active Directory, as with all the other iMacs on the Network. When I try to add the computer in manually I get the following message: I get this every time I try to add it in even after rebuilding it with different names.
-
We've just brought a new 24" iMac and I cannot get it to appear in Workgroup Manager. Hence it won't pick up our custom "policies". I built it using a prebuilt image we had in DeployStudio however as it didn't work, I have since rebuilt it from scratch using the Mac OS X Disk yet I still can't get the iMac to be discovered in Workgroup Manager. I know that Bonjour is working fine because it get discovered by Apple Remote Desktop. Any ideas as to what I can do to get it to pick up the "policies"? (Is policies even the correct word when it comes to Macs?)

We're using DeployStudio (1.0rc11 - 090113) to create our Mac OSX Images. We've just purchased a Mac for creating our images and set up dual booting with XP using Boot Camp. However, DeployStudio will only allow me to create images for the Mac partition and not Windows. Is there anyway to create XP images (or a combined Mac and XP image, would be more preferable) using DeployStudio?

How did you manage to give users access to their home area using OWA? Has anyone here used Live@Edu yet?

Yeah I did notice that one, but I was looking for a specific freeware app. that provides free support and updates. After all Page Plus 5 is rather ancient now.

A kid came round today telling me the Head of ICT said she could have a copy of Publisher to install at home! Honestly, does copyright not mean anything to teachers? Anyway, it was the first time I had a request for Publisher. Usually it is for Office and I point them to OpenOffice. However, it diesn't reakky come with a DTP application. There is Draw, but it can't open .pub files. So, does anyone know of any Free DTP software that will support .pub documents?

We are running two 10.*.*.* networks at our school: 10.193.*.* - Main Network for PCs, Printers, Server, the lot! 10.0.0.* - Separate Network for Backup purposes only. We have turned off all DNS listening and registering on our DNS servers (Window Server 2003) for the 10.0.0.* network adapters. However, the OS X Server is still registering it's 10.0.0.* and it's causing issues with DeployStudio. Is there anyway I can tell the Mac Server to stop registering that particular adapter address in DNS? Off Topic - Woo Hoo! 400!
