We have always had a annoying 2 domain setup on our site and we are finally getting round to migrating all the data to 1 domain and dropping the left over. I'm using the opportunity to rebuild all the PCs using RIS and putting them on to the new domain during the unattended install. Now, even though I gave the RIS user account I was using rights to "Join a computer to the domain" using delegate control on the "new" domain, it still won't add the PC to the domain. Not sure why, so I've had to try something else... I've setup RIS on the "new" domain, however, when I try to rebuild the PCs, they are not remembering their names as the GUID/UUID information is located on the "old" RIS Sever or "old" AD (not sure where!) Is there anyway I can migrate this GUID/UUID information from the "old" domain to the "new" domain, so it saves me having to manually rename 600+ PCs! Is the data held in a database file somewhere? (Both domains are running Windows Server 2003 btw)

Anyone have any clues? This is really doing my head in now!

It does recognise the HDD because I see the setup actually format the HDD before it gives the error. It then manually offers to edit partition stuff, but still fails. It doesn't work on any PC, even on my VM. I have never had to install any mass storage drivers before. How would I get mass storage drivers for my VM anyway? Also, my older image still works and that doesn't have any mass storage drivers. I have tried copying the drivers from that image in to this new image and it still fails.

I have always created RIS images using a modified unattended Windows XP CD method found over at MSFN. Basically, I copy an XP CD on to my PC, use nLite to integrate drivers, updates, applications etc. Insert the RIS files (and Answer file) in the I386 folder, copy to RIS server and away you go! It's always worked no problems and my current out of date image also works fine. However, when I tried to create a new image using the same method I've done for years, it formats the hard drive and then gives me an error saying setup cannot format this partition. Yet, if I create an unattended CD/DVD out of the same source (having removed the RIS files and replace with WINNT.sif) it works fine! In addition to the mayhem I have copied a vanilla XP image, no integration of nothing at all except network card drivers for my VM and it gives the exact same problem! Any ideas what could be going on here?

What does this mean for the BETT Show? Wasn't this also a BECTA run thing? Not sure...?

I've got Windows 7 installed on my MacBook Pro on a BootCamp partition. VMware Fusion allows you to use the BootCamp partition to run in a virtual machine. However, when I booted it up, it was asking to be activated. I knew for sure I had already done this, so I booted up in to BootCamp and it was definitely activated. However, when booting up in the VM, it was not activated. I don't want to fall foul of Microsoft, trying to double activate what is essentially the same installation. Would I be able to run the BootCamp Windows or do you need 2 separate licenses to run in BootCamp and run the same install in a VM?

Funnily enough, I already have a cheap Hauppauge DVB-T Tuner and a Freecom DVB-T USB Tuner, but both (and most computer TV Tuners) fail to clearly show subtitles on them. There is either a really bad lag or the subtitles are displayed in a squashed and unreadable resolution. And the displaying of clear subtitles is a must for us. Might have a look at the Argos one. Looks good! Is the remote nice and responsive?

I'm looking to bring down any unnecessary costs I have per month. When I moved home, I was locked into a BT/Be and Virgin contract. I pay £11.99/month for Virgin, £11.54 for BT and £17.88 for Be. I prefer broadband from Be, as I am a heavy user and don't want to be throttled by Virgin, in addition to their completely useless technical support! So, anyway, now that I'm not locked to their phone line, I'm gonna cancel this week hopefully. The thing is though, I am left without the set top box. (Free M package TV with the phone line) I'm fine with the Freeview channels as we don't have the time (or money!) to catch much else. So, what is the best Freeview box I can buy for less than £20. I don't want to spend too much on a box right now, as sometime next year I would like to buy a new LCD TV/Monitor for my PC with DVB built in, to replace my current Acer Ferrari Monitor which is on the way out, but I have to keep it going for as long as possible for lack of finances! So, what's the best I can get for < £20? Just want a nice decent and simple menu system with EPG (7 day would be nice, but not vital) and subtitles is a MUST!

We have had an influx of new HP Ultra Slim Desktop PCs lately. DC7600s, 7700, 7800, 7900 and 8000 and I can't see an option on any of them in the BIOS to Wake on Lan (WOL). Is there anyway we can set these PCs to (WOL) if they have been shut down overnight?

Can someone please point me to this Adobe Customisation Tool?

Sorry for the n00b question, but if I use a FM Transmitter, can other people not tune in to the same frequencies? And does the FM Transmitter cut out if I receive a phone call? Don't want that going out over FM!

I have an iPhone 3GS and drive a Toyota Avensis S (2000). It comes with a stock Toyota CD Player. No MP3s or anything fancy. Just bog standard CDs. Is there anyway I can play my iPhone through the car stereo? Ideally I just want to be able to play the MP3s. Making and receiving phone calls would be a bonus, but I want a cheap and cheerful solution so just the MP3s through the speakers would be fine. Any ideas what would be the easiest and cheapest way to do this?

With that new Play.com thingy, do you still have to sit through the fuzzy patterned screens and wait for the loading times? If not, then it just ain't the same! lol! Oh, btw, Paperboy and Way of the Exploding Fist Rule!

I'm an iTunes n00b. Never really was interested until I got an iPhone, but now I have, I'm joining the crew. I'm not much of a music person, but I love my podcasts and I have several setup in iTunes. A friend very kindly sent me his back catalogue of podcasts that I missed out on for a show I listen to and the podcasts are no longer available for download from the BBC. My question is, can I import these podcasts into iTunes and get them in the chronological order like all my current podcasts? If so, can someone please point me in the correct direction.

Hopefully they will replace it with Sharepoint!

Back in the day, when I was still a kid, late 80s, I lived with my folks in a council house in North London. We had an older woman living upstairs who was very friendly and very good to my parents. She would come and spend time with us nearly everyday and was generally a very nice person. In 1989 we moved away and lost contact with her. However, I do remember going to visit her in what turned out to be a care home in Harrow in the early 1990s. This was the last time I ever saw her. Recently my dad gave me his contacts diary to move his contacts to an electronic medium and I noticed he still had her last known details. I decided to give the care home a call and ask for her. I was told there was no one of that name living there. I asked if they would have records of her possibly from the early 1990s and they put me through to the supervisor who said she had been there for 20 years and never come across anyone of that name. I know for a fact though that we had visited her at the care home. So, what I would like to know is whether there is anyway I can track her down? I have to admit it is unlikely that she may still be alive. She was very old and I think I remember her and my mum once talking about cancer, not sure if she was suffering from it. Trouble is, other than her name and 2 addresses, the last known place (care home) and the old council house, I have no other details about her. So, where can I start? Would I be able to track her down? Or find out what happened to her?

I've started to update a few PCs to ActivInspire, however, I've noticed that it creates (.flipchart) files, as opposed to (.flp) like ActivStudio. Is it possible to open (.flipchart) files in ActivStudio for those PCs that haven't yet been updated?

I went yesterday and got mine from the stand. They were apologetic and blamed the unexpected demand. Nice 4Gb drive though. Will offer the resources to some of the teachers at work and then full format!

It'll be funny visiting this year and when anyone at the RM stand tries to scan my badge I'll tell 'em to bugger off. If they wanna send me an email, look me up on the internal address book! I hope I'm still eligible for the freebies! Other than that and pizza's at 12.15 (yummy!) it'll just be meets and greets with sales and account contacts. Will try to back off on some of the useless freebies because they only end up lying around or break my back and shoulder carrying them on the day!
