Thank you mate. That worked. No idea why it was doing that even on a fresh install of XenCenter, but oh well. Working now!

I'm pretty sure the VM has storage. It's a brand new created VM and the XenServer isn't actually running anything at the moment as I wiped away any older VMs we had on it for testing. If worst comes to worst, I can just rebuild the XenServer from scratch but I'd rather fix the problem in case the issue reappears when there are VMs in use. I've had a look at the host console on it does say the VM is running. So it seems there isn't a problem with the VM but with XenCenter.

My desk PC is a custom build running Windows 7 - Doesn't work on there. I've tried from a VM running on VMware Workstation on my custom build - Doesn't work there either. Tried on a HP Ultra Slim PC and a HP Convertible Minitower - Same result. (The Ultra Slim was running 5.5) and also tried it on a HP Server (Can't remember the model number) but it doesn't work on there either. Tried different ISOs (Volume Licensing from Microsoft and Technet ISO) also tried booting from Network. vt-x is enabled on all PCs. Also haven't pooled any servers.

We're running a XenServer 5.6 FP1 and I've not had any problems with it till now. I created a VM and was trying to install Windows on it, but had to blow it away and start again. I rebooted the VM and now I just cannot view the VM in the XenCenter console window! I just see a blank window: Any ideas what could be causing this? I've installed XenCenter on 3 different PCs/Servers (XP, 7 and 2003) and all are giving the same error. Rebooted the XenServer and the client PCs, deleted the VM and recreated from scratch, all with no luck!

A staff member brought her laptop in with an unusual problem that I have never come across. It randomly plays audio adverts in the background at random intervals and sometimes plays them for a few seconds up to a minute or so in length. I've had a look in Task Manager and there are 2 unexplained processes for IEXPLORE.EXE running. Everytime I manually close them, they start up again. I have run a full MSE scan, a full MRT scan and a full Malwarebytes scan and everything has shown up as clean with no infections. MSCONFIG is looking fine and nothing in the Startup folder or Scheduled Tasks. Any ideas how to remove these annoying ads?

VLC Media Player is easy enough to deploy. I can launch a silent installation using the command "vlc-1.1.7-win32.exe" /S What I would like to know is whether or not there is a way to deploy custom preferences with the install. Some annoyances are the prompt that comes up at first launch, "Allow media display art..." or something along those lines and the "Check for Updates" prompt. So, does anyone know if there is a way to set your own custom preferences?

Yeah... I did see that... And to think I ordered 2 of each item because my brother wants a new system too. Looks like I'll be putting OcUKs RMA to the test. To be honest, there shouldn't be much of an issue as it is an official flaw. Just looks like the fun will have to play for a bit and the life support on the Pentium 4 will have to stay on for a little longer! (I do miss the Pentium name!)

Hehe! Well, yeah. I've never had a PC that was powerful enough to manage it, and considering how much money I'm putting in to it, I wanna get the most out of it as possible! I'm fed up of being at the lower end of the PC scale! lol!

JHeaton - Thanks for that. I think, looking at the amount I am spending, I don't want to go any less than the i7 and also, as nice as an SSD would be, I think it's more prudent for what I need to get a standard SATA drive as opposed to an expensive SSD. Is the 1155 the way to go now as opposed to the 1366? Is this what Intel will be using for the newer CPUs? (To try and stay as future proof as possible!) The GPU sounds good, but I think I'll look to a different manufacturer as Gainward have been poor for me on many occasions in the past. glennda - Thanks for the spec. I do feel it's more of a budget spec as I'd rather get a more powerful solution by making a higher initial outlay as it is unlikely I will be upgrading again for another 5 years+! I would also like to look in to the opportunity of some overclocking and the ASRock Mobo is unlikely to provide much room for manouvere there. Also, that graphics card will be likely to struggle with some of the new and upcoming games. Arthur - No, I don't need 2 DVD drives. I was just mentioning that I didn't really need to look at optical drives if the new mobo will support it. SYNACK - Thanks for the info! Luke_T - Bad experiences with AMD's mean I will probably stick with Intel, but seeing as it's been sooooo long since I upgraded, I will go as high as I can spec wise within my budget! My PC (P4 3.2GHz, 2Gb DDR1 - over 5 years old!) has finally started to kick the bucket so, I think I'm gonna need a new one and pretty soon! It's been long enough now so I'm looking for a decent enough rig that can handle the latest games, but I will also be doing a lot of work and virtualisation (VMware Workstation) on there too. I haven't kept up with what's the latest, 1366, 1155, 1156? X58, P55, H67, SandyBridge? It's all new to me! I've already got a Corsair 620w PSU, so I can salvage that from my old PC and I am inclined towards getting the Antec P183 case as it's nice looking case and reasonably silent seeing as it will be sitting in my living room (also acting as a Media Centre!) I have a WinTV HVR-1300 which I will salvage from the old PC too. Budget wise, I'd ideally like to remain at the lower side of £800, but I may push towards an absolute maximum of £1000. Also, I need to buy a reasonably minimal computer desk that will accommodate a case like the Antec P183. Things I don't need: Monitor (Got a Samsung SM2333HD) Keyboard Mouse Speakers I have 2 DVD-RW drives, both are IDE. Windows 7 (Have a freebie from Microsoft that I have yet to use!) Could someone please very kindly spec me something nice? Any help is very much appreciated!

At our school, all the registrations have been moved online registration with SIMS.net. However, the obvious problem here is the PE department who don't have access to PCs during their lessons. Does anyone know of a possible remote/electronic registration system that can work on something like a tablet or iPad by either by the teacher or biometrically by the kids finger prints, but must have SIMS integration.

I need to buy a decent ADSL Modem Router for a friend. Custom Firmware support like DD-WRT would be nice but this is not too necessary as it is for a novice user. However, it must be compatible with the TalkTalk ISP. I'd prefer a Linksys router, but will settle for anything else better, but it has to support 802.11n Any recommendations?

Huge credit to Dos_Box for all the freebies he offered at the EduGeek stand. Lanyards, Pizza, Drinks, Water, Mugs, Caps, Stickers, Pens and more! By far the best freebies in the show as far as I was concerned. Quite a few companies from stands that I've visited regularly in the past didn't show this year. Still shocked that Apple didn't turn up and the freebie offerings from the big boys, Microsoft etc were rather blah! Budget cuts were very noticeable! Once again, big up to Dos_Box for making the EduGeek stand the coolest stand at the show!

Good point. But with the budget reading zero and the prospect of additional finances unlikely, I don't think we can afford to look at alternative RAID solutions and will kinda have to work with what we've got!

In our current setup we have about 40 iMacs bound to an OD and our AD. We bind them to AD for login credential passing and to OD for Workgroup Manager settings and other bits and bobs including DeployStudio. We recently had an issue where our Xserve had a hard disk failure. To keep everyone going I had a OSX Server VM running on my desk iMac not doing much. So, I set up everything on there and had to rebind the iMacs on to the new OD server for everyone to work again. Once we got the Xserve working again, we had to rebind the iMacs back to the Xserve. To avoid the same situation happening again, I'd like to have 2 OSX Servers controlling our Open Directory "Domain" in case 1 or the other goes down, but not have to rebind all the iMacs from one OD server to the next. So I'd like to know if there is a way to bind the iMacs to the OD "Domain" as opposed to a single OD server.

I can't understand how anyone can say it is a scam. How have you been scammed? Fair enough, they took your details, couldn't send you the stick, but you can get it yourself (for free) and a better one at that (4Gb instead of 2Gb). What is the scam in that?

I had the same issue where I'd get the "Domain not responding" error. I tried both Ephelyon's and Apple's script (separately) and both worked a treat.

I'm trying to setup a new image of Snow Leopard (10.6.4) and have run in to a very annoying issue. I have set up a "policy" (can you call them policies on Macs? ) in Workgroup Manager to manage the users dock so that it only displays the following icons: Safari Word Excel Powerpoint Applications Folder However, when I log on to the iMac as a user, it still shows all the default icons (iChat, Mail, iCal etc) even though I have unticked the "Merge with user's Dock" option. I have followed a guide here on how to create a default user template, however, everytime I log in with a new user, it still picks up all the defaults. Any ideas?

Any idea how I can write the script? Or somewhere I can download one?
