You only need to mess with the fix if you use iPhoneBrowser or iFunbox. I use neither, but applied the fix anyway. Took near 10 seconds, and I'm an iPhone n00b! If you're on 3.1, I don't see why you shouldn't update 3.1.2. As far as I'm aware, you need to update to 3.1.2 to be able to run blackra1n. Not tried though, but if you are on 3.1, an unlock obviously doesn't bother you, so, if you are gonna jailbreak, go for it is what I say!

Well, it's been out for a week now and there isn't yet a thread for it. So, for those who don't know yet, the latest firmware for the iPhone 3.1.2 has been jailbroken. Geohot has released the tool you need called blackra1n. It is the easiest jailbreak ever apparently. I say apparently, because it's the first one I've ever done! Shut down iTunes, connect up your iPhone, run blackra1n and hit the big button that says "Make it ra1n" and about 30 seconds later your iPhone is jailbroken! This will change your baseband and you will not be able to use your phone with your non O2 sim! blackra1n also doesn't activate. Once you have jailbroken, when you run blackra1n, do not install Cydia, Rock and Icy together! I noticed issues with Winterboard and other programs when installing all 3 together. Install each separately. I rebooted after each install. blackra1n does not add the afc2 service with the jailbreak causing issues with some tools. There is a handy guide here telling you how you can add this to the phone. Once all that is done, you can finally unleash the true beast of a phone that Apple has so wrongly kept tamed!

Yes, unfortunately my 3GS came with 3.1 out of the box. Would it be worth updating it to 3.1.2 seeing as there isn't currently a Jailbreak for my phone at all?

Any ideas when the jailbreak will be available for out of the box 3.1? Or seeing as 3.1.2 was released yesterday, perhaps they'll just do 3.1.2? Waiting ever so impatiently!

We have just set up and installed 45 laptops for use with our new Trapeze Wireless Managed System. However, we were having intermittent troubles with the connection dropping. We found that the Intel Wireless Adapter had a setting in device manager called "Power Management" that allowed the device to be turned off to save power! As soon as we disabled this, the laptop no longer dropped out. Is there a way I can deploy a "fix" using a registry tweak to make a long annoying job a not so long annoying job?

Right, I installed WiFi HD, however, all that allows me to do is store the file. When I click on the PDF file, nothing happens. So, it appears as though you can store, but not use! Any other alternatives? I certainly hope iPhone Dev Team can get the Jailbreak for 3.1 sorted soon!

I'm starting to realise what people meant by the phone being restrictive compared to the Hero (or even a Symbian). So first and foremost, no mp3 ringtones, you gotta convert them. Simply everything has to be done via iTunes, unless you jailbreak or pay for the apps needed to do what most phones can do for free! In this case leading on to my next question, transfering none music or photo files to the phone. Specifically, a pdf or doc file. I want to transfer a 30Mb pdf file to the phone. Google searches mainly say the way to get the file to the phone is to download it as an attachment from email, except you can't attach 30Mb files to most email clients. All the available tools cost on the app store and I can't jailbreak yet cause I'm on 3.1. So any ideas how I can get this file on to my phone? I got 32Gb to kill but can hardly transfer anything to the damn phone! I just typed this from the iPhone, damn it took long! lol!

So, I finally got my iPhone 3GS yesterday. (32Gb - Black). Now I am a total iPhone n00b and coming from a hardcore Nokia and Symbian background, it's gonna take some used to getting around iPhone OS. Also, please bare with me if some of these questions have been asked before. I was never interested in the iPhone because it was well out of my price range until recently. I had wished I kept an interest now! First things first. Profiles. On Nokia phones you can have different ringing profiles (General, Meeting, Outdoor, etc) Can I get a similar effect on the iPhone. I know it has the silent and ringing switch on the side, but I'd like different profiles if possible. Following on from that, ringtones, I understand that I probably have to sync these via iTunes. Do they have to be in a specific format, or will it accept MP3, WAV etc. Can I also set different tones for text messages, email messages, video calls etc. Jailbreaking - First and foremost, does it void the warranty? (O2/Apple) Also, can I actually jailbreak. My phone came preinstalled with the latest update (3.1) and is there currently anyway to jailbreak it. If so, can someone please tell me how. I've heard of ultrasn0w, yellowsn0w, redsn0w etc, but don't know what does what. Any help is much appreciated. I'm sure I'll have loads more questions as time goes on!

Well, I've been off work since the 2nd week of term now because my wife's waters broke 5 weeks early. After a torrid week of scares and rushing to and from hospital, I am delighted to announce that my wife finally gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on Monday morning. She arrived 4 weeks ahead of schedule and weighed in at 4.8lbs. Both mother and baby are resting in hospital for a few days whilst the docs monitor the baby's growth. Hopefully they should be discharged today if all is OK! 27 years old and now father of 2, getting old too fast!

So, after months and months of researching, I've finally come down to the following 2 phones to upgrade to. Either the HTC Hero or the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3GS (16Gb) I can get for free on O2 with a £32/month contract (Staff Discount!) - However, it's a 24 month contract! (Damn Apple and O2!) The best deal I've seen for the HTC Hero, is here because if I got the Hero, I really want the white version which seems to be damn near impossible to find anywhere in the UK on non cashback deals! That's the contracts sorted, now the performance. Even though the Hero (and Android) looks really promising, I've seen too much on YouTube and other review sites about it's speed issues in comparison to the iPhone 3GS. I know HTC have said a firmware update is imminent but is it really what it's cut out to be? Or should I let O2 tie me up in to a 24 month contract and jump on the iPhone bandwagon?

Is there anyway to restore a single GPO in Active Directory? I've accidentally made some changes without realising and I didn't backup the single GPO beforehand. Can it be restored from the tape backup?

That looks like a Server 2008 screenshot. I don't think these settings exist in Server 2003 GPO which we are running here.

Basically, I want to achieve more advanced configurations when deploying RIS images to PCs. I.e. Logging the PC on automatically at the end of the RIS process to clean up files left from the installation of addon packs, driverpacks and installing Network based applications. Now, seeing as the PCs sit in classrooms and we might want to rebuild PC's during term time, I don't want the kids getting to PC's with a domain admin account whilst a PC might be rebuilding. At the moment we simply RIS the PCs and then manually cleanup and install network based applications. However, if I could automate this with scripts and automatic logons, but disable the kids from being able to tamper with the PC by disabling the keyboard and mouse whilst it is working, it would be very useful and save a lot of time! These are the basic steps I take to create a RIS image: Copy Windows XP CD Contents to Hard Drive Use nLite to integrate latest updates and application addon packages downloaded from MSFN.org, Wincert.net and RyanVM.net Integrate drivers Apply patches and tweaks Then integrate the necessary RIS files, answer file etc. Upload to RIS server So, once a PC is built, it is already fully up to date and includes all the necessary applications (Office, CD Burners and other Educational and Academic Software) so there is no need to run updates or installations after the build process has completed. However, what I want to be able to do with disabling the keyboard and mouse is use utilities like DriverPacks (driverpacks.net) and install applications that require domain network access. This can only be done once the PC is able to log in to the domain.
