We're running Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 (SP2) and was wondering if anyone has managed to get Windows XP x64 images working with RIS? How can you get the RIS server to recognise the x64 image? When I put the RISTNDRD.sif file in the AMD64 folder it doesn't recognise the image and when I put it in the i386 folder it complains it can't find txtsetup.sif.

Yup, we're snowed in too here in East London. My schools been closed. I wouldn't have been able to get in anyway. I just stepped outside and my feet completely disappeared in the blanket. My daughter is loving it!

The Toshiba Qosmio F50-10z is a laptop, so I can't really perform any hardware diagnostics. I did reinstall the OS a few times actually. Started off with Toshiba preinstalled Home Premium (x86) and I successfully burned the 2 restore DVDs that Toshiba's applications prompt you to. I then upgraded to Vista Ultimate (x64) because the Home Premium (x86) was pointless because it has 4Gb RAM. Started having problems burning disks. Tried loads of disks, no luck, sent off for repair. As soon as it come back from repair (replaced DVD drive) I installed Windows 7. I didn't get round to trying to burn a disk before reinstalling Vista (x64). Again, tried burning after install, no luck. Finally spent all weekend doing a clean reinstall of Vista again and this time installed all of Toshiba's crap that I was trying to stay away from. (Software and other bits and pieces downloaded from thier website) However, it seems to have done the trick. I just managed to burn a Vista iso. I'll burn a few more disks tomorrow and see how it fairs. Looks like I may have been missing a driver or something. I also noticed a firmware update they have only just released a few days ago for my DVD drive, so I updated that too. It's all a bit funny really, I ordered 2 of these laptops, both from Toshiba direct, both at the same time, same order, 1 for me and 1 for the NM and albeit they are identical machines, they have different DVD drives. Mine is a Pioneer (as mentioned above). NM's is a HL-DT-ST GSA-T50N. Just tried burning a Dual Layer disk on NM's laptop today and had no problems at all.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio F50-10z running Windows Vista Ultimate x64. No matter what I do, I can't successfully burn a DVD. I'm using ImgBurn and it gets a random percentage through the burn process and then the write speed goes down to 0 and nothing happens. I can't even quit ImgBurn, it just sits there and keeps trying and I have to force out of it. I tried CDBurnerXP but that won't work on Vista x64 with certain drives (the author confirmed this at the official forum). I tried loads of DVDs and got coasters everytime. So, I sent it off for repair and they replaced the Drive for me. However, it is still doing the same thing! The drive is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVRTD08A ATA. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Are you sure? I deploy Office 2007 to our office and a few other locations and I certainly find it's easier to deploy than Office 2003. Infact, updates are even easier! We are using Office 2003 here. We've had Software Assurance upgrades for 3/4 of our licenses for Office 2007 since before it came out. However, I doubt we will be performing this upgrade anytime soon because the Head of IT says it will mean they'll have to change all their worksheets and that the kids won't know how to use it! Little does he know, that almost all the kids here have it pirated at home and some even have portable Office 2007 apps on their pen drives! I just think he's too scared of the ribbon!

Are you using the public beta, technet build (same thing, I think) or are you a Connect tester?

Is anyone else having problems trying to send feedback to Microsoft? I'm trying to log on using my Windows Live ID and keep getting the following error: Is anyone else having a similar issue? I have tried a few different Live IDs, my Technet Subscriber ID and still no luck. Do they want us to submit feedback or not?

I know it is possible to automatically power on VMs when you boot up the host system in VMware Server 2.0. However, is this possible in VMware Workstation? I have 2 VMs running, but they do not power on automatically when I boot the host PC up. Can someone tell me if this possible using VMware Workstation 6.5?

Following from this thread I finally brought myself a chair. The Roma Superior Chair from Viking Direct. Which I got at £69.99 but they've put it up to £119.99 Anyway, the school have agreed to get me a decent orthopaedic chair for my back. I'd prefer it was a leather type computer chair with a high back so I can rest my head as well to ease my aching neck too! So, does anyone have any recommendations?

I did post a review of it here. However, after prolonged usage my views have changed on the device after using some competitive products. I also wrote the review at a time when they didn't supply BDA drivers. So you were forced to use the bundled WDM software. I have since been using it along side a Hauppauge device. Hauppauge being the kings when it comes to TV Tuners. But, I've found that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Some of the irritations that I found on the Freecom, I also noticed on the Hauppauge. For example: Subtitles - There is a very annoying lag when you try to use subtitles, almost to the extent where the subtitles are displayed after the person has finished speaking and started saying something else. Live TV is another matter, but this shouldn't affect recorded TV. It is simply an error of how the software pulls the subtitles from the DVB feed. Recording - A little better with the Hauppauge, but with the Freecom it is impossible to adjust the quality of recording. So, an hours recording can take almost 1.5-2Gb of HDD space. Teletext - I found this was pretty useless and unusable on both products. Slow and it launches on a separate window/process. Scanning - With the Freecom Software, when scanning for channels, if you decide to do a rescan, it sometimes duplicates the channels already in your list so that you get 2 or more listings of the same channel. On the other hand, if the channels are not broadcasting, it doesn't pick them up at all, and sometimes deletes them from the list! I've had issues with BBC3, BBC4, ITV4 and CITV, CBBC, CBeebies. As these channels don't broadcast at the same time they get deleted from the listings whenever I do a scan depending on the time of day. Hauppauge have pretty much solved this with their software now because they allow for the automatic DVB numbering. The software issues aren't as bad with the Freecom device now as they support BDA drivers so you can download your own software. However, I had had issues getting the programs to work with the stick, but others have had success. Some programs I have tried were, Media Portal, GB-PVR and a Cyberlink Power[something] that I forgot the name of. However, I found far too many bugs with getting these to work with the Freecom device. The Remote Control with the Freecom device is utterly useless and not worth the plastic it's made out of. The range it works at is almost like next to each other. Most of the better Hauppauge products come with a very good standard sized remote with proper TV features. The Freecom device has it's pros and cons. If you are looking for a simple entry level "I just wanna watch TV device" go for the Freecom (it should be sub £20 now - I brought it at £40) If you want more features and services with your device, better support and especially if you are using Vista x64, go for a Hauppauge device.

As far as I'm aware I've created all the exceptions that I need to. But still ain't having any luck.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I'll try here anyway! I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and everytime I try to use BBC iPlayer, it loads for like 2 seconds simply crashes the whole browser. I've tried in Firefox, IE7 and Chrome and no luck in any of them. However, the minute I close down Kaspersky, it works completely fine. Anyone know of a particular setting that I may have missed out on that is conflicting?
