I've just had a copy of an e-mail from another school which said they believed that it is acceptable to create a folder to which students can copy their website and run it from the folder. Any 'maintenance' being done by copying the updated files to that folder. We'll go with that, it's less hassle than webservers!

It was in the spec that the teachers gave us. I'd have to check for sure but I assume it is an extract from the exam spec provided by the exam board.

Just had a teacher through the door talking about IT BTECs. Apparently one of the requirements is for students to: Create a multipage website Upload and maintain it It's not clear whether by upload it means we'd have to create a webserver with space for each student as you would for a professional website. Or could we let them save the website in a folder and run the website from there with maintenance simply being updating the files in the folder. Any experiences with the BTECs and what they mean?

Are they OK? We need to replace a couple of old HPs (4250 and 4100). How do they compare? Can someone give me a price, please

We seem to be getting a number of problems with our older printers. They are the good old HP workhorses; 4100 4200 and 4250. I'd be interested in which printers are recommended to replace them. We don't want colour.

We have two separate CCTV systems. One is wholly digital covering computer rooms. It uses 16 Axis cameras and a server with Milestone software. I find it really good, very intuitive and flexible. The other is a 'premises' system which is analogue and has both external and internal cameras some of which are RTZ. It's by Digital Micros. It's cumbersome and getting recordings from it is a long-winded affair. It does have a browser interface but it's 'fragile' and unreliable - it will drop out for no apparent reason. Of the two I'd much rather have the Milestone IP system. The software handles a wide range of cameras - external and internal. I've not seen any significant impact on network traffic, but I have the frame rate reduced to 2 a second on most of the cameras - it's fine for most needs. Storage is important if you want to keep recordings for any length of time. I had a demo of an new IP camera from Net-Cntrl. The camera is made by Mobotix. It can record a full 360 but then zoom in to any part of that image to pick out any incidents - not cheap, but I hope to squeeze one out of the budget this year. Don't forget that if you do go down the CCTV route, as has already been mentioned, you must have signs around the site, and in other threads the very important point of the need for a CCTV policy. If you don't have one you could find that any images you submit for evidence in court might be declared in-admissable.

I'm using Tiddlywiki to document all our technical procedures. It's easy to use in it's basic form, but can be developed to be quite a sophicated system. There is now a server side version suitable for Websites. TiddlyWeb

Smoothwall safe image search

Good stuff - it works fine for Google, but using AltaVista images if you put in something dodgy like "w-t p-ssy", it displays a page without any thumbnails, but it offers the following: Attention: The Family Filter has detected adult content See adult content by changing your settings. See results without adult content At the moment we have change settings blocked by the County filtering system, so that option doesn't work. However contrary to the name i.e. 'See results without adult content', clicking it allows all the adult stuff through. Has anyone seen this and is there a way to manage it in the Smoothwall system? -

Hi Tom - my box is in a similar state - should I be doing something? -
We've got one of these and it's incredibly noisy, making screeching noises even when it's just moving the picker to get a new tape. If you've got one is it noisy?

I've been 'playing' with Kompozer, it seems fine for editing etc. However, I'm used to Macromedia where you setup local and remote sites. You work on the local site and then upload/publish to the active server. Is there a way in Kompozer you can import an existing website and setup the local/remote concept?

DMcCoy: As you were - after right clicking everything in sight I found the unlock under the Quantum 2 Device. I've got my tape back now - thought I'd need a hammer and chisel. Thanks for the help.

DaveP: Do you have any items [at all] sitting on top of your tape library? Sadly Dave, no, it's in a rack well clear of everything. Thanks anyway. DMcCoy: I assume you have done a right click -> unlock library on it in backup exec? I have to unlock mine each week after backup exec locks it after the export. Thanks for the post - where exactly in BE are you right-clicking? I'm looking in Media in BE and I have the tapes in a Media Set called Friday. There's no library that I can see and there's no right click/unlock on the media set or tape!

Don't want to hijack the thread, but it seems a logical place to ask for help with a related issue. I use a Quantum with 12.5 and each Friday I run a full backup to a single tape which I remove and stored elsewhere. We had a power failure over the weekend (no the UPS's couldn't keep it all going for long enough) so I ran the Friday full backup last night. Now when I try to move the tape from the slot to the mailslot I get "CAN'T COMPLETE MOVE: System Lock, Chk Bkup SW Cfg". I've checked the job logs and nothing seems to be wrong. I've even run an Inventory which completed OK. Any ideas?

Thanks Steve for your earlier replies to Grant. Grant works with me and I've been trying to get V 6.3 working with thin clients. I have an issue where: 1. I installed tutor on my PC setting the connection password 2. Ran up ABT 3. Set a Administrator password (different to the connection one) 5. Closed ABT then re-opened without putting in a password i.e. as a Tutor 6. Tried to connect to clients and they failed with 10061 errors 7. Closed ABT re-opened as Administrator 8. I can connect to the clients OK Does this ring any bells with you or have you any ideas on what may be wrong? Thanks
