Is there also a new server OS release too?

Right, firstly I apologise for the total n00b question (Yes, I am a n00b when it comes to Macs!) is Snow Leopard a free update using Apple Software Update? Or do we have to purchase it as a new OS from Apple? If so, does anyone know the Apple Education pricing for it? Is it worth the upgrade? Are there many new features that would benefit us? Man, I feel lost when it comes to Macs in comparison to Windows!

It seems all the decent deals are only on the HTC Hero Graphite. So, I might just jump on to simplicity until something decent pops up on the HTC Hero White.

Does anyone know of any Android Community websites? I just wanna get a feel for what's available out there.

Also, is online community support (3rd party developement) good for the above 2?

Wife already has that. If I'm gonna get a full touch screen, I would rather have a capacitive (like the iPhone) than a resistive (like the 5800) however, I might consider the N97, but again it's the price and the bugs!

It's a nice phone, but I'd like something with a nice big screen for easy Internet browsing.

I'm due an upgrade on my mobile phone contract in 2 days time. I'm currently on O2 and my tariff is as follows: 600 mins 500 texts Unlimited Web Bolt On (200Mb/Month FUP) £25/month for the duration of the contract (£35/month normally) Now, reading up on other forums, including O2's own forum. It is not a good time to be on O2. Apparently they have been so royally done over by Apple that they can't offer anyone good deals at all. I personally know at least 2 people who have left because O2 aren't even honouring current deals. This doesn't bode well for my current deal. Add to the fact that I want a nice new phone as my N82 is starting to play up. I was initially hoping for an N97, but think it might not be the right time for it with the software problems and also the poor resistive touch screen. The iPhone 3GS will be way out of my budget. So, I'm either looking at the Nokia E71 or I'm starting to get more inclined towards the Blackberry Bold. The best deal I've seen so far is on 3: 500 mins Unlimited texts £30/month (18 Month Contract) Any opinions on what I should go for? Should I go for the Nokia N97/E71 or Blackberry? Or should I look elsewhere?

I was listening on the radio about some of the failings of Gordon Brown's Labour government and they kept mentioning the scrapping of the 10p rate of income tax. Even when the whole malarkey was going on I didn't know what the "10p rate of income tax" was. Can someone please explain! What is it? How are people affected? And would it affect me on a salary of about £25k/year? If so, how?

Yup, just found it. It's actually called vSphere now. Just for information, I couldn't get it to work under Windows 7. Came up with an error relating to proxy or something. Will type the error from work tomorrow.

So, I've just managed to finish the ESXi 4.0 install after getting passed the initial problems. So, what next? I've got to the main screen and configured the server. But, it say to download the tools and you can manage it remotely by connecting to it's IP address. But what tools do I need to download? How can I get started and actually create VMs?

We've just purchased a DC7900 to run as a VMware ESXi Server to run 3 Virtual Machines. I had to run a tweak on it to get it to install because it couldn't see the HDDs (VMware Communities: Installing ESXi on whiteboxes? Were your sata disks not detected? Try) Managed to get it to install, however, it won't pick up an IP Address. It is set to 0.0.0.0 and I can't seem to see anyway to fix it. Can anyone help? EDIT: Downloaded ESXi 4.0 and it worked. Was using 3.5 before.

Thanks mate. I just created a Test OU and it worked. I'll try it out on the main students! One thing I added to the above was "%AllUsersProfile%\Desktop\" so that they can run shortcuts from All Users Desktop.

I tried %ProgramFiles%\* however, when I log in and try to run programs (e.g. Word) it still says the program is restricted by software restriction policy. What method can I use to run ALL files from %ProgramFiles% not just ones specified in a folder structure.

Right, I have changed the setting to restrict everything by default. However, I noticed that only Program Files\*.exe is enabled. So, e.g. Word won't run as it sits in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE" so that equates to "%ProgramFiles%\*\*\*.exe" is there anyway I can allow ALL files under Program Files regardless of directory structure, as most programs sit under multiple directories under Program Files.

It's funny you mention that, I just posted here about that. I tried blocking *.exe and leaving the others Program Files, etc as Unrestricted, which was already there. But is seems disallow takes precedence.

Noticed that this program has been doing the rounds on our network. It manages to edit IE's proxy to 127.0.0.1 Port: 9666 to get out to the Internet. I have added versions 9.2 - 9.5 to our software restriction policy. However, is there a way we can actually stop it getting out. We don't have a firewall in house so we can't do any blocking on any firewall, however, a quote from their website sounds rather worrying: Source - Utra Reach So, how would I go about blocking this thing from ever getting out?

Sorry to bring this thread back from the depths of thread doom, however, I was trying this method of blocking *.exe files with the default settings of Program Files, SystemDrive, SystemRoot etc being unrestricted. But, disabling *.exe seems to overide the unrestricted settings. So, is there any simple way of blocking .exe files from anywhere other than those locations?

I though this myself and it might be my next solution, just thought I would try a different method because I thought it was pointless not using the 4Gb RAM when it was there.

I've just brought a new laptop for Assembly presentations. It' has 4Gb RAM, so I left it running Vista x64. However, the school would like it to run like a normal domain PC. XP with group policies etc. I decided to install VMware Server 2.0 on it, however, found that there was no way that I could automatically get the VM to actually display at startup. I know it can automatically boot up in the background. But can it actually pop up on startup so the end user doesn't have to do anything and can be taken to the VM straight away. I have managed this with VMware Workstation. Just add the .vmx file to the startup and set it to play with VMware Player. However, VMware Server doesn't come with Player, it comes with it's own Remote Console Plug-In. Also, does VMware Player support audio? I have used the VM created from VMware Server to play on VMware Player, but it keeps saying no audio device detected. To achieve what I want, will I need VMware Workstation?
