backup exec 2012 problems with exchange 2007 backups
RabbieBurns replied to RabbieBurns's topic in Enterprise Software
looking through the event logs on the exchange server I see this which I dont think Ive seen before: Event Type: Information Event Source: Storage Group Consistency Check Event Category: Database Header Validation Event ID: 200 Date: 22/03/2012 Time: 7:01:40 PM User: N/A Computer: MAILSERVER2 Description: Instance 1: Database headers have been successfully validated. All databases are in a dirty shutdown state. To bring these databases to a clean shutdown state, log generations 1408215 (0x00157cd7) to 1408233 (0x00157ce9) will be required. Im wondering what they mean, and if @sukh might be able to suggest if this is correlating to my backup exec errors? -
In backup exec 2010 I had a backup job that backed up my 2007 mailserver, and my 2010 mailserver as the one job. When I upgraded to 2012 backup exec, it split this job into 2 seperate jobs. And now the 2007 Mailserver backup job has been failling ever since. Ive been on the phone with Backup Exec support all week, however they have been making small changes at a time and making me run the backup again. Problem is my mailstore is about 200GB and backups take about 14 hours to run which isnt much use when trying to troubleshoot. His latest suggesiton is to reboot the mailserver and try again. Mailserver was rebooted on Saturday and backups have been failling before and after that reboot so I dont see how a reboot will help again. But I will humuour him and reboot it tonight but I dont hold out much hope. So im resorting to this place Error code is E00FEDF and message is The job failed with the following error: A failure occurred reading an object. The job log was not available to be included as part of this notification. Any help much appreciated. Cheers

a bit off topic but kind of related.. iplayer recently came to the WD TV device as well which I have at a place in scotland. The following issue has been reported to me and Im at a bit of a loss for an explaination. They'vee only got a 2mb internet connection. On a laptop, and PC, iplayer works fine through the webpage. If i plug the WD into a 20" tv, iplayer works fine, but if i plug it into a 50" tv, it buffers badly and only plays a couple of seconds at a time. Does iplayer somehow detect the resolution of the TV and try to stream a higher quality picture? Is there a way of turning this off? Its kind of annoying having to switch TVs every time i want to watch iplayer.

Is there such a cable or bit of hardware that will let me have one one device, eg sky box, and plugged in to 2 TVs. I often change which TV im watching on depending on what else is on and am getting fed up of unplugging the HDMI cable between the 2 TVs. If I could have it plugged in to both at the same time it would save me a lot of hassel. Does such a thing exist?

why is it that i struggle for a solution all week, and within minutes of posting it on here i find the answer!? root@ubuntu:/home/rex/public_html# cd /var/lib/dpkg/updates/ root@ubuntu:/var/lib/dpkg/updates# rm * root@ubuntu:/var/lib/dpkg/updates# sudo dpkg --configure -a dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 0: newline in field name `#!/bin/sh' root@ubuntu:/var/lib/dpkg/updates# dpkg --clear-avail root@ubuntu:/var/lib/dpkg/updates# sudo dpkg --configure -a now it works root@ubuntu:/var/lib/dpkg/updates# apt-get install php5-gd Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed: libt1-5 The following NEW packages will be installed: libt1-5 php5-gd 0 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 15 not upgraded. Need to get 212kB of archives. After this operation, 598kB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue [Y/n]? Thanks for you suggestion cybernerd but to copy all the files off the CD would probably take me longer than to build a new install ;p

root@ubuntu:/home/rex/public_html# apt-get install php5-gd E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. root@ubuntu:/home/rex/public_html# sudo dpkg --configure -a dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0000' near line 0: newline in field name `#!/bin/sh' last reboot f2sk fixed a loadf of file system errors and Im guessing something in the dpkg folder has become corrupt.. Im in the process of migrating everything to a new server but I need to get php5-gd installed and would like to try get apt fixed.. Is it a lost cause?

My SAN is a fibre channel San and I wanted to run DPM as a VM. The server I am using for backups of the SAN is on another campus hence just backing up to a network share on that machine. Ive just installed Shadow Protect Virtual on the VMs, took 5 mins each and it was pretty cheap.

Metro UI, looks like it's there to stay on the desktop

confused. how can they go from good to bad overnight? -
I looked at DPM but it had to have a physical disk allocated to it. I ended up going with VMWare Backup & Replication - ESX Backup - VM Backup | ShadowProtect Virtual which was pretty reasonable and backs up to a network share which i couldnt get DPM to do.

thanks, 1.30 sounds good ill try that out. Is there a minimum contract or can I just get it for a month to try it out? What OS does it run? -
Ive got some boxes sitting at my house back in scotland but the internet connection on them is just home adsl. Im looking to get a shell on a box in the UK that in can install and run openVPN on it that has a decent internet connection, anything > 5mbs would be fine I reckon. Im not sure if i will have to take out a whole linux VPS hosting package, all I need is a shell to install openVPN and to use it occasionly, cant imagine even using 1gb of data a month. Can anyone point me in the direction of a company that might be able to offer something like this? Woud Carl @ new media offer a service like this does anyone know? Cheers.
