The other thing I remember from my previous job was that mail was forwarded on from our ISP to a specific IP address, so you may want to check whether the IP address mail is forwarded onto has been updated on your ISP.

I'd be interested to see the fix because I had this same issue a while back, made a couple of changes to the registry as suggested by another site I found googling the issue and that part fixed it but something else wasn't working, can't remember what now. I then did something else, might have been sfc but I can't remember now, but after whatever it was rebooting the machine then killed it with a missing system file so ended up just rebuilding it.

I would say, and others may agree or disagree, in that have a job, even if it is just a part time one initially in a supermarket somewhere, so then you can provide examples of customer service, responsibility, general skills of working in a team. To me at the last place I worked when they were looking for somebody one of the things that did crop up for one person is them having never worked before, anywhere, so the question of how they would get on was raised (again rightly or wrongly). The other thing is, and I did this when I was applying for my first job out of uni, was go to the careers service at uni and make yourself known. They'll have links to job sites out there looking for graduates, I know there's one in the north west set up and run by several uni's. But also they will probably provide and application form and cv checking service free of charge, or atleast provide you with some guidance on how to tailor your CV/application for to the job description/person spec. I didn't realise in all honesty how far off the mark what I thought was supposed to be put on an application form and what people are looking for and how quickly they may will discard it if they can't find the info they are looking for at a glance. Maybe naivety on my part but then again a couple of things I would never thought of. Plus most should offer support after you have graduated too, I know the one I went to does. Don't know whether that will help at all, but good luck!

There's no scheduled task set up to run every hour on the machines are there?

Only problem with that (as I found out last year somewhere else) is that if you then deploy Outlook 2007 Microsoft removed the ability to do this.

They can be installed from WSUS but need xmllite installed on the client first. It should be installed by either SP3 or by IE7, but I haven't been able to verify it on some of my SP2 machines yet as some machines say that the CSE is Not Applicable (since I'm looking to do something fairly similar to you come the new server install).

At startup or logon? If I remember rightly on CC3 under user types there is an option to run a program at logon. Might be something simmilar under global workstation settings or workstation types for startup?

Can I just tag on the end of this question? We are getting a new server installed over the summer to host SIMS and we are also going to Lesson Monitor in september. So working on that basis, I've been setting up the workstations ready for this and now realise I'm probably going to end up with the same problem. Is there any reason why I couldn't go and change the SIMS.ini file to point to s:\sims\setups rather then servername\simsfolder\sims\setups? (or could someone point me in a direction of a logon script I could use to update this rather then going round each workstation again come september?)

This will probably seem a rather odd question, but something I read on here raised it. We are getting a new SIMS server installed and so are getting 2008 installed on the server but keeping it as a member server rather then a DC. If I run the domainprep/forestprep on the 2k3 server, would I then be able to use the print management from the 2008 member server to push the printers out to workstations or would I need to have a 2008 DC? Like I say, probably a daft question, but main server isn't due to be replaced until next year.

Have you tried %programfiles%\* ? I think that should do it, but not 100% certain.

Thanks for that SYNACK, put my mind at rest about what I'd planned to do. Does it make any difference whether I make the other DC have the Main DC as it's primary DNS server or not? Any advantages/disadvantages having it either way?

Hi I'm kind of working through a list of things I've noticed, most of which is going on to another list such as the backups, and have now arrived to DNS. At the moment, all clients and servers, have the 2 DC's DNS and the ISP's DNS and I have left this as it is for the time being because it's carried on working and since it did that I wasn't to worried. Anyway, in order to correct this, I'm planning on getting rid of the ISP's DNS and hopefully the system is going to go to using the DC's DNS and the forwarders configured. Now, there's a couple of questions before I go changing things on the DC's. 1. The DC's I'm assuming shouldn't have the ISP's DNS either, right? If not, then presumably, the Main DC has it's self configured as the primary DNS and the other DC as it's Secondary DNS and then the forwarders will take care of that, is that right? 2. Should the other DC follow the same rule, so the Primary DNS is the Main DC and it's self as the Secondary DNS, or is its self which should be the Primary DNS? I've had a scout about on the net and can't really find an answer. Probably the search terms I'm using. 3. Reverse lookup zones. I currently don't have any. Searching the edugeek most people say it will work without, but it's easy enough to set up so might as well be there. So, having found a simple guide on how to do it, probably a daft question, but do I create a primary zone for each of the ranges I've got? So if I had 10.10.1.0, 10.10.2.0 and 10.10.3.0, I'd create a primary zone for each one? Thanks Cache

Slightly different tact now, as I really don't think I'm going to be able to get this sort of system in, so was wondering if anyone had used something like this: Insight UK - Tandberg RDX QuikStor - Disk drive - RDX - Hi-Sp... - 8550-RDX Or would it be just as easy (and probably cheaper) to go and buy a load of usb HDD and back up to them? Any suggestions? Thanks

Don't know if you got it working yet or not, but you've mistyped Agents in that screenshot.

The other way to do it, although it will probably be a bit more work, is to add the printer as a local printer on each machine seting the port as a tcp/ip port. Will then show up for all users, but no central management of the print queue, each workstation will serve it's own.

Well ours seemed to go off without a hitch yesterday and the APS says they've all been sent off which is good to know! Hope yours went ok!

Have you tried taking off the filter which will only show settings that can be fully managed? (Click on Administrative Templates then View -> Filtering -> Untick the Fully Managed box)

The instructions I got which were downloaded through the APS are found in: [installdir]\QCA Testing\Admin Point System\FILE_STORE\Software\AS and there was a zip folder called OCR ELBS Guides May 2009 Again, generic stuff but might help out. Edit: Just looked on the APS and it seems the exam for the 20th May is pending download now, so will be able to get that allocated out shortly.

Might also need the modify permission too.

Had this same issue, if you look ine the Filestore on the APS server, there will be some documentation specific to setting up the exam for the OCR (well, not specific but OCR customised, I saw similar stuff from AQA last year). I've just finished setting my candidates up and the first lot of sessions allocated. It gives you 2 options, either setting them up manually, or importing from the EDI files which were sent off to the exam board (which will then also automatically put the Centre and Candidate Numbers on Automatically for you, as well as another acronym I can't remember the name of) so that you don't have to go and put these details on manually. I can give you the exact location tomorrow if you like.

So do you just plug a usb HDD in and back it up to that then? Would you have one for each server and just use NT backup or still go with a separate backup server? Will have to look in more detail at rsback/centos. Thanks for the replies so far.
