I'm trying to import 1800 UDF values for contacts. I split the file down so I was only importing 10 lines, the preview worked ok, but when I did the import it opened the html log file and told me it hadn't imported any of the details.. Any ideas? Peter

@entyp66, you're 20 minutes from me in Cross Hills. I've just installed Papercut ready for replacing our MFDs in July, but we did the 85 printers > 13 MFDs process 4.5 years ago; you're welcome to pop over and chat if you want. Currently we do staff release with students printing direct, but the new regime from September will be everyone pull, with the exception of the LRC which will have two load-balanced MFDs that just spit out when you print at break/lunch. I haven't come across Ninja Blocks before, but looking at it, isn't their software based on coding? The whole UI for Indigo is not only great in the first place, but also extensible by plugin writers. You can achieve 80-90-100% of what you want without touching code, but if you have specific need for some code to do something complex, ask on the forum and we'll help you with the code to put into a Python script action - all within Indigo's UI. Instead of putting Indigo on a par with Ninja Blocks or LightwaveRF products from B&Q, which are individual ecosystems, you should compare it with VeraEdge / Micasa Verde (Veraâ„¢ â–¾ Smarter Home Control) or the Fibaro HomeCenter (The Fibaro System | Fibaro - Z-Wave smart home solution) - all three of these are designed as central solutions that bring together the various ecosystems into one. There are several new users on the Indigo forums each month saying "I'm just migrating from VeraEdge...." or "... from Fibaro HomeCenter..." - there's got to be a reason for it. I've only seen one user mention switching the other way, and we solved the issues he had due to his misunderstanding of certain features. "If I press a switch in the lounge/media room, please turn the lights down, switch on the TV, surround sound and Media player, lock the front door, switch to the relevant inputs, close the blinds and...." - try doing that in Ninja Blocks on its own, or in Phillips Hue on its own, or in Nest on its own... You have to start somewhere, so buying a few LightwaveRF and/or Phillips Hue devices is quite possible a good start - operate them using their own native apps to start with, then in a couple of months buy the Indigo Starter pack, then add a couple of motion sensors, then.... and just keep on building. It's an expensive hobby, not an expensive product - but for the geeks in us here on this forum, it's a fun hobby. Peter

Have a look at Indigo Home Automation (http://www.indigodomo.com) Natively it supports Zwave, X10 and Insteon, but there are plugins for loads of stuff including LightwaveRF, Phillips Hue, Sonos, Nest.... The community is huge, forums are as active as Edugeek; several members including myself write/maintain user plugins alongside the Devs - who themselves are on the boards on a daily basis responding to questions. Unless I'm missing something / mis-understanding the situation, you're over complicating the solution. What are you trying to achieve? You currently have an old ST fiber patch panel, which has an ST-ST (?) cable into the 10mb switch? And you have a new SC fiber patch panel. Are you trying to connect the new SC panel into the old 10mb switch, or into a different switch? Does the new switch have fiber inputs? What is the new switch? Or, is the old 10mb switch simply acting as a media-convertor? Let us know then we can be sure to recommend you the right solution. Also if the ST-ST fibre cable you've got has writing on it, let us know. Peter

So yes, when you are testing and making changes, you should mainly use 'show run'. The only time I use 'show conf' is if I want to see what effect a change has made, between the running and stored configs.

"show run" is the running config in RAM. "show conf" is the stored config on disk. Once you do "write mem" they should both match. Peter

No, everything should change and go live as soon as you press enter. The switch will be running from the config in RAM at this point, and any change you make is instantly live. When you reboot the switch, it will revert back to the config stored on disk/rom/whatever is inside the switch. This is by design in case you make a bad config choice - rebooting the switch will revert it to what was previously working before you made changes. Therefore when you have tested the change and are happy with it, you need to type 'write mem' to commit it to disk - this will then be stored and used if you reboot the switch at any time. Peter

On HP you shouldn't need to 'no' untag anything. As a port can only be untagged in one vlan, just untagging it in the new vlan is enough. (This wouldn't be true for tagging, but it is for untagging) Vlan 88 Untagged 16 Exit

Hi everyone. There's been a number of discussions on here about support for 2003 ending but needing to keep a server for Logo/Expo Electro etc. Well I think I've successfully migrated our copy of Logo and Expo from 2003 with the default MSDE SQL database, onto 2008 R2 with an SQL 2008 R2 database. Before I publish the notes publically, I'd like someone who's in the same boat to have a go with them - any volunteers? Peter

I have 3 x VM host due to the size of my school and thus VM estate. Currently Veeam to tertiary backup server (36TB local storage, 48GB RAM) which can theoretically run Veeam's live DR hosting - only problem is, the local storage is full of the last 3 weeks backups so I've nowhere to restore tapes onto if I need to restore from further back. Never under-estimate the amount of storage backups take, and how data usage is growing exponentially at the moment. I'm looking whether to get tape library or big storage for long-term archives at the moment. Peter

Yes and yes. Our staff have school iPads which are managed in Meraki. They have a personal apple account on them. They were bought pre-DEP and pre-VPP so do have some school-bought apps on that I cannot revoke and re-use; they permanently belong to that apple account now. However any apps bought in the last 6-9 months have been bought by school as VPP. In Meraki, under VPP, is a list (auto-synced from Apple) of what licenses we own, how many are issued and how many are still available. In the same place is a list of apple IDs I've invited to our VPP - about 20 so far. I can assign any unused license to any of these IDs, and the app will then show up in their App Store as 'Not on this device' as though they've previously bought it; they then download it free. If they leave and/or I revoke a license, they are given 30 days to purchase the app themselves before it disappears from the device and their App Store.
