  1. I've not had (noticeable/serious) problems using compatibles in any other manufacturers machines. Yes, you would expect quality and service life to diminish using compatibles, but I've not seen it happen so quickly or assertively in other brands as I have in my Kyocera's.
  2. What s/he said.
  3. I like our Kyocera desktop printers, as long as you feed them original toner. As soon as you put compatibles in, they seem to a) go downhill, and b) the warranty becomes void so you can't fix them.
  4. The relevant setup exe in //server/Sophos/some/random/folder/something.exe supports silent switches. I'll check out properly if no one gets there first. (I'm on holiday at moment but still got remote access in)
  5. I use format-table also, but with -autosize on the end. $Students | format-table -autosize
  6. FoldR: http://freeyourfiles.co.uk/education-sector
  7. http://www.optechfibres.co.uk/ for years.
  8. I'm considering an in-place upgrade of 2003-2008 to save myself hassle.
  9. You use Bio? That's the hardest part I'm anticipating.
  10. Ditto, CRB all on its own server - currently 2003 so I'll be building a new one after my holiday. Tim, all comms to the server are done by IP address (or server name?) in $impactfolder/data/impact.ini lines 1-5. If you're moving SIMS anyway, just demote this server to be Cashless only?
  11. As FN-GM says, the VLAN only needs to know the gateway IP of whichever VLAN it is in. This is mainly given out by DHCP. You can either have a DHCP server in each VLAN, or you can have one DHCP server somewhere and tell each VLAN where it is. Of my 12 VLANs, I have a DHCP server on the FRDC which has individual scopes for VLANS 7-13 which are all my client PCs. Within the settings of each DHCP scope, you set option 003 Router to be the gateway of that VLAN. (Other options such as 004 Time server, 006 DNS servers etc are set at global level, but 003 Router is set per scope) There is no DHCP scope for 2-6 because they are static servers, network devices, ESX management etc. If you're using one DHCP server for everything, you need an extra line in the Cisco config per VLAN. If you take Muz's example and have your DHCP server on the Management VLAN at 10.10.20.1 then you'd need the following: Peter
  12. Used minidiscs for our Panto SFX for about 4-5 years on two proper desktop players. Towards the end, bought a portable minidisc player - used couple if times, but still in drawer now where I put it years ago.

    SSD Failure

If you connect the drive to a working PC (either another PC, or the original one after you've replaced it) does it connect at all even if it won't boot from it? Ive used a tool several times (which I'll have to check name of cos there's two similar ones) but it needs the drive to be mounted ok first.
  14. Your connect.ini will give you the correct syntax for servername and databasename.
  15. I never said migrate - you don't have to use any of it, just (!) setup the AD sync of all your accounts and off you go with SIMS
  16. I'm not defending Capita's stance on this, but both Google and O365 support AD sync of accounts or passwords, so it would be possible - even if you don't use either of them currently - to claim your free O365 school's account and literally only use it for SIMS auth. Yes it would be a pain, but it would work to avoid separate logins.
  17. I was asked to remove all ours about 3 years ago so I locked them in an IT Room in the middle of our school building. Got a roasting from the site manager three days later when he found them. Apparently the quadrangle next to the IT room is regularly visited overnight without ladders despite 15-18 foot walls to it.
  18. 20 mins on loo, reading Facebook and RSS. Then 25 minutes in shower (that's when it switches off!) usually daydreaming about what I'm doing that day rather than actually taking that long to shower. I can be at work 20 mins from waking if absolutely necessary, with 15 minute usual drive cut down to 10'ish.
  19. Well I never... Nope, I've never come across this and I script/code regularly with Dos and recently PowerShell! Thanks!
  20. I'd turn it off and on again, just for good measure! ;-)
  21. We use Google Apps forms.
  22. Can you post the spreadsheet, or a few lines of, rather than a copy-paste?
  23. Using dbattach to attach the DB, not SQL Studio?
  24. Set your connect.ini to the new server correctly?
  25. Yep, I got it. BioStore rang me a few times last year trying to get me to upgrade, and Cunninghams know it. Might replace it with NRS this year.
