  1. Spice works has a shutdown add-on which I've used successfully at several places.
  2. We have loads of young newts (newtpoles?) in our pond, far more than usual
  3. You may find a few fans in switches etc. either seize or screech when turned back on from cold!
  4. Playing with the Royal PHILharmonic Orchestra
  5. Isn't the reality that by now we'd being seeing a significant and provable link in effects in the general population as mobile signals/cordless/baby monitors/CCTV/microwaves etc have been in use for long enough?
  6. Can't remember where you somewhere in the MMC there's an option to run a diag on users etc: might give you some clues.
  7. We are looking at this too. Left field suggestion is to use one of our NAS which can host VM's. The QNAP we have can also DNS and DHCP natively too. Might get us out of a hole if our main server dies.
  8. I tried a tin foil one but it was a bit hot. But yes covering up a good idea especially for those of that are follically challenged.
  9. I am currently sitting outside a cafe (haha not working today) being irradiated-by the sun. I'm far more worried about getting sunburn than a weedy few milliwatts of radio wave.
  10. Wireless charging to avoid broken cables/connectors
  11. +1 for duplicati. We backup around 30 encrypted staff laptops with duplicati to users gdrive. With duplicati monitoring https://www.duplicati-monitoring.com/ We can easily see problems. We also use syncbackpro to backup critical folders with recovery and versioning. It also backs up to gdrive if required.
  12. We set staff users to staff proxy so they have to login for unrestricted mode. I prefer this as it means staff have to think before they access something potentially NSFW. They can also have one browser logged in to staff proxy and another not which they can display without fear of unwanted stuff showing. RM want to get rid of staff proxy but I like it.
  13. Unfortunately fridges are a difficult one. Very high start current and over 24 hours will use quite a lot of power. Some with electronic controls may not be happy running from a (cheap) stepped sine wave inverter. Pure sine wave inverters with a decent transient capacity like Victron are expensive. A smaller peltier 12 volt fridge might be more practical but they aren't terribly efficient either. Remember lead acid batteries can only use 50-80% of rated capacity.
  14. Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky and Marx it is then... I Did once use Babel, Eiffel and London because they were towers... In real life we use LTxx PCxx and similar so that they sort nicely in spiceworks
  15. Is it just me or are Microsoft breaking more things these days and don't seem able or willing to test or fix them? Bit like a bull in a china shop.
  16. You could use different colours to indicate link speed/type with a key
  17. And if you're Donald Trump it probably says covfefe
  18. Libre office draw. Just done ours. There's also a nice set of IT devices shapes available as an add on. Visio would be nice but can't afford it! I've tried a few others but draw has been easiest to use.
  19. But they'd have been bored after the first minute!
  20. Yep, me too. Maybe that's where they got the idea?
  21. Used Sophos central for about 9 months and overall very happy. Endpoint on everything and intercept X on admin pcs and staff laptops. The policies for monitoring/banning particular hardware eg unencrypted USB devices or applications is brilliant. It even unearthed an old laptop that still had office2007 on which we'd forgotten about. Occasionally had to reinstall it but overall very good.
  22. Have you looked at the lynx software that comes with clever touch? That's what persuaded us to get clever touch boards. It can import smart files and looks pretty good. There is also openbord (sankore fork) but I found it rather clunky.
  23. Spiceworks web version here. Not found any major problems except that the date format is fixed on mmddyy which hurts my brain trying to remember to decode it! Started using it about 4 months ago and it has really helped to have records of things done in one place.
  24. Thanks for that. I did have a quick look on RM support but then remembered that there was something on the mighty Edugeek.
  25. Likewise. Had this annoying thing on our CC4 network today. Luckily I remembered seeing this post and thanks to @fordea fixed it. Edubeer you sir.
