+1 for the Kingston metal encrypted data traveller usb. We issued to all staff about 3 years ago and so far no failures and zero complaints (cue knock on the door...). We get staff to put their password in a sealed envelope in the safe in case they forget.

You may need to empty the network recycle bin(s) as well. There's also qboost on the newest firmware which may free up some space. I've found that it can take a very long to delete stuff from QNAP NAS!

Interesting. I've seen something similar in the last year or so but we use Windows 7. Completely random. Usually swapping USB ports fixes it but not always. Sometimes a different mouse/kb helps. Occurs on different makes of PC. My gut feeling is this didn't used to happen. USB either worked or not. Could it be a Windows update causing trouble?

Works well here with our KM554's We did have to put labels on to remind people not to remove carts before they were empty. Just need to fix the problem of staff printing too much stuff.....

Have you looked at learnpads? Management is a doddle. The hardware is not as good as an iPad but much much cheaper. Our oldest 4 year old set of 32 has lost about 8 mainly due to the old power connectors not being robust enough but all the newer ones are all still working fine.

Right. I copied the \firmware folder from the successful home install to \\servername\c$\Users\Administrator\Ubiquiti UniFi\data\firmware, logged out and back in and the firmware updates were then available in maintenance cached. I was then able to update the AP's normally via the cache. Hurrah. Warning: I suggest you make backups first of course, and bear in mind that I duplicated the school config which known what AP models you have to download the firmware updates for. Yes, it's a bodge but at least it bought us some time as I really wanted to fix the vulnerability issues. We will still need to look at the firewall issue later though.

I've now tested an AP-Pro at home to see if I can find out a bit more.Clean win7x64 install, windows updated, chrome, javax64 8.151 unifi controller v5.6.20 and restore config, so it's basically the same config as at school.I was able to update the fw cache to the latest versions off the website ok.I could then update the AP-Pro to fw v.3.9.3.7953 okLooking at the wireshark logs I could see the AP itself trying to contact the unifi NTP server and dl.ubnt.com, although I stupidly had IPv6 enabled which has overcomplicated things.So my thoughts are that this looks to me like our (SWGfL) firewall or DNS? is the problem, or even that the AP needs a proxy setting, so I may try wireshark again at work to see if I can narrow down what is required.I also wonder if manually copying the c:\users\%username%\ubiquiti unifi\data\firmware\ folder and firmware.json files across might make them available in the unifi controller - even if that's a bit of a bodge.... Could Bluetooth be doing something odd?

Yes we have and it seems ok but still won't update. We are on java 8.151 from memory as we usually update java and then update the unifi s/w. Last successful fw. update was in July from memory.

We've also had this problem and been unable to fix it. There's some discussion on the unified forums that it's due to firewalls stopping access to the fw site although we've tried local updates and via SSH on the AP itself with no luck. I've actually taken one home to try and update there to prove it. Some people found that DNS settings or incorrect time were to blame. I'll update with my home test results.

We've used Insight and always been very happy with them. They will usually try and price match and despatch quickly. +1 for ICT Direct as well.

Our house sounds similar, 1850's stone with a modern 2005 extension. We have 2 wood burners but as above it's a lot of work to store, stack and move wood (and expensive if you buy pre-seasoned hardwood) and there is definitely more dust and smell, storage, flue sweeping costs, plus one room gets stupidly hot while the rest of the house is cold. We also have an old open flue oil combi boiler for hot water and central heating, but they are noisy and oil servicing and parts costs are higher than a gas boiler - Worcester Bosch and Grant are the most reliable. The regs. on oil boilers (double skin tank, flue siting) get tighter every year too. Have you looked at air source heat pump (aka fridge on steroids) as well? The technology has really advanced and there are various options integrated tank/outside etc and virtually no maintenance costs, eg; https://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/products/heat-pumps/directory/greenstore-lecp-heat-pumps They are most efficient for low temperature, underfloor heating and large surface area radiators; in an old poorly insulated house it may struggle but a good installer will calculate the heat required accurately - our 18KW oil combi is undersized for our house for example.

Same here. Across 5 schools I can only think of a handful of teachers that actually used them . Same with flatbed scanners. Loads bought but never used. Maybe you could get one to see if staff really want to use it? One problem is just the sheer space the bigger units take up on small desks to say nothing of another thing to plug in and cause confusion to supply teachers!

We've got 5 of the Epson eb470 models which have all been fine over 4 years or so. One school has the the touchscreen wi version which staff really like.

Stone computers? They supply clevo laptops so might have parts available. We've used laptops and spares. Co.uk who've been pretty good.

We buy for our teachers, around 20 devices. We have 5 years on site warranty NBD to avoid disruption and avoid data security issues. We issue a few older ones to HLTAS but they don't usually go off site. One of the main reasons is prepaing smart board lessons. The Web based version is slow and not completely compatible.

It all looks so easy in Thunderbirds!

At last! KM engineer visited yesterday and updated the firmware on our KM c554e and both now work with SMBv2. Still disappointed at the lack of communication over this but at least it is done. It looks like the relevant FW is MFP Card Version A5C10Y0-F000-GDB-M1
