We've found that ancient remotes will often still work for many functions if they're the same make. Several 9 year old Epson remotes will still do the basic things.

I used to work for the OU in support and have done a couple of courses since I left. I really like their course materials - everything is tested and well supported; it was probably the best place I ever worked as well. In some ways I think the course forums are the best part as you will get great help and collaboration/commiseration from other students in the same boat. Level 2 courses are a fair bit of work and include 4 "day schools" T216 | Cisco Networking (CCNA) | Open Universityy Course which would be great for meeting other people and real hands on with kit you couldn't afford to buy. If you can afford it, and can commit to it, go for it - I suspect it looks better on the cv too, and gives you 60 points to another degree qualification if you want that.

2 new touchscreeens being installed Monday - (non pupil day!), new starters and a new trolley of Learnpads to deploy (easy) Returned laptops to gather up, fix and redeploy (hard). About a million windows updates to deploy too. Even though I know it will be ok, I can never sleep the night before the start of a new term.

Hmm. With tinnitus I have this all the time! Sounds a bit like a jet engine in my left ear. Luckily I tune it out but otherwise it would be maddening.

Could it be the weather? It may be subjective but it feels like more batteries seem fail on a change to hot humid conditions (yes,looking at you Mr. Smoke Alarm peeping at 3am....)

I wonder how much NHS time and money was spent having to compile that information so that a commercial company can suggest that it can "help" by flogging RAM. I agree that it can often be worth upgrading old kit: I do it all the time but there is a cost keeping older things going. Things like PSU fans and motherboard capacitors do fail more over time. I sometimes find that just opening up an old machine seems to cause faults to appear!

I've seen this too and contacted both letter join and smart. They both acknowledge the problem but it seems that smart will probably not be fixing it, at least in v11.4

Thats the kind of thing was for BECTA before it was abolished.

Had an email back from a KM service engineer. He says; "I am informed that the firmware is coming out in August This will be available for the machines you have at your schools C454e, C284, and C554 older models that are out there have no plan to update Firmware " That seems to confirm the information in the previous post about this. I still think it's a bit poor of KM not to post this officially on their website. Roll on August!

Just raised yet another call with Konica Minolta about this (3rd or 4th one?). Although all perfectly polite, offering to send an engineer out, upgrade firmware etc, they don't seem able to grasp that all customers want is some clarity around what copiers support SMB2 now (e..g C308), what copiers don't (e.g. c554/284) and what is the fix with a date, and to make this available on their support page to avoid wasting everyone's time. Lack of joined up thinking. I keep pointing out that this is not about 1 copier in a school in the bottom left hand corner of England, but potentially every device that scans. I'm sure the NHS will not want to be running SMB1 any more..... I also pointed out that the recent Intel AMT vulnerability was dealt with by Dell, HP, etc.with clear information and timelines and as a result it was no big deal. Curious that such a large company seems unable/unwilling to think about what is required by their customers and missing a chance to look good.

Learn pad safetynet and RM support RM books SSO are handy, plus its simple to add your own shortcuts. Good for the children as you can allow home access to eg RM books only. As I'm only in school part time it's also peace of mind that there is support if I'm ill or absent. I agree if you have good on site support with time to develop your own solution but for primaries it's not bad.

Just had a quick look and it looks like we had to install the add on program which was cardprint.exe. If you don't have an MLS contract to get a copy I think comparing the folders on the old machine and new and copying anything required across does the job. I quite like junior lib - it's nice and easy to fix and does actually work, unlike some newer versions....

We had exactly this problem copying ours several years ago. .I'll try and dig out our solution in work tomorrow. I think we manually copied some required files across and possibly installed an add on again.

Decent 2nd hand corporate Dell or HP desktops with i5 and and an SSD have been great. No failures in 2 years. Better than mediocre new machines with weird drivers and random problems. Some of my schools are still using donated Dell 170L which must be 10 years old! I'm less convinced by 2nd hand laptops as batteries often need replacing and track pads, hinges etc seem prone to failures. Another weak point is the power connectors which are often a total pita to resolder.

Have you tried a firmware update? That seemed to make them more reliable. I've had two that bricked themselves for no reason but luckily connecting via iTunes USB recovered them. The lack of proxy settings is also really annoying. Overpriced and not good enough.

But it would stop the children removing them though.....

Also integrates with g suite if you use that which is neat.

I think this was shown at the last round of the RM tech seminars if that helps.
