I do it the same way as @cullingsh redirecting the to the custom start folder on the C drive means no network fluffs or unexpected dead links. I like to use thick images now with WDS (as it's sooo good now) but you can configure software to place an icon in the custom start folder when it installs OR you can get Group policy Preferences to place a shortcut into the custom startup folder.

normally easier to get a USB wifi stick and a usb extension lead (sometimes they come with a little dock and extension lead) but moving the VDSL Router upstairs can help. (normally a phone extension somewhere upstairs house.) This wifi dongle gives (imho) the best signal reception ever and is fast enough for most uses. (EW-7711UAn with 3dBi Higain) This is what I call the "it just works" dongle. I'm not sure when it happened but the pictures in emails are not available to download anymore. This has affected everyone. Even when you tell the bluebar at the top to download the pictures it says the linked image is unavailable... I've recently changed to the SSLFilter proxy server and updated the Exchange server from SP1 to SP3 update pack 15... I'm not sure when it happened. I used to be able to right click on an image to download the pictures but that option has gone.. I'ev set my client to automatically download the images and I get the link failure. Ideas?

I was double checking the exchange prerequisites for 2013 migration. The build number in my Exchange 2007 box says Version 8.3 (Build83.6) That would be vanilla Exchange 2007 SP3, But I know and verified that I'd installed KB2996150 This should put me at 8.3.406.0. Am I looking in the wrong place for the build numbers? I assume that 8.3 (Build83.6) is see in the console = 8.3.083.6? Cheers Is there a PS command to show build number?

without knowing the spec of your PC it's hard to say, or if you have future plans to upgrade your mobo/cpu in the near future. The 960 has amazing benchmarks for the money although for the same money you could get a 760 which benches slightly slower but has massive specs they may pan out to a better overall average framerate. you could get a 770 for £216 (Scan) which is a mighty card. Having 4GB of RAM on the card is of little benefit right now but may prove it's self in a few years.

My last server is my Exchange 2007SP3 on 2003R2 64bit waiting for the summer hols for a exchange 2013 upgrade.

Just as an Idea, you could get a £80 Full windows tablet with HDMI, it can be powered by the screen from USB and has battery backup with wifi built in. (quiet and tiny with minimal power consumption) Also it already has a full windows licence.

I'm now using WDS on 2012R2 and you can just place the drivers on the server and it'll install them to your generic (no driver) image! (Such an upgrade from 2003!) Also you can WMI filter the PCs (In WDSs Driver Packages) so only some PCs get specific versions of Drivers. (Useful for me as I know Dual display messes up on our Elitebooks if I don't use a certain old version on the Intel Drivers) FYI Creating the Image on a VM (but if using VMware change the hard disk from scsi to IDE or it won't survive the sysprep)

I'm wanting this game but stipulates the need for a quad core, I have the Pentium 20th Anniversary Edition OCed to 4.4Ghz but it's on a non-hyperthreaded Haswell dual core. Also a HD7950 which is nice. Will the game just refuse to run if it has only 2 cores or complain like Rage did but run great anyway?

I was thinking if I could get a 3D Printer pass the bursar for my Dept. They're now only £400, I could use it legitimately for spare parts for a few of the PC towers. I could get a 6th former to design the Parts (and maybe do some side projects for my self We do have an amazing 3d Printer (Strata) in Tech that's over a decade old but it's carts are £300! without knowing anything about your system, I'd disable WMM, if you can and limit yourself to 20Mhz channels (No Channel bonding 2.4 or 5) you may also want to check if the system has a minimum RSSID connection strength for the clients. Also disallow legacy wifi devices (802.11b) with the switches make sure that STP is enabled (fast start for wired PCs (not Apple Macs) no fast start for everything else) Do you have a WiSpy to look for interference (Microwaves, Cordless phones, birdbox cams) our new low energy lights upset a few older APs! (now Unifi and all good)

The Ethernet here was old when I joined 10 years ago, it's all CAT5e and has no issues. I was wondering does it have a shelf life? Should I factor in a replacement cycle? Will it degrade over extended time?

I use our laser cutter here. Just use some paper it should cut through 80gsm but not card. For us on out laser cutter it's full power BUT at full speed. Unsure? cut a coke can up and burn that. (make sure it doesn't cut through) Are you going to use a vector image or a bitmap? (Vector is better spend a few hours in corel draw making a new logo if you have too)

Having to upgrade the SIMS database from 2008 lite and was going to purchase a 4 core SQL 2014 license for the upgrade... The issue is that I'm 3 months away from renewal in June. If I add my first SQL licence now I'll have to stump up the full years cost and in June do it again! Can I install SQL 2014 without a license and have it run in some kind of trial mode for 90 days? Then plop a key in later? If I was late with the key would SIMS stop! Ideas?

I've run into various troubles with the DIr sync and the Azure Sync (Went back to dirsync) The best and quickest test is that on the same server that runs dirsync is to perform the MSOL-connect and see if it does... I ran into trouble when it told me to update, (which I did dutifully) and the new connector failed! (I'd foolishly thought it was credentials errors and I was troubleshooting on my workstation not the server)

I'm in a school with 100+ staff and 840+ pupils running sims with lesson monitor, FMS and Discover. I'm running all this on a 2008 server with 2008 express. Now on the face of it looks bad limited to 1 cpu and a gig of RAM but looking at the performance counter the server is hardly doing anything. I'm looking in resource manager, I've filtered the sql services and looking at the 25 current clients they're pulling bytes of data. Even when I run a heavy report in SIMS the disk activity on the server is under 3% the network traffic is still in the Kilobytes. And all that for a few seconds then nothing. People tell me SIMS is slow and I have to buy full SQL if I want it faster... but (AND this is unfounded speculation) is it just bull? is this something capita say about sims to frighten people in to putting up with how slow sims is? spend £xxxx and it'll run faster (knowing schools are cheap and won't do it) anyhow has anyone upgraded to full SQL and noticed night and day differences in performance? As I can't back my claims up.. And is there a better way to assess the SQL work load?

I have 1 teacher who can't see emails sent from contacts outside the organisation whilst using OWA. In their 2010 Outlook all is fine all emails visible. So only in exchange's 2007 owa (now in rubbish mode thanks to ie11) they can only see a list of emails from contacts within the school. The owa inbox count shows the same unread quantity as the full outlook and if I do a search for a particular externally sent email it will show up and can be read from owa. I have pressed every button, looked at all the options, I cannot find a filtering rule or any rules in general that would cause this kind of behaviour? Ideas? (Do I need a PC with ie9 on to set a setting?)

I'm trouble shooting some issues with Direct access (it can't talk to one server 2012?) anyhow during trouble shooting I noticed that I can't ipv6 ping because lookup fails (ping -6) all the servers have self assigned ipv6 address (FE80's). I was about to create a primary reverse lookup zone fe80::/64, just a sanity check really, is this a good idea? (DNS is on 2012R2)
