Urgh, I've run into this a few times now and I have only found one solution...Total reinstall of windows! There has to be a better way... What happens... The laptop will see and use the external display (often seen as digital Television) but this won't appear in the audio device manager. It's not a disabled device either.. In device manager it's doesn't appear as a hidden device. I've tried... Uninstalling the driver (fully including the audio) and reinstalling after a reset. Uninstalling the external monitors from Device Manager. updated with the latest (and some older versions) of Intel's Graphics Drivers (includes the HDMI audio). The it will not appear at all (as an audio device) it's like it doesn't exist. This occurred today as when a teacher first plugged in the hdmi cable windows began installing the audio device but the teacher cancelled the install! (?why?) Ideas? some registry file with devices in it?

argh! is there a GOOD way of changing a users upn? We've had a few typos in the usernames of pupils and I can't fix them, they're now correct in active directory but not in O365. How do I remedy this without deleting /force deleting accounts? cheers

I see my unlimited licenses have arrived in O365 but the new Education plus does not seem to include Onedrive for Business (Plan1) like the old Office 365 ProPlus for Students does? Am I missing something.

Currently emails sent to just 1 school are disappearing with no errors? They don't get them and we get no delivery failure notices (Since A level results day) They've migrated to O365 so it's probably their problem but just to help how do I setup some tracerouted email? both schools me and them have working email in all other aspects.

I've had over heating PCs and bad drives cause errors wouldn't know how to automate a protocol for that. Oh and users who do power off the PC. I hate to admit it but a WDS re-image is so slick now I rarely take the time to troubleshoot. a nearly guaranteed fix with a known time scale is just sweet.

I've had this with various machines over the years. It's WDS being a pain, stop the service and delete the db. you'll start working again with the pending device id's starting at 1 again. VERY SUPER rare (like twice in a decade) it's been a bad gigabit port (one of the pair damaged so it can't work at a gigabit but can at 100 but doesn't PXE gets maddd)

yeah, I've seen this on various PCs. Wake it up with the mouse and I bet the image pops up straight away. I think it's a side affect of ignore mouse movements in power settings.

you can set a DHCP option (on the dhcp server) for it to update the DNS rather than the client. (it's more secure as well)

yes, "USBSTOR\GenDisk" would allow any device with that Id but as no device would only have that singular reference it would still fail to install. Without this no usb storage device could be installed. the same as gendisk and storage/volume, without those the device would install but not mount.

Driver restrictions and windows updates were all left unconfigured.

I was looking at edge switches (L2 managed) and was looking at the Unifi (I have the APs and the free software controller already) so the US-48-500W is a 48 port POE+ switch but it also has 2x SFP+ 10GBit ports. These are only £550 each offer POE and can be centrally managed with no licensing. Also am I right in thinking that SFP+ ports can be copper connected to each other with a specific but simple and inexpensive patch cable?

If I wanted to allow the public to use the Ethernet (?why?) then this is about the best way to label it, Even though it's not accurate. It would seem that the Ethernet is subject to the same login portal as well.

I've added the class ID for the drive "USBSTOR\DiskMBED____DAPLINK_VFS_____0.1_" and the Device ID's (storage and software device) {4d36e967-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} and {eec5ad98-8080-425f-922a-dabf3de3f69a}. I still get my custom Violation warning... I don't know how to troubleshoot the issue? I can't find an event log that says device blah with guid blah was prevented or anything similar? Just that it was blocked by policy....

Argh, I have restricted device installation enabled on all curric PCs. This works well (as devices I don't know can't be installed on Curric PCs.) However I'm supposed to be allowed to add devices that are an exception to this thus the Microbit. I've added a handful of GUIDs and device classes and GPO still insists that the install is blocked by GPO!!! Anyone else have difficulty? or know how to troubleshoot this?

ARGH! I'm always going back a page by accident in IE11 (metro) on a slow tablet that means waiting 30 seconds for it to load the old page and another 10 seconds going back (forward) to where I was!!!!!! I must move my thumb 1/4 of a millimetre left whilst scrolling and it takes me back! It's infuriating! anyway to turn it off?

if you build a windows 2012r2 server you could use dedupe which may reduce the need for so much storage.

I settings rules (in an attempt to get SOLUS 3 working) using the (new to me) Windows Advanced firewall settings under security in the GPO.... I would seem that you can add rules but never change them or remove them... Yes if you edit a rule it'll just stick a new rule on the client duplicating it with the new change. And you can't remove a rule at all. The edits the changes all stay even if the GPO is now blank.... On the client I've tried resetting the policy and the added rules remain and I cannot even remove the rules manually from the client. (gpupdates /force) already applied! How do I clean up my client the smart way?

I have a central store but I think this only affects the rules under admin template right? 2. any how, under windows settings security advance firewall I've decided to add some rules (as the wizard is a little more friendly than the old way). I've made some rules (outbound) then did a gpo refresh on a client they were not there... goin back to the gpedit the rules are not there.... I've done this twice now... The group policy object (in question) is on the sysvol of the pdc (not local) why would it not save the firewall changes?

The mapped drive and parent folder is shared to "everyone" just the way the old boss did it and not really an issue.
