They don't have to. I run them just on a normal additional VLAN and have no issues. However our switches do have a dedicated VOICE Vlan configuration section, but I don't use it. The vast majority of our phones where we use the link through are only used for printers as they are only 10/100 connections and you just tag the switch port to include both VLANs.

We still use ISDN lines into the control unit but have voip phones running over the network VLAN - Siemens Openscape (now Unify) All been running fine for about 5 years now. phones can be POE or with adapter, and also have loopthough network ports for printers/PCs.

I have a free script which changes the default logo screen for our schools logo. I tried various combinations of settings but had to stick with the vbscript, as found when I initially had then in group policy preferences and found it was delaying the users login time.

Would anyone be willing to kindly share their printer script? We moved to Papercut last year and intermittently we've had issues with printers not mapping the first time the users log on , but logging off and back on then pulls the printer in. Tried GPP and currently on VBSCript but still seems unreliable at times.

1&1 will let you transfer your .sch.uk domain as I was told it's not a subdomain as such. I was looking in to it a while ago and they said there would be no issues with getting it moved.

Why not just download the latest trial ISO to play with? It's what I did before going ahead with the purchase. No doubt features have improved/changed as now on version 5, and we've even found some bugs in the software which they have had to tweak within the backend to suit our setup. Cannot fault their support - everytime I have an issue, there is always someone on the end of live chat with teamviewer.

When our Data Manager runs hefty reports which slows the system or stops other users logging in, I have found there to be minimal load on the server resources (disk/CPU usage). Where SIMS falls foul of performance is because it has so many tables and entries which it has to link with/search through so all the data is crossed referenced with several tables so that one table cannot be read in clear text with all the data.

I'm currently testing windows 10 and have 2 policies, 1 for staff 1 for students. When I log on as a student, any desktop shortcuts which have been created in the GPO appear on the desktop with the IE symbol which is how it should be. However, when I log on as a staff member, all desktop shortcuts which have been created in the staff GPO appear with a globe as the icon, and when you double click on them it comes up saying the target "" of this internet shortcut is not a valid and doesn't open. Anyone know what could be causing this, as have no issues with the icons appearing and working when logging on to the windows 7 PCs.

In the GPO for the user accounts, I have a logon script entry which is pointing to \\papercutserver\client\pc-client.exe If it was a permission issue then it wouldn't map at all, but when the user logs off and back on it does then pull in the printer. All clients are Windows 7 x64 and the driver for all printers part of the virtual queue are the same and include both x86 and 64 bit drivers. The PaperCut server is running windows server 2012 R2.

We've had this site in our block list for a while! Started using some regex entries as we've discovered that if you google for index of games swf there are loads of websites where games have been piggy backed on to websites, so I now have a block in place for /games/ etc

Malwarebytes was the first thing I ran on the client it was initiated by, and that didn't pick anything up either.

We got off with it likely last week! One student reported that he couldn't access any of his work and it had all changed to MP3s along with generating the recovery files! Luckily the only data that was affected was his own user space and the shared drive students have access to, so just restored from previous nights backup. Didn't spread anywhere else luckily, but had it been a member of staff it would have affected multiple network drives as encrypted all writable drives only. Source appears to have come from an internet site as he was looking for unblocked games! Our local council got hit with it in Jan, and I know another couple of schools that have had it. Just fortunate ours was on a very small scale. System is quite locked down though, all shares have .exe files blocked along with blocking of zips, exe on removable devices and block exe files running in profiles and temp folders!

SOLUS 3 is installed on the SIMS server, then I have installed just the UI on my workstation so can deploy/manage the remote agents from that rather than having to keep logging on to the server. Reluctant to use SOLUS 3 years ago, but the product seems to have been improved.

We have had a Papercut MF install carried out on a working smooth running network with no link issues. Since the install we have had 2 minor irritations. Firstly every now and again when users login they don't get the PC-Client tray icon. Is it just a change of changing the login script from the pc-client to the cached version, log back on and it will work from the local version from then on? Also we have a virtual printer queue (Follow-Me) that doesn't always map every time. I have tried a range of deployment ways , print management , Group Policy preferences, login script, but still every now and again I get a call from users saying they cannot see the printer. As with both issues, a log off and log restores normal working. Anyone else had this before and found a way to work around it. Papercut tell me it's not a papercut issue and only support the product and not the deployment of it. In my eyes that's half customer service! It's like saying here's a new software product, work out for yourself how to use it.

All Server Rooms have UPS to the core switches and servers . Data cabs located around the site have no UPS, however our admin area does have an UPS to power the POE switch so in the event of a full power cut (as we did last week), the reception/admin phones are still useable during the outage.

Used CA Arcserve for 13 years over several versions to backup to tapes. Just use the basic backup and restore features for day to day file backs etc. Exchange and virtual servers I use the built in Windows Server Backup.

For remote app , I don't recall doing anything special other than selecting explorer.exe when the user logs in, and opens Explorer, it just shows all their normal drives that are mapped when logging into a PC normally. I didn't have to push any UNC paths or anything.

Shouldn't those kind of devices have static IP addresses anyway??! I took over a network that had a print server and all the printers were on DHCP, no wonder the clients were dropping the printers off and not working, printer changed IP but the print server wont automatically update the IP. the only devices I have on DHCP are clients. CCTV, Door Access, Printers, Switches, Servers, iLO, MFPs etc etc are all statics.

Always had HP servers here, and touch wood never a failure, just off HDDs after 6 years in service 24/7. Inherited 1 Dell server and had more issues with several drive failures within the first 3 years to the point they said if they kept failing they would need to send an engineer out to assess the unit.

Still 100% in-house here, Email, Website, Web Filtering. Only Cloud service is mail filtering which then sends the clean mail to our on-site mail server. No plans to go to the cloud for anything and feels more secure having control over everything than relying on third parties.

Hi I have a 2012 R2 server which is the main Domain Controller for the network holding the FSMO roles. I have a login script that tracks user logins by updating text files for the machine/user so can cross match logins and PCs used. Sometimes, when I load the shortcut to browse the unc path \\servername\logon_logs I get a message saying that the path is inaccessible, however the server is still reachable by ping. It only happens occasionally and only noticed whenever I have to access the logs and find that the path is inaccessible. If I try accessing the UNC path a few times, it does eventually go through, and another time when I want to access , the UNC path is accessible instantly so isn't inaccessible all the time. It's driving me a bit mad as to why this would be happening as the server is not dropping off the network or dropping packets according to monitoring software, so seems to be an internal Issue with the server software? If anyone has any ideas or seen this before, any help would be much appreciated. I'm unable to find any monitoring software to monitor the UNC path so I can see when/how often it is inaccessible other than when I try to access the server. I have several other servers of same model and same version support pack installed (as are all HP ML350 Gen servers) that have constant UNC path and none of them have this issue. Unable to find anything in the event logs either.
