What size drives are you using. I've had reliable 300gb drives but are the 600 ones as reliable?

Perhaps we need a 1 : 1 solution whereby all students have their own kb and mouse, but then they would use as an excuse not to do any work if broken etc..

We do this every holiday go round check all rooms and leave in working condition but doesn't last long. we used to have hp sff cases with covers on the back hiding the cables but then they just busted off the clips getting to the cables. we even take projector remotes out classrooms now so they have to borrow and return to us as they go walkabout!

Yep looked on ebay but unable to find! As for the G6 it may be old but still packs performance - I am still running several G6 servers 6+ years old with dual 6 core processors and plenty of RAM and other schools ask me what the spec of our SIMS server is as its fast - what takes them an hour to run, takes our server 10 minutes! They are all running 2012 R2 as well without any issues!

used to, but gave up with it as when keyboards and mice didn't work they would just cut the cable ties and then plug them into the front or another computer! Even bought some netting wrap to bundle all the cables together and tie off at each end but then when they damaged the mice or keyboards it was a PITA to have to change the cables!

Our connection is still with KCOM but moved away from county filter (netsweeper) to censornet. Support is great and had a few minor issues but they are still working on a solution, otherwise a good all round product with just a few minor features it could benefit with having.

Given up here too, but hopefully we will be getting cameras in all rooms but doesn't always work as we have one in the apple mac room but vandalism still occurs so now we just replace them with normal black keyboards and mice! Sent bills home for smashed laptop/netbook screens in the past, but only ever got 1 paid for as the student admitted to smashing it. We spend a fortune in replacement mice and keyboards because they swap the letters, cut through the cables, pull back the mice buttons etc

I have a ML350 G6 server which I have maxed out the 8 drive bays. I am unable to acquire the second drive bay kit as no longer made, but see that there are onboard SATA ports on the motherboard. I can disconnect the DVD drive and connect a Standard SATA drive to the cable and the OS picks it up in disk management no problem. However, if I then add another drive to the second port, or more the single drive from port 1 to any of the other ports, the disk isn't seen in disk management. is there something I have to do to enable the other sata ports to work, so I can expand the number of drives? Also, if I am using the onboard sata ports I assume they will not be hot-swap and if a drive experiences an issue or fails, it may crash the server if it's not removed safely? Appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.

I wouldn't have thought so, as all workstations are on DHCP. Also I removed all DNS entries for the name before re-imaging, rebooted so grabbed a new IP, and it's still got the same computer name as before. All DNS Servers in DHCP are local ones, then forwarders used for internet sites.

Just an update to this - if I re-image the PC and add to the network using the same name , the policy then applies correctly every time. Therefore it is a local machine issue but not sure what else to check /change/delete that would cure this on the other machines....

RSOP is showing that the policy setting is ENABLED. No errors showing in the GroupPolicy event log - all information and shows the policy name in the applicable policies!

Our Repro machine has always been Konica Minolta for speed - chucked out 1,233,360 pages since last august!! We have now also moved from desktop printers to centralised printing and these are Samsung MFPs

I did the update on my S5 last night, must have taken a look 50 minutes or so! Not sure I like it though but hope to improve my battery life since the last update was taking it from 100% charged at 11pm down to 40 by the morning with all data switched off and manually ending the running tasks . I have power save turned on all the time, and on the notification screen, it permanently tells me its on power saving, and when click clear it doesn't clear that message. Also when going to use the phone, not sure I like the fade in time for the screen to come back to life! The old saying, if it aint broke, don't fix it!

yep, all turned on..and the folders are empty. Folders are all the same even on the working clients, there is no registry.pol file

File doesn't exist!

Staff Shared drive - only the IT Team can create the top level folders - departments have their own folder which is locked down to only those in that department, they can do whatever they want inside their department folder. Student shared drive - staff can create top level folders - students can only write to folders inside the ones the teachers make, and can only delete files they have put on there, and no one elses. Works for us and keeps the main number of folders to a minimum

Our school have been through about 4 different systems, currently on Bluesky but as always they are never really suited to support staff!

Hi Just come across an issue after finding out how students are changing some settings. In GPO I have it set so that the users cannot access control panel so should remove the below from the explorer window. Currently I know of 3 PCs of which when the user logs on, the setting is not applied and the button can be clicked and enter control panel. There are also other policy settings that do not apply to these particular PCs - such as accessing UNC paths from the address bar in my computer. If I remove the GPO setting back to not configured, the button appears on all computers. Re-apply the setting and it removes from other computers, but not these ones with the issue! I have 1. Removed from domain, and re-joined 2. check event viewer - says that x number of policies have been applied 3. ran gpupdate /force 4. checked forward and reverse DNS entries - only 1 entry and IP/names match 5. deleted the IP in DHCP, rebooted to get a new address 6. checked GPO management - in one room OU there are 3 pcs out the 26 which the policies do not apply on. As a last resort I was going to re-image the PC, but before I do this, any other suggestions?

Full HP Proliant suite of servers here - all monitored through FREE HP Insight Manager - as soon as a NIC loses connection, PSU fails, HDD fails etc etc I get an email, and shows up in the web interface. Just enabled the onboard NIC as not used to show example. but similar notifications for other component failures. No hot spares, but always have a couple of drives in stock readily available to replace.

I have a startup script that clears all roaming profiles on the C Drive apart from those added as exceptions, i.e Public, Admin, etc. however, I have never found any solution to be 100% effective - I still get the odd workstation where it won't remove the local profile copy, and have to remove manually from Users or from 'profilelist' in the registry when they log on temporary. I also have the GPO set to remove profiles at log off which didn't seem to be as effective on its own without using a script.

Hi Looking for a solution to the following if possible. We are changing email domain, and I will have emails set up on our exchange server so that users can continue to receive mail on both the old and new email domains, but the new domain will be set as primary for sending and reply to. However, despite the number of times you tell users to use the GAL for emailing users internally, they will start typing the name into the to... field and selecting from the list there. When we change, users will continue to do this, which means it will still be going to their old email address, which doesn't matter in a way as they'll still come through on the same mailbox, but is there a way to clear the autocomplete entries for all users, so it can start from scratch rather than each end user having to do this through the outlook options. Thanks.

Hi Does anyone use, or know of any software for sending desktop popup message alerts to end users, and costs? In event of email or internet down, unable to send a message to all users, and even if a service is down, end users don't check their emails before sending me one to say for example the internet is down. Any ideas or useful information would be appreciated. only be used for computers on internal LAN and send message to all logged on users. thanks.

Sounds about right - on our HP servers I usually pay £80 for the cache batteries.

On the staff shared drive, if you are blocking .exe files, how can they still copy exe files to it?!
