RAID 10 is usually good for data backups across 2 drives, but only any good if you can read the drives from the hardware it was set up in. In most cases you wouldn't be able to remove 1 drive from the system and attach it via a caddy to get the data off it. As a professional photographer, I make a robocopy from live system to 1 disk, (only the changed files) , then robocopy from the backup drive to a second drive which is stored in a safe! I can literally then use a external dock or any system to pull of the data if required.

Likewise - They're probably telling you that because they want us to use the features which most education establishments wouldn't use anyway. Why do you need Cortana on a desktop PC in a classroom?!

Our general use camera (still and Digital) is kept with us and loaned out - we always ask for it to be returned to us for downloading so no chances of cards going missing, although one has built in memory. Somehow they did manage to break the tripod! As for departments that have still cameras, the cards do seem to go missing! Same kind of issue we used to have in the early days of whiteboard pens - students would nick the pens for the batteries !

On our Volume Licensing page we are licensed for both education and Enterprise LTSB. education is full of so much rubbish and un-necessary items, i'm thinking odeploying LTSB in the long run if I can ever get the start menu working nicely, but is proving to be difficult.

All working if I stop the primary server! However, just realised the second server certificate is only for 365 days. How do I use the template I duplicated on the primary server with the same validity period? then how do I revoke the old one? Just right click and revoke from the issued certificates on the first server? thanks.

Is there a step by step for doing the certificate side? So that in the event of the primary server going off, clients can continue to authenticate through the second one?

Hi I just assumed that if the client is connecting to a different server it would need a certificate with the second servers name in, so it can authenticate to that one also? Potentially I have 300 wireless devices in AD, but cannot say how many would be in used at any one time.

Can anyone advise on this please? Someone must have multiple RADIUS servers set up for failover/load balancing? Thanks.

When using classis shell is there a reason why you didn't go for LTSB, or why it is easier to go for the other options?

If you think it may be devices that are limiting your upload speed, either get some traffic graph software, or port mirror your broadband port with wireshark, view conversations and see what device is generating the most traffic outbound.

I have a firewall policy on our client PCs that allows the VNC port and PING exception, but ONLY allow our tech PCs to use VNC, so even if a user had a portable app it would fail to connect. For most remote installs I use Remote desktop, but for VNC I have used VNCed MSI Creator - you can build an MSI with the VNC password embedded, then just link it to your computer OUs - at boot up it will install silently and start the service. Works just as well on Windows 10 also without needing to update vnc version.

I'm having another go at trying to create a positive windows 10 image. I have imaged 10 Pcs onto windows 10 education along with the deployment of the classic start menu. To get rid of apps and other gumf that comes with it, I have now made a fresh image of windows 10 LTSB to remove most the rubbish and NOT installed classic shell. After I joined to the domain using exsting names, the start menu then breaks and doesn't come up, but if I add as a new computer to the default pc OU it works. However, is there a definitive guide for the windows 10 start menu? Is it possible freely to customise the start menu that WILL roam with all users for whichever computer they log on to/ If so, please could it be linked so I can get a working roaming start menu solution without the need for classic shell? I'm on the latest release freshly downloaded from Volume licensing site. Thanks.

Hi I'm wanting to set up a secondary RADIUS NPS server for failover/redundancy /load balancing and know that I will also need certificates on the clients to allow authentication against the different server name. However, when setting up the second server do I set it up as another ROOT CA or SUBORDINATE CA? Also, if i'm putting both radius servers into the wireless APs will it only use the secondary one if the primary is unreachable? If I don't have an NPS proxy, but just the 2 servers, can I still configure load balancing between the 2 from within the NPS configuration? Thanks.

Not really - you can have servers anywhere on your network providing you've got enough bandwidth back to the core. Also, just means if you lose the link from new server location to core, you'll be a bit stuck! That's why I always have our servers connected straight into the core, although these days a new Top of rack model, means that you connect servers to just normal gigabit switches, then uplink from those to your Core, and the core is just for links to access switches.

Hi I set up a Certification Authority server for NPS/RADIUS some time ago, but haven't used for a few years. I've now come to use the set up for wireless. However, on clients I see 2 certificates for 2 servers i.e NPS-001 and NPS-002 and clients seem to have both of these in the local trusted store. However 001 no longer exists. If I do a certutil it only shows 002 as being active and in AD is only the 1 server under the certificate authority servers. I've checked all GPOs and I cannot find any policy which has these 2 certificates in for deployment to clients. If I delete both, put the workstation on workgroup, then add back to the domain, on first login, both appear. Please could you someone help me as I only need the 002 certificate and it seems the system is pushing out both?? Any certificate experts that can help me please? thanks.

I added the user account to 'Domain Computers' then after entering the username and password, it worked. This also works on a workgroup computer if the certificate is install and can enter the user name and password. However, when these credentials are used to login to the wireless on a ios device, there isn't any way to retrieve the username and password is there? So there isn't much of a security concern here for someone to find out the details??
