The users are able to run exe files from network shares, but obviously only those that we have put there by the users coming through us to copy them over of which I have to disable the FSRM rule temporarily whilst I copy over. They will need to copy to several folders so excluding one wouldn't be an option. I am thinking more on the client end, that if they ran an exe off a network share this could propagate and create additional exe files. In addition, the AV on the server is also set to block remote creation of exe files, so protected in all ways. We've had about 3 instances of Crytolocker but it has only affected that individual users space and created html and txt files, due to the tight restrictions, and therefore only had to restore the single user area from the night before, so what I have in place has been beneficial.

Hi Looking for some advice what to do in this situation. I have 2 policies in place: - Removable drives, blocking of copying or opening ZIP or executable files which can be released per user, rather than per computer so can be excluded if necessary for that user. - FSRM - blocking .exe files on a shared drive - to protect from cryptolocker and other viruses creating executable files. However, I have a member of staff who wants to copy several resources from their USB drive to the network drives. Other than unchecking the block .exe files from FSRM whenever they want to copy the files across, is there any other way around this?

When I used to do SIMS upgrades through SOLUS 2, rather than putting in to single user mode, I use to disable the TCP connection option with the SQL Configuration manager - this meant that only the server could only connect to the database, and no clients.

Same here, then if you delete/add any shortcuts to the redirected desktop , the immediately change on the students desktop without needing to log off or back on.

Hi What D-Link APs were you using? We seem to have the same issue here, getting the odd drives which don't map. Think might put a case in to D-Link if it's definitely their AP issue.

All our Servers have Dual PSU - One is connected to the UPS, the other direct to mains - PSUs set as load balancing. Both UPS and Mains connections are fed from different Distribution boards.

Everything blue apart from the 1 PSU LED which is amber. Dell OpenManage shows everything as green ticks. It's the only Dell server I have so not sure on the load sharing, and not looked round the back for a long time so couldn't tell you if it's always been like it or not!

How do you force the updates? I thought they would only install at the specified time through GPO or when the PC is shutdown?

We have Paxton Net2+ System here. Whilst we used it for door access, we didn't have the car readers fitted to our MFPs purely for the fact that only staff use door cards, not students. However, we were advised that we could have card readers fitted that would read the cards. The only issue I have had before with buying the physical cards is that we once bought some NOT from Paxton. Whilst advertised as genuine Paxton cards we ended up with some card numbers being duplicated or cards not working. Having given them the number on the front of the pack they turned out to be different types of cards, not compatible with the net2, so just ensure you are buying genuine cards and you should be ok.

We bought a Radvision XT1000 several years ago, Cost £5000+ from what I remember. used to use it with Leicester space centre and now it's pretty much a door stop!

The front LED is happily displaying the server name, and even the little external LED cable that plugs in to the back of the server is glowing a pretty Blue!! hence the confusion!

Hi I inherited a Dell R515 Server after a merge, as everything else I have is HP and despite several HDD failures, it's been a good server performance wise. I noticed today after going round the back of the cab that 1 of the PSUs has an Amber light, the other is Green. However, within the Dell management software it is showing both PSUs as good! Without putting the plug on the green PSU to test if it is actually working, do I just get a replacement for it?? Anyone else had experience with these Dell Servers and any other ways to check the PSU health, as nothing in the logs. Thanks.

I've had about 3 reports from users in the past with these kind of error messages appearing when they first login. It's usually because malware hasn't been able to successfully run, causing a partial install. The way I sort it is by scanning the machine with malwarebytes which usually finds nothing at all, but then I search the registry for the file name which usually returns it in the run location of the users profile, so I just delete the key and it stops the error appearing.

Still running an on-site exchange server, currently 2013 and shall go to 2016 in a few years - no intention of changing to 365. Get so much more control and options, and if it goes down (not that it ever has) I can start work on fixing it straight away, rather than waiting for MS

Agreed - if you look in the business environment, you're either in a specific application part, or you have to work under someone else or part of a very large team all doing the same thing across sites!

I don't have any experience with smoothwall. However, I add the MAC addresses into an 'Staff/Student' iPad (computer) policy group, so it doesn't matter what IP they have, then the relevant group gets assigned the student/staff policy. When I run a report, I just run it by the device name, you cannot see which user it was, but the filter report date/time should be enough to find who was using it in what class at the time if anything shows in the reports of concern.

Thanks - but I don't sync our AD accounts with classroom as it's only for small number of groups so the accounts were imported by the template on the admin side. it is just the classroom App on the iPad which isn't logging in, but accepts the username and password, then just comes up with an error.

We have staff that open XML files from SIMS, both data and letters, which are excel or word. However in SIMS they are stored as XML files, so we associate say the letters with word so automatically opens. However, if they then have data we have to re-associate to excel. How do you manage this with your end users? do you train them to save the files first, then right click OPEN with and choose the program they want?? By default Word and Excel don't appear in the open with list so have to navigate through the c drive to the office App initially. Just looking for an easier way to manage this.

How many do you have and what will be done on them that would require imaging rather than setting up individually? AS for the internet, can you not add them to a device group (rather than user) and then assign the filtering policy to that group? It's what I do with our iPads.
