Currently switches are manually configured with all necessary VLANs and ports changed to match the device on the end of the port for VOIP, Door Access, CCTV etc. Is there any way that switches can be configured so that if the device is moved socket locations say in an office that the switches can pick up the devices MAC address and automatically assign the port to the VLAN? If not, is there any other way to dynamically work with VLANs rather than requiring manual intervention from devices move location?

I just hope we never go down that route! we cannot even trust Staff with them!

I have just tried the settings and they now appear to be working again. Changed the profile and apps are changing on the ipad when checking in!

I deleted and removed all profiles and devices then created a new profile and edited the settings, but they still didn't save so I don't believe it would be to do with the ios version? - - - Updated - - - I deleted and removed all profiles and devices then created a new profile and edited the settings, but they still didn't save so I don't believe it would be to do with the ios version?

I have a set too, hence when I noticed it! I contacted support and apparently it has been reported and the engineers are working on it but had no update since!
-
Do it need to be a Mac server to create it or how do you create it from an iMac/MacBook as assume you have to make a mobileconfig file somehow to then import into the meraki interface?
-
Do you need a MAC to do that? It was working but now that wanted to set up some additional profiles the settings no longer seem to save.

Hi It's always been the NM who has been in charge of the CCTV here especially now it's an IP CCTV system. Site staff have been shown how to use it should it be needed outside my working hours but they always end up coming to me if the need any footage. usually if I have to supply any footage to the police it goes in an evidence bag and have to sign your life away on it!

Hi I'm setting up a Cisco Meraki network from the management site to manage a small number of iPads. I have created a Profile and edited the settings. if I untick a couple of options or even one such as camera, or facetime and click SAVE it says the changes are saved. However, if I go back into the settings the tick has re-appeared. Anyone know why or whether there is currently any issues with the system?? Thanks.

I assume that you can only move back to a 1 year agreement after the 3 years is up? Did you have to specifically specify you wanted 1 year only? I don't know why we got put on a 3 year when changed reseller! They must have just assumed!
-
Even when I asked the suppliers they all double checked and were telling me that each other hadn't been working with Microsoft long enough and what they were telling me was 100% true!!
-
Hi We changed MS reseller last year and turns out we were then on a 3 year MS contract , however prior to that we were on a 1 year contract. The time has come to renew and been asked for our quantities, but now is the issue: Some suppliers have told me that at the anniversary date you CAN go lower than your initial FTE count, but others tell me that during the 3 years you cannot go lower than what you initially took the contract out at. Can anyone shed some light on this as I don't know which one is telling porkies! Obviously if it's a 1 year contract you can go up or down (and this is what MS documentation states), but if you are on a 3 year, can it or can it not go below the count taken out in the first year?

[ipad] Meraki MDM & Permissions not working
ITGURU replied to ITGURU's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
It appears to be enabled by default, but if I remove the profile I don't get a notification. However if I go into the device itself - it does show in there that the profile has been removed. Any ideas? Thanks. -
[ipad] Meraki MDM & Permissions not working
ITGURU replied to ITGURU's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thanks for this useful information - I'll have to look into DEP. You don't know off hand where the setting is to email in the event of profile removal do you? Be something that's helpful in the mean time. Thanks. -
Hi I have been playing with the free Meraki MDM functionality and seems to work great. However, one issue - the user can go into settings, profile, and remove the profile - it prompts them for the own personal Pin code. However, within the profile settings next to removal settings, I have it set to 'require password to move this profile' and a different password to the users password. Can someone tell me why it is allowing the profile to be uninstalled with the users password, rather than the password I have configured. Thanks.

Hi I'm in the process of trialling a new proxy solution and have changed the proxy server in the policy using the registry settings part, and also have a IE 10 policy created although we are on IE 11. With the old settings never had any issues, the computers would always use the new proxy. However, if I do a GPUPDATE /FORCE the new settings get applies (confirmed though lan settings), but after a period of time it seems to revert back to the old settings... if I do gpupdate again, it changes to the new one as it should. I've even create a brand new settings policy and removed the old one but still seems to be the same. is there a different way to deploy IE11 proxy settings other than registry, as with later systems IE maintenance is no longer part of the policy. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

On that note we do have a few Mac's in an IT suite that were recommended to us, but then they were only set up for dual boot and ever used on windows.. so what cost would I be looking at? Can it be Mac Mini or something for running os x server?

I am anti-Mac , however the school are looking to bulk buy some iPads for classroom use. We have half a dozen which all use the same apple id to keep things simple, and just download/buy the free apps as necessary, but users can download free apps etc as they wish. With the intention of a set being purchased I want to find a simple management tool to be able to manage the ipads. I need to be able to: Stop users downloading free Apps from the AppStore, but allow us tech's to download and install new Apps also purchase apps. be able to track the ipads.. we've had some go "missing" in the past. From what I recall you could prevent access to AppStore, but then you would have to change settings, and check in the ipad so it then gave access again to download apps. I used to use Meraki but couldn't get the hang of it and seemed a bit complex. Are there any other free solutions out there worth looking at ? If people could let me know how they do it in a school environment I would be grateful for any advise prior to these being purchased! Thanks.

So basically the use of the SIMSINST.exe is now redundant even on new installs? New way is to deploy the agent and SIMS that way? SOLUS 2 was so much better!
-
Yes, I sent instructions to staff about how to use the solus 3 agent to check for updates if the computer was off at time of the update so desktops are fine. It's just the laptops...is there a guide somewhere about deploying the agent through GPO...and I assume you would have to add the laptop to the UI first as unlike WSUS it won't auto-register the computer against the SOLUS 3 interface? Whats the easiest solution for me, other than waiting for staff to complain then having to manually deploy the agent then update..
-
Hi Looking for some advice/suggestions here! I have always liked SOLUS 2 for updating SIMS - updating the server, then any client can double click SIMS, runs the update then login and continue as normal - ALL GOOD! I had the SOLUS 3 agent on all desktops PCs and rolled out the Autumn 2015 update using SOLUS 3 interface only. usually I would run SOLUS 2 to update the system, then run SOLUS 3 so that laptops that aren't always connected to the network can update when launched. This worked reasonably well. I asked staff that use their laptops for SIMS to bring in and been ignored! So now I get staff coming in to say why won't SIMS work as when they launch it says 'incompatible database'. I can then deploy the solus 3 agent, do a check for updates, and then it will install the new release. HOWEVER, even if I do a manual re-install of SIMS it appears to only update to the SUMMER release which is the last one I ran through SOLUS 2 AND Solus 3. I would have thought that if I was installing SIMS onto a new workstation that the installations files should be up to date?? If not, does this mean that any computer that will run SIMS HAS to have the agent installed to push the SIMS update to the PC rather than installing through the simsinst.exe Thanks in advance!

We used to be completely shut end of term which meant 8 days of our annual entitlement was already taken out the quota. However, the last few years it has been opened a few extra days up to Christmas so that staff can come in and use less of their entitlement. As a NM you never know when you need to be in, for example I had booked the last day of term off to take an extra day's holiday only to be called in yesterday so it's all swings and roundabouts.

I'd suggest 2 reasons behind the issue: Incorrect tagging so doesn't save OR A firmware issue - so check on the latest. Over the years I have discovered minor firmware issues which have resulted in being send an updated version with fixes.

With doing photography and being a network manager most of my time is spent in front of a screen! Most the time I have my monitor brightness and contrast right down so it's just readable but if doing any image work I have to temporarily increase the brightness or it's just dark, then I can only cope with it for an hour or so before it makes my eyes strain. People come in the office at work and say why is your monitor so dark, so I just explain I cannot work with bright screens. Got my first pair of glasses 11 years ago, but mainly for night time driving only. I don't wear them at work. I have check ups every 2 years and they have never changed! Optician always says how surprised they are considering the amount of screen work I do!

I do photography and for my speedlight flashes I've always used the following batteries and seem to last ages! For Rechargeable batteries - GP Recyko For Standard Batteries - Duracell ProCell Both in bulk off ebay - the Recyko batteries don't lose charge over time. keep 85% charge after 12 months.
