Public folders have always been 1 thing I never looked forward to when decommissioning exchange servers. Luckily we never used them as such but always had the database there. From what I recall in the last migrations, you need to check that all replicates have been moved over to the exchange server. Unfortunately, I don't have the powershell commands still to hand but it usually ended up being the system folders left over that wouldn't let me uninstall the role. There were some powershell commands which forcefully removes the system folders NON_IPM _SUBTREET, Free/Busy Info etc.... Once I'd done that it let me remove the role without any issues. I was always able to find the solution by googling migrating public folders or removing last public folder database to find the solution to this issue.

Your Windows and Office keys are installed onto the KMS Server Host and a record created in DNS. Your clients will then find the KMS server through the service location record to activate automatically. For Office you need a minimum of 5 clients checking in before they will all say activated, or 25 windows clients. If your staff are taking laptops home, it will work fine for a duration before saying it needs re-activating. It won't stop them using it, it will just keep bugging them. Our policy is staff should bring them in at least once a month to keep activated, get approved windows updates, flash updates etc. Alternatively, you can use MAK keys on the laptops.

I thought we used the internet a lot but we have 1200 devices, 1400 users, 100 meg broadband and at peak usage we hit an average of 40mb on our 100meg circuit.

Only time we found this was if the wireless couldn't cope with the number of clients. A class of 30 would try logging on, first 10 or so would get on straight away, the others would receive "no logon servers available" and have to keep trying and eventually get on. After an upgrade of wireless points we can now get 30 on just, with the odd one that doesn't map the drives, but if log off and back on they then get it. As far as I know the "always wait for network...." just means it won't log on cached without running the Group policies. I have our policies set to 0 logons to cache, so that clients always have to wait for it to see the network before logging on.

Does it have HDMI to try with a laptop?

Whilst I've never carried out an upgrade between OS's and always installed from clean, we've had several staff come to us that have upgraded their home PC/Laptop to Windows 10 and experienced issues. 2 managed to wipe their entire machine - not sure how! 1 upgraded to windows 10 and the start menu no longer worked 1 had graphic driver issues. 1 upgraded to 10 and all the desktop icons disappeared.

If you are connecting the PC / laptop straight to a projector it will detect a different resolution to when connected to a PC monitor. therefore, when it's connected to the projector have you gone into the graphics properties to check it's at the same settings as when attached to a monitor.

When you do through the management console I think you can only set it to forward to one user/group. 2 options here depending on your setup. Create a new distribution group containing both the CPStaffs Distribution group members AND the other user, and set this as the group to forward to. or If the CPDS is a user, you could log on as this user, open up outlook and create rules to send the message to all the necessary users. In the properties of the mail account in the exchange console there is a mailflow option. From in there you can select an email address to forward any emails to and also choose whether to deliver to the main mailbox as well or just where the copy is sent to. I think you may also be able to do the same using transport roles.

The last time I reported performance issues to capita they told me to run both patch 14265 and also 15589

Update will be done on the last week of term like to let everyone else find the issues before we upgrade, especially after the dot net issue earlier this year when an MS update broke the date picker

Years gone by when we had 3 servers it was a small cupboard in our office. when we expanded the false wall was changed and now is a large cupboard at the bottom of our office across the whole width.it's the only way in. still small for the kit we have but laid out so you can gain access to each server if needed to pull out for any reason as we are all towers. Not much floor space though. room is about 3m*3m with core switches and 12 servers. 2 air con units. Only go in there minimum once a day to change backups.

Each year for our new intake I just do it manually 260 user accounts - doesn't take long as at all just to copy a user account template (that creates their home directory with all relevant permissions and user groups anyway) then run a powershell script to bulk create the email boxes. Job done. Be different if doing bulk accounts monthly but have a set process each year which incorporates the above.

Hi We are in east Midlands and currently use KCOM/emPSN along with LCC for filtering. However, due to decline in server reliability and customer service we are moving over to Censornet in-house for both web and email filtering. We will be staying on the emPSN network, however I don't know what the cost for the connection is as not paid directly out of the schools budget, but may be due to change in October 2016. We are on a 100meg fibre circuit (symmetrical) and last time I got a quote it seemed expensive, but as I say until next year I don't know what KCOMs price will be in comparison.

I'm Using CA Arcserve, and was previously. The NICS are teamed in Server 2012 R2 (4Gbps bandwidth) I have also tried LACP and static teaming but never really concluded much difference between them in terms of bandwidth. If the switch supports LACP & Static Teaming, is there a best option to get the maximum available bandwidth?

We currently take both connection and filtering from the LA. However, next year I am moving filtering away from them and going in-house keeping the connection through emPSN. Yje majority of issues we ever have are LA Proxy servers, and not emPSN/KCOM. We have a 100meg symmetrical circuit and to take the connection on from another supplier is not cost effective and within budget so we'll be staying with them for now. Our daily average broadband speed at peak times is 40-50mb/s . I got a quote for the bottlerocket which was way out of our price range, so going with Censornet. Capital bytes was the cheapest option but just an updated version of the netsweeper we currently use.

Just purchased a brand new LTO-6 tape drive along with HBA to consolidate the use of 3 backup tapes into 1. The majority of data (800GB/s) is on a single server and previously I could get this backed up in 4 hours. With the New LTO-6 backup system it takes 7 hours to backup the same 800GB data so by the time I've added in the data from the other 2 backup drive sources (totalling around 1.2TB it's taking over 14 hours. Over the network the throughput is 1.440.41 MB/minute - just wondered if this is as expected. Both the source server with the 800GB data and the backup server with the LTO drive have 4 x 1GB connections teamed. Just wondered if this transfer speed is as expected for files servers with general day to day small files such as office, pdf, etc. As I was backing up 800GB in 4 hours, (finishing at 1am) it would give me plenty of time to add on the other sources but appears taking longer than I expected. What throughput does anyone else get on LTO tape backups when backing up over the network? If I backup a single remote file of several GB i.e SQL database the speed it ridiculously fast - 4,000MB/Sec. I know smaller files are meant to take longer but didn't know it 1.440.41MB is what is expected?

DB size is 8.5GB , log file 700mb. Never have had a large log file as carry out full sql backups daily and whenever I've truncated the log file manually, it's never had any effect on the system.

I've just received a very authentic looking SPAM email claiming to be from Google! However, as soon as I clicked the link and it went to http :// googleconfirm .org (spaces add to prevent resolution) I knew it was suspicious! Looks very genuine to the casual user who may receive it.

The majority of issues occurred when we merged with another school. I don't delete anything within SIMS - my job is to ensure SIMS is running and set up new users and remove old users. I have no dealings with the modules within SIMS. There are specific members of staff who are trained in the relevant modules.
