Why? We have a few servers, switches, SAN etc with static IPs but rely on DHCP for everything else. It's worked reliably thus far. Our other printers work fine with host names. The MFD devices were configured in Papercut by host name so I don't see why there should have been an issue. DHCP takes care of updating DNS. --

Hi all, may be of use to someone in the future.. We normally leverage DHCP & DNS wherever possible but with the MFDs connected to Papercut, we've had to switch to static IPs. Since they arrived we had the odd instance of a device showing a connection error but it got to the point where 2 or 3 devices became disconnected every day. I'm not sure what the root cause is.. I trust our DHCP and DNS config; I could ping the hostname and clients could print direct but Papercut thought the devices were disconnected. Switching to static IPs seems to have improved matters!? Quick update.. We now have the iOptions interface on the Develop/Konica machines - cost was £850 for 7 devices and included additional memory for each device. The major improvement over the previous papercut interface for us is that the list of 'follow me' print jobs are listed as soon as you log in, without having to select a department. Apart from a few teething troubles the machines seem ok and we're saving money. Print volume is down and the weekly reports automatically emailed to department heads seems to have helped to. Seb1780 - we were quoted £327 for an embedded papercut license and this included 3 years support. --

Our solution is quite convoluted but works well and is part of school policy for managing behaviour. Using PHP we pull out the timetable from SIMS and present this on a webpage to staff as a bit of a class toolkit. One of the tools, next to each students name is an 'On Call' button. Clicking this does various things, one is send several emails, another is pass arguments to, and execute a batch file. Using PHP, after much trial and error we settled on psexec to run the batch file. In our case we actually send the message to 6 PCs and fire off an email too. The admin staff use radios to contact the designated on-call SLT bod. Only problems we have are staff who 'forget' radios and un-official room changes so on-call bod is directed to the wrong room. To get the msg command to work, on the target workstation,n we had to add a value, AllowRemoteRPC as REG_DWORD, value 1 to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server --

Hi all, to update.. The supplier have been back in and installed the card readers. The machines also now display info about empty paper, jams and incorrect paper sizes. It's possible this was happening before but these were either timing out or being cancelled by another user. We were advised our machines would need a memory upgrade for iOptions so we've ordered that and the iOptions interface. Thanks.

Thanks all for the info. Paid_Peanuts - sounds interesting. I would be interested to see a pic of the iOptions screen and do you know a rough cost? Pete / Techmonkey, agree the 'Auto charge to single account' works better but many of our users currently print for more than dept and so for them we use the 'show standard account popup'. I haven't contacted Papercut yet as everything is mostly working. The supplier is coming in this week but I like to be prepared to avoid the fob off. I'll post back any progress. Thanks again. --

Hi all, As a cost cutting exercise, both in terms of leasing and consumables, over the Christmas break we ditched our Ricoh kit and installed 8 new Konica Copiers and upgraded Papercut NG to MF. Everything is working of a fashion and the reporting is excellent but the integration of Papercut with the copiers is horrible to use. Lots of niggles but the two main issues (so far) are.. 1) We're set for department printing, not charging individual users. It's cumbersome to login to a copier. Far too many steps / key presses required. Each user in Papercut is assigned a default department and this is recognised on the Papercut client on the PC but not on the copier.. it has to be selected every time. Card readers are on order that work with our ID badges but this will only solve part of the problem. 2) We have a virtual 'Follow me print & release' queue and physical queues on PCs sited near a copier. When printing direct to a copier, there is no indication on the copier screen of what's happening. For example, on the old Ricoh, if there was a job sent in US Letter instead of A4, it was easy to fix, now only the login screen is displayed. Such jobs disappear into the ether but the dept is charged. Does anyone have experience of Konica / Papercut integration? Does Papercut integrate with other kit any better? Are there better solutions out there? Many thanks in advance. --

Thanks for that. I had another go, same result. Yes, installed 2013 SP1 before the upgrade, only on the test server. Installed ok. I'll have abash with a new R2 VM and fresh install of 2013 SP1. Thanks. --

Has anyone upgraded Server 2012 to R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 installed? If so, did all go smoothly? Tried this on a test server with a couple of databases and mailboxes. I stopped Exchange services before running the upgrade (perhaps I should have disabled services also?). No AV or DAG to worry about. Post upgrade to R2 I was unable to mount any of the databases; they were showing 'dirty shutdown'. Esentutl /r fixed one empty database, no help with the other 2.. various errors about missing logs and checkpoints. Using the /p switch, the database returns to clean shutdown, mounts then immediately dismounts and goes back to dirty shutdown. I'm going to have another go but would welcome any tips if I'm missing something. Thanks. --

May help someone in the future.. IE11 failing to install on Windows 7 via WSUS - error 80070005 Error was caused by Sophos automatically adding IE 11 to the list of blocked browsers in App Control policy! --

I'm about to undertake the same task, albeit to a new server. I believe the migration utility will install SQL2012 express or you can install the full version it yourself. I'm going for the latter. I've installed SQL2012 on the new box and selected only the database engine, full text search and management tools. Only problem I came across with the installation was the need for .Net 3 to be installed beforehand. I installed a named instance, SIMS2012 with mixed mode authentication and set a password for the sa login and this instance is on a separate disk to the os and shared SQL components. On the Windows firewall, I've opened port 1433 TCP and 1434 UDP and added the .exe for the sql browser and sql server. Management Studio connects ok from a remote pc. Next step for us is to install SIMS on the new server once capita send me a link to the ISO for the latest installer. You won't need to do this as you're upgrading. I seem to recall the redirection feature didn't work the last time we tried this and we had to manually edit the sims and fms connect.ini files and reconfigure the Document Storage folder. Obviously make sure you have good backups before you start! Good luck. --

I couldn't get ghost to work reliably so took the plunge with ADK (Windows Assessment & Deployment Kit). From this, I've used DISM and Diskpart successfully to image Windows 8 with UEFI. When creating the partitions on the target machine, I had to convert the disk to GPT for UEFI to work. Our Diskpart commands below.. select disk 0 clean convert gpt create partition efi size=100 format quick fs=fat32 assign create partition msr size=128 create partition primary format quick fs=ntfs assign list vol exit The list vol before exit is handy for displaying current volumes before imaging.
