We dont use a proxy here (yet) so that's not the issue. I logged on to the server with an admin account and did the download from there so you're right that it's a permission thing, just not sure what I need to do to get it to work when I open the console on my PC rather than the server directly.

Never used SCCM for Windows Updates before so I thought I'd give it a go and on my first attempt to download a software update I get an error! Windows Updates on the server itself work OK but I was wondering if SCCM gets the updates from a different URL or something that I need to unblock on our web filter or something or is it something else I'm doing wrong?!

I've had this in the past and I now make sure if I deploy something I deploy it twice, once to 'known computers' (i.e. a group I've created in SCCM that they are part of) and also to 'unknown computers' just in case SCCM gets confused or throws a wobbly.

We use them for SIP lines to our internal phone system and have done for around 4-5 years now. I dont recall having any issues with the actual SIP lines - they are as reliable as your Internet connection is so when we've had issues with the Internet not working the SIP lines may also stop working but that's not the SIP lines fault. You just have to remember that if you're fault finding an issue with the internet and need to 'turn if off and back on again' that this will affect anyone on an external call when you do it. For us they were/are a lot cheaper than ISDN lines so we're not looking at changing them any time soon.

A lot of our staff laptops do not have TPM chips. We dont user a PIN or a USB stick. We encrypt them with BitLocker and use a password - you have to set a security policy (if I remember correctly) to enable this option and each Teacher that doesnt have a TPM chip in their laptop uses this method. So far no problems! As we integrate it with AD when we have had to remove a HDD from a laptop to recover data etc. we just put in the recovery key and then we can access it! All good so far.

We love the Flex cases - especially the tamper-proof cable thing at the rear - no more chasing the broken keyboard/mouse around the room as the faulty one constantly gets swapped around for a working one from another PC!

We have a wireless link between two buildings that cost us around £600 and it goes up to 8Km. We put it up ourselves and it's been OK. Admitedly our buildings are less than 1/2 a mile apart but it can be used for a lot more. It's around 150Mbps so not the speed you're after but my point is there must be some similar links that are faster and go that sort of distance. The frequency it uses (and we checked this with OfCom) doesnt require us to get a wireless license so no messing about with that. It's a Deliberant unit but they have now been taken over by LigoWave so our model isnt on their site any more, but this is the closest to what we have: https://www.ligowave.com/products/ligodlb-mach-5-ac This one goes up to 12Km which is about 7.45miles There as signal bar indicator (like you have on your mobile) and we just got on the roofs where we installed them and just roughly pointed them at each other (we have a couple of trees in the way but they are designed to deal with that using, well magic) and you wiggle one until you get the strongest signal and then you wiggle the other one and then you get a good signal linking the two buildings together.

That's the one I was on about! Just couldnt recall what it was called. We had to ensure ours were in excess of 500MB (we found 1GB) stopped any similar errors occorring. We had to use some partitioning software on our Hyper-V Hosts that VMs were being backed up on to change to 1GB and then the errors went away.

More importantly how much space in the hidden partition that the backups use? We had to increase ours (on new installs obviously) to 1GB instead of 350MB as we found out WSB snapshots used that part of the hard disk to do it's backups.

For us we found SB were the same price as everyone else who quoted so as they were our ISP at the time we went with them for our EAD link. For the actucal amount it will cost you depends on the distance the cable needs to go. The distance and how many roads the link would cross has also to be taken in to consideration for the installation time as the provider (for example BT) has to get permission from your local council pretty much every step of the way and that can be the biggest hold up to any ETA's you're given for installation times.

I recently installed Concrete5 (a CMS website builder) on CentOS 7 with step-by-step instructions so I think it's best to stick with CentOS 7 rather than another flavour of Linux. I guess what I'm after now is any system status software that has instructions for CentOS 7?!

Be careful with this one as a lot of the ones with sockets like that, not all are connected to the UPS battery, some are just for surge protection only.

That's pretty much what ours has been like for months and months on 1 200Mbps 1:1 leased line. At the moment we have 95Mbps spare (speedtest) which is OK as I could very well believe we're using 105Mbps but 70Mbps upload meaning 130Mbps currently being used doesn't make sense.

I love how people think that by searching Google you'll get the best thing listed first! Word of mouth is always better - if it wasnt this forum would not exist and we'd all just search Google and end up with a mess. If people send me links to LMGTFY then they go to the bottom of the pile! You may not need a phone with an actual button - a lot of phone systems have that feature and you have to enter a Feature Code on the phone to turn it on/off so it might be worth looking at your phone system itself for a solution.

Because I'm not a web developer hence why I'm looking for something that has already been created that I can either integrate in to my current site or link to etc.

Hi! I'm looking to add a systems status page to our internal Intranet page so I'm looking for something free or Open Source. I like what Cardiff University have on their website but I'm guessing it's something they've written themselves - https://status.cardiff.ac.uk/ Anybody here use a systems status system or do you just update a web page with text saying if there's any systems that are down?

I've have a CentOS server hosting an internal only website that I want to restrict access to so that only members of the Staff OU in Active Directory can access it. I'm going to guess that I need to somehow join or link this server to our windows domain by installing something and then I'll need to do some jiggery-pokery with some files somewhere so that only users that are a member of the Staff OU can access it? I've been using Linux (CentOS 7) for a total of 5 days now, mostly of which has been reinstalling it over and over again correcting previous mistakes and copying and pasting commands from installation guides in to a command line! I'm on a very sharp learning curve at the moment!
