Do you "press any key" to boot from the USB memory stick? If so (then this might sound strange but it happens on a couple of our servers here), dont press any key - instead wait for it to ask the question again and then press any key! Of course, if it only asks you the once then this wont help, but I've seen this on a couple of servers here where it asks you the question twice (in two different screen resolutions as the font size changes the second time) so it's clearly in some sort of different 'mode'.

I'd say it's more of an eSafety thing than GDPR.

We just use SCVMM to monitor our Hyper-V VMs - for example it tells you if you need to assign more RAM or if you've assigned too much RAM so you can make adjustments.

I've got a HP LaserJet P2055n that has plenty of paper in the paper tray (tray 2) and the 'sensor' on the front of the paper try rises correctly to report that there is paper in the tray yet on the display of the printer it says No Paper. The tray doesnt look broken and I cant see anything amiss underneath the printer. Anybody know where the paper sensor is so I can see if it needs cleaning/fixing etc? I've looked in service manual but cant seem to find it.

Sounds like you need to build your relationship with the NM you manage so you can talk to them about the issues and what you can do to improve them rather than spending upwards of £800 per day for a network audit (which would take several days to complete) and if you have that sort of money you could buy more/better network switches, cabling etc.

That's what we use. During the working day the power management on our computer suite PC's is set so to High Performance so they stay on all the time and then after hours any left on go to Power Saver where they go to sleep. If you dont want to use SCCM you could always put a shutdown script on the computers in the Task Scheduler set to run at a particular time of day maybe?

If (like us) you use Snipe-IT then you need to ensure you implement an SSL certificate on the server so you use https instead of http.

We use SCCM, it doesn't kick the current user off - obviously this only works internally.

We tried these many years ago and as they are held on by a double-sided sticky tab they are very easy to remove (by design so you can change the batteries) they soon went walkies!

Personally I'd take it apart and see if there's a part number on the screen. The main reason it's Beyond Economical Repair is due to labour costs so if you do it yourself it's just the cost of the part - assuming you're OK with replacing the part that is?!

I'd say it's covered by the C part of ICT. As others have mentioned, your Finance department is the starting block they'll know what bills you have had over the last year and phone numbers etc. should be listed on them. You can then cross reference them with what you've found and you should then know what is left (if anything) to find.

I like the Acer Spin series of devices. I've got a Spin B1 Celeron one that is purely used for going around and keeping auditing and PAT testing records which is just via a URL so it's really good at that but I think it would be a bit slow if I put Office on it. The faster (proper) processor ones (Acer Spin 3 or 5) are pretty much the same as the B1 but have proper i3 or i5 CPUs with varying screen sizes depending on which model you choose.

We use https://tapelabel.de/ and print on to quality sticky paper and then use a guillotine to cut them out. None have fell off so far and we've saved hundreds of pounds on buying premade lables!

Store them somewhere. If you renew your Ricoh contract when it's up for renewall, then sell them, if you dont renew you've saved loads of money as you already have a load of printers.

I have very limited knowledge of Linux so looking for some help on getting our Snipe-IT asset management system secured via SSL. I've installed Centos 7 and then installed Snipe-IT on that (both following step-by-step instructions). I've been told that all I need to do with Snipe-IT is to make sure the protocol in the .env APP_URL is https. We have a wildcard SSL certificate (.pfx file - we can convert it to another format I believe if required) I'm hoping this can be used for the above purpose. I've no Idea how to install an SSL certificate on CentOS/Linux so can anyone help with this or point me in the direction of some step-by-step instructions that work?

AMC Computers is where we get them from. You can buy 1 or 2 but we found it you get them in boxes of 10 they end up being cheaper.

Around 90 degrees I would say is about right - although a few we did have to bend slightly to around 100 degrees or so but most stay at 90 degrees - including the one in the main hall where the projector is even higher than any of our other projectors. Light beams (including Infra-Red) are not straight lines and spread out. We have over 50 of these installed and all work OK. Try pointing your remote controls to the left/right of you device (either projector, TV, VCR, Virgin Media Box, Sky Box etc.) and you'll see it will still work. If it only worked in a straight line you'd need a sight like you get on a sniper rifle putting on your remote controls and we'd all be shooting our TVs to change the channel!!
