I dont think they need to be there each year as I cant imagine they get much new business (if any from it).

Sadly they don't seem to be interested in any business from us as they haven't rung me to talk about the things we order etc. and when we've asked for quotes they've gone un-replied so our search for a new supplier continues!

We've just got a load of the Dell Vostro 3568's and they boot up and load Windows very fast compared to our Acer laptops that we were buying. We purchased a couple of different models and one batch came with SSDs that were for student use and one batch came with old-fashioned HDDs for staff use so I took them apart and swapped the HDDs over and noticed that like people have said, the build quality is not that good as on two of them I had a screw left over as when un-screwing it to get the laptop apart, the bit it screws in to on the case fell off! I can understand if it snapped when screwing it in place as it could have been over-tightened, but never see anything snap off due to un-screwing a screw before!

I get the same results with SpeedTest and Fast.

Never heard of http://www.fast.com so have always used Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test but after trying fast.com it's, well, faster! No adverts getting in the way.

If you've only got one slot available then maybe look at a USB VGA adapter.

We went for HP Switches as they come with a lifetime warranty. We have a couple of 10Gb links between 2 buildings and it works great.

Intel Mesh Central is good and free. You log on via a web browser and then you can either view the computer in the web browser or click a link to open a secure RDP session to it.

Replacements we do ourselves but if a ceiling mount is required we get our Electrician to do it as he'd be putting in a power spur any way so while he's up there he does the cable runs for the projector and speakers too. Over the summer we added HDMI connectivity to our projectors (including a HDMI socket on the wall) along with replacing some speakers which we did ourselves. If an urgent job comes in to replace some damaged speakers then it simply depends on our workload if we do it ourselves or get someone in.

Never been able to make use of a pre-created computer account. I tried again the other day as I had a batch of laptops that I had already labelled up with their 'Staff-Lap' number so pre-created the accounts in AD Users and Computers so no one else used them by mistake but I have to delete them before putting one of the laptops on to the domain as it just wont use the ones I have manually created.

It probably does work fine, just like 2016 did when that first came out and the same goes with 2013 and 2010! However, Capita dont support it yet so any issues and you may end up on your own! In the past we had to uninstall 2013 and put 2010 back on the data entry peoples computers as they had an issue and Capita said they didnt support the version of office we were on, oddly enough the error was still there on the version of office they supported so seems to me like an excuse not to try and fix something.

If the two domains have a physical connection you could set up a Trust between the two domains and then you can log on to either of them.

Veeam is recommended for exactly what you are wanting to do, as the free version will basically only do one thing and that's backup VM's to a hard disk! You could purchase SCDPM but it wont backup quite like you want and is over-complicated for a simple back of 2 VM's. I guess you could use the built-in backup solution that Microsoft provides (Windows Server Backup) as I think that will allow you to do what you want.

I was about to download, install it and take a look but found out that Captita SIMS.net wont support it until 2020 at the earliest so that's when we'll look at getting it installed as we use SIMS .net on all staff computers and need to student and staff PCs to match.

In my experience, it's quicker to shutdown the VMs and then shutdown the Host and restart the VMs when the host has come back up. If we need to reboot a host overnight for whatever reason then we just do exactly that and set it to reboot at 'silly o'clock' when nobody in their right mind should be online *touch-wood* 99% of the time all the VMs come back up OK. Sometimes though I have seen VMs that were powered off on purpose be turned back on after a reboot and sometimes I've seen VMs stuck in a saved state and had to Start them up manually.

To save having to install the software manually on the Teachers laptops as and when they request NetSupport School (Tutor) to be installed, I've added it to SCCM using /qn and /norestart and when I tested on my test Staff PC it worked fine. I then noticed my test PC was a bit old as it was still a Windows 8 VM! I've now tried it on a Windows 10 PC and it doesnt work - it just hangs in SCCM saying installing... I've tried it on a 'proper' staff laptop I just pulled out of the cupboard and it's the same. If I manually run the install it works OK. The only thing we've noticed is that although it's an MSI file, a few command prompt windows pop up and do things so we're wondering if that's being blocked by Windows 10 Defender or something - but if this was the case why does it install OK manually for the same user? Have any of you successfully pushed out NetSupport School (Tutor) via SCCM? **EDIT** Update from one of our Teachers has just come in saying that they left it for an hour and then it suddenly installed! I left it running on a PC overnight and it was still sitting there this morning so I'm a little bit confused!

We have a 200Mbps leased line with a Fortinet firewall onsite. It's the Filtering System that requires the SSL, not the firewall.

We asked and with the new systems they put you on it either doesnt work or cant be done. We have guests coming all the time and have to faff around installing the SSL certificate on all their devices with various versions of Android and iOS which have to be done is slightly different ways, most guests just give up and put up with no Internet. If you get it working on your new connection then please update this thread on how you did it. Thanks.

Why not? If you're worried about Group Policies - you don't need a Server OS to create new Windows 10 ones, you just get a Windows 10 PC and create/edit them on that via the RSAT for Windows 10.

After a bit or research, MonitoringHost.exe (which was using shed-loads of RAM) is used by SCOM and nothing else so in Resource Manager I ended the task and watched it slowly release all the RAM it was using and now the server is running as it should with loads of free RAM! Just need to work out how to restart the SCOM client on the server now as we use that to monitor replication etc.
