  1. If that were here I'd have to supply a screenshot with each line. Looks good though
  2. All local with folder redirection for their document folders (for staff and students) and desktop (staff)
  3. Actual failures - maybe 2 in 8 years. Warning that the disks are due to fail - usually 1, sometimes 2 each year. We have about 100 HDD accross all of our servers
  4. I use SCCM for Remote Assistance Deploying/Updating/Removing Software Imaging Computers AntiVirus Monitoring Software Usage Software /Hardware Inventory/Interrogation After the summer I will also be using it for WSUS
  5. I don't understand why him being a diabetic was important - are flowers bad for them? (I didn't watch the video)
  6. They have just been using free apps so far. We take them in each half term and restore an updated backup to each (we have just over 50) containing the apps they want to use and the latest version of iOS. With both purchases we managed to get an apple training day for the teachers which was run as a day-long drop in session with the trainer showing how they could be used to deliver lessons. They print their work via the papercut app. We don't have anything to do with them outside of the half-termly updates. They never bother us with problems with them. Although I was dubious before they are much less of a burden than the netbooks were (especially as the apprentice does the updating) I don't know if they save things anywhere - we've certainly not told them or helped them with that and whenever we've asked we've been told it is fine t wipe them - there's nothing that needs to be kept. They are used in years 3-6. Full-sized iPads - the minis were too small (I didn't argue)
  7. We replaced our primary school classroom-use netbooks with iPads - half in 2013 and half in 2014. They are almost universally loved by teachers and students as a classroom tool - we made the error of not getting in an MDM to sort them out but I'm intending to rectify that over the summer so we can start using paid apps on them. they are much preferred over the netbooks. No keyboards but we did buy some bright cases for them. The High School still uses mostly fixed IT suites but most teachers allow students in years 10+ to use byod in normal lessons if they find it helps them and doesn't distract. Individual teachers decide on a per lesson basis as it was felt they were best placed to know the effect. Teacher's laptops got replaced last year with either an iPad with a keyboard or a Lenovo Miix2/Surface Pro for those who wanted to do actual work on their device (about 30% iPad, 70% windows takeup). This year we are thinking of a Lenovo Yoga or Flex. Software costs aren't huge and as long as I get a free mdm that should be fine. There were slightly more expensive than the netbooks but they are used an awful lot more as well.
  8. I was considering an Up for £100/month. seemed like a good deal. Husband told me to wait til he had a job and then go for it.
  9. I think we use an EPSON EB-G6650WU with a shorter throw lens to project from about that distance in ours
  10. I'd go with 2012r2 hyper-v with gui. Datacenter edition if the price makes sense for you. You can split your vms between the servers and have them fail over to the other one in the event of a problem.
  11. Couldn't agree more
  12. Pretty much how I work as well. Although I also do it to make sure that if there's a problem while I'm away someone can have a reasonable crack at it before bothering me on a day off.
  13. If someone could only package willpower into a nutty chocolate bar I'd be first in line. Its more habit with me - if I'm taken out of my natural surroundings I eat a lot less and hardly ever snack
  14. another vote to virtualise if you can
  15. My first thought was startup ram might be too low. But it could be a gen2 problem

    XCOM 2

Could be my first preorder since the last x-com game
  17. I eat yorkies when I get hungry at work - may 2-3 a week. If I have to resort to the vending machine the choc is 70p a bar My previous job supplied a pack of biscuits each day for each department. I was a department of 1 but I still got my pack of biscuits (usually bourbons but sometimes jaffa cakes) which I happily munched through each and every day. After 18 months I was 2 stone heavier and I've never gotten rid of it.
  18. I usually use a mac mini, i5, 16gb 256ssd but the motherboard broke a couple of weeks ago and so I am using a 64gb/4gb surface pro 1 connected to a usb hub and my 27" monitor. I miss my trackpad (it works so badly in windows I've dug a mouse out of the drawer) Out of the other 4 IT people - 2 have i3 dell 780 towers with 64gbsdd + 320gb hdd and 8gb ram, one has a mac mini specced like mine and one a nuc with an i5, 16gb ram and a 256gb drive. Staff get a cheap i3 64gb/4gb USFF or SFF desktop in their office or classroom, the IT suites get something similar but with double the ram and disk. (staff also have £400-£500 tablet)
  19. We had teachers try both. They preferred the 65" Smart 4k board running at 1080p. We've found the speakers to be fine - we set them to full volume on the board and let the teacher adjust the level from their desktop. The default brightness settings are a bit dim but easily changed.

Dragon Age 3 for both. Currently on my fourth play through although now with first dlc. Coming up to racking up about 300 hours on it. If I play it all the way through again it might beat Skyrim and Civ5 for title of most played game of the last 10 years.
  21. We use AD for user logins, a mac server for workgroup manager for settings and I use Apple Remote Desktop the odd time I want to update some software on them. We don't have many (15) so I've just used time machine backup to image/reimage them when necessary
  22. The new magneto is good. I'm not much of a fan of mcavoy
  23. I don't watch many films but I got around to watching most of the x-men series over the bank holiday weekend. I haven't watched the second wolverine film yet but I quite enjoyed the first one. The weakest of the 6 I watched (I liked them all) was probably the third one (last stand). I used to watch the cartoon quite often in the 90s but unlike Thundercats, Transformers and The Mysterious Cities of Gold I didn't watch them again as an adult. Never read the comics In order of how much I enjoyed them: X2 Days of Future Past First Class Wolverine X-Men The Last Stand While watching them I kept thinking I would have preferred Samuel L Jackson as Professor X
  24. It's as simple as backing up any other server. The back of the backup is about 23TB
