My one tip with macs on a windows network - If you do join macs to the ad domain make sure you set the mac's time server to be the domain controller and don't leave it as an internet one (just type over it with an ip address) - the seemingly tiniest mismatch between them seemed to be the cause of all my login woes with them.

Installing Airserver via GPO - Can't get Bonjour msi working
Sagima replied to mikkydoos's topic in Enterprise Software
I just extracted the bonjourpssetup.exe and used the bonjour msi in that https://support.apple.com/kb/DL999?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_GB -
Over half term we got rid of almost all of our macs and went back to being windows only. Only two of us techs have macs anymore and the head of it wants them gone and won't authorise the parallels update I need to keep the windows bit running properly after the update.

We have a few phones on sim only contract for offsite use but most teachers above a certain level have a school phone anyway and there are usually at least one of those with offsite groups of students and all out-of-country staff are lent one.

I don't think it would have overly bloated the Windows installer to have included a wifi driver for their tablets in windows 10. I ended up sticking the surface drivers in the wim rather than trying to update it afterwards- far easier.

Casio Projectors won't last the distance
Sagima replied to SimpleSi's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We didn't have much luck with NECs projectors. They almost all ended up with black and white dotted projections within four years. Half of them did it within the three year warranty and got replaced most of those have done it again and been replaced with Epsons (EB-93H, X25 and 595Wi). We have one Casio. We were disappointed with the brightness, colour and noise the thing makes so we didn't get any more but it was quite an early model so they may have improved. -
We setup a receive connector for each thing that needs to email anonymously and then use powershell to grant it anonymous rights (I could use the web gui I suppose but I don't). Usually from a specific IP and Port but just port if it's going to be lots of things. If, for some reason, it needs to use authentication to send emails we just set up a service account for it.

Ours have the same SSID broadcasting on both frequencies. don't know about the radius question.

On the DC? - DNS, Domain Services, DHCP. Port forwarding on the firewall from an external ip to the internal one and a restriction on the ip's/ports it can use to access it. If it had been up to me I'd probably have set a new RODC for it but my manager didn't think that was necessary.

That's what we do

Watched Maze Runner at the weekend at the behest of my husband. Not as bad as I was expecting. I may even go so far as to so I quite enjoyed it although I've already forgotten exactly why they were experimenting on the boys and felt the need to have half a dozen or so cybernetic scorpions trying to kill them. Also why was only one of them English and where did they go to get their hair done and find the wax/mousse necessary to maintain the style? - maybe it was in the crates but I'd have though that clothes food and medicine would have been more likely to be in there (at least if I was one of 30 young men penned up in an inescapable maze I'd forgo shaving and hair styling for an umbrella, some cold roasted chicken and a nice book). Maybe I'll find out when the sequel arrives non dvd

My first two thoughts would be you either haven;t installed the role or you still have a mak installed on the server you want to be a kms server (as it needs to have its kms key - the public one for clients)

We haven;t bothered to update our forest from 2008r2 yet either. If it needs it I'll raise it for the new security group functionality of 2016 but otherwise we don't need to use any of the more recent features.

Silly isn't it. You have to ask for them these days. They do it pretty much straight away.

I've never worried about doing schema updates in the middle of the day but it is half term next week so (as I work the holidays) I'd probably wait for that
-
Usually I say "Not a clue but I'll find out and get back to you" if I've been asked about something I don't normally deal with.

SSD then if you do upgrade to a new laptop you can always buy one without the ssd and just swap it.

1. The trackpad is awesome. I used to hate trackpads and now I realise I just hate windows trackpads. The trackpad might be my main reason for using one for the last four years. Better than a mouse too - I really didn't like the magic mouse. 2. It is better than most comparable laptops. 3. That is true but it's also true for win10 when it isn't processing group policy also 4. Fix the os from recovery over the internet and have it come back exactly as you left it Their flaws are that they are quite difficult to fix hardware wise, manage to the level windows is in a corporate environment and relatively expensive to purchase. And here, for me, my boss properly hates them which means getting mine replaced or software for it requires me to sit through a rant about how sh*t macs are. Also better touch tool is a piece of software I consider vital

I think you should take his offer

My initial thought would be faulty ram if it happens at that point. Try opening a VM with just 512meg ram and see if it keeps going?

They are brilliant. Worth every penny.

We've been lucky that the money people believe in training us and spending on the infrastructure but getting them to spend the same on the end equipment or user training is much more difficult.

We use the webpage for windows 7 PCs, the remote desktop app for ios, android, osx and windows 8+ (although I imagine people use the web page for those windows devices sometimes too) We explained what we wanted to do to our ees reseller and they came back (about 3 weeks and a few calls later) and told us we needed the external connector for the students as they weren't employed by us and the cals for the staff as they were. We don't have them log into the server with remotedesktop directly

Airserver 4.0.23 seems to have sorted al of the windows 7,8.1,10/ios8,9 problems we had. We were using different versions depending on what device os was being used. (only the second major issue with staff having byod rather than school-owned managed devices)
