  1. We started with sims connected last week. (Which was fine) but past few days with more schools coming back and there are no words to describe how bad things have been. We probably lost a full days access in total over 2 days. Seems more reliable today but logins are still on the long side with the odd RDS is busy message which suggests too many users being allocated to the application server. We have 2 separate schools sharing about 40+ staff across the 2 schools. We know we are an edge case but setting up staff who work at each school is soooo painful sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. It was such a bad experience for staff I now personally set passwords on new staff and test to make sure they have access to everything without any errors. Little things like admin/teaching staff who work at 3 schools all need to be staff members at each school. This creates 3 sims ID’s but because the email is the same this causes all sorts of issues. You then have to invite the chosen Sims ID to each of the other 2 schools. Wait for the user to accept the invite. Then approve their account again at each school. You then have to assign a security group to allow the sims app for each school to the user. After some hours you can go back into Sims at each school and link their accounts in system manager to the same SIMS ID. If you are lucky you get a working account if not then you have to tell the account to resync with sims ID but you have to find which school the SIMS ID belongs to and do it there! It’s such a faff…..
  2. We have both. Desktops for teaching and laptops for admin tasks. I would never ditch desktops in the classrooms. They are far more reliable than anything else.
  3. We moved to sims connected migration is pretty much complete although it was all spreadsheets (3 schools wasn’t fun at all) I was hoping we would choose arbour because of their API extraction method! Lots of back filling of data will need to be done. Exclusion, All staff contracts(these don’t migrate), student attendance and staff absences from after the extraction date. Setting up sims IDs has been a bit of a shit show tbh. We have a lot of staff that work the 3 schools. By the time we got to the 3rd school the engineer did set it all up his side for me importing all our multi site users! As we have to invite them. They accept the invite. We then have to accept their accepted invite. Then we can assign sims access and link to their sims account within sims…..
  4. My concern is (the same concern with a lot of MIS suppliers) and the homework app suffers from this too. Suppliers will only provide reports they think you need and never provide a simple way for you to build reports yourself. Satchel have also been very cagey with their product… want people to get excited about a product??? give a public recording of a demo with good demo data in the back ground.
  5. And there was me thinking I was missing peoples emails when they would resend a copy a few days later. Maybe there is an issue?
  6. Cereals are where it gets really crazy. For not much different in size shredders I think was £4 or tescos own brand was nearly £3 cheaper on todays shop. There has to be some profiteering going on in the branded products. Edit: just found on Tesco malted wheat 13p v 41p Kellogg’s per 100g…….. l
  7. Oh for sure we work closely throughout the year with the exams officer and the senco who does all the work behind the scenes supporting students from year 7 onwards. 6th form tends to be a bit more adhoc but we do get there in the end. Because it normally ends up looking bad on us we make our own timetable from an export of exam entries. Mocks tend to be a bit more difficult though.
  8. A lot will charge as many will manage the process behind the scenes
  9. Nice thing is there is a json file that you can configure for various scenarios. Drop in which one you need for each exam. We actually manage the entire process including mocks for both our year 10 and 12s that are going on during the same 4 weeks as 11 & 13’s It’s madness!
  10. They wont repair just provide you a not new replacement at more than new cost. Education price is around 1.3k for 65 /4k. Promo offer on 1 per site for non education pricing is under that and nearer 1k mark.
  11. I’ll speak to our exams officer in the morning.
  12. Experienced this in New York last Easter when there was a gun man on the loose after a terror attack on a tube station. I guess by doing a nation wide test it allows the system to be tested at scale. In California I believe they also use it when power levels get critical and it’s been shown to prevent black outs.
  13. Bett is great for comparing screens it’s one of the main reasons I’ve gone in the past. If it’s just about hardware make sure you are buying units with the best viewing angles. I loved avacor screens as they had awesome viewing angles in both vertical and horizontal. We ended up going with promeatheon mainly due to other reasons I can’t remember. I think they used in display touch instead of an overlay. (Avacor)

  15. Would you be able to send via an SMTP connector in o365?.
  16. We've considered external support but mainly because we would probably need it with SIMS anyway.
  17. Just to stick the knife in they are also emailing customers to extend their contracts to end of august if their contract finishes before this date.

  19. Yup effects us, already got initial calls booked with various leading suppliers!
  20. I would try and add some cyber security focus to the role.
  21. These are my numbers from my reader. I was surprised how little our desktops consumed (they are mostly laptop cpus). 20 watt idle and peaking just over 30w under full load. (These are 4th gen intel) 2014 dell 24 inch uses 12.4 at 60% and are significantly lower brightest at their older age. 100% they use 19w. (0.1 on standby) desktop example that use a modern desktop cpu(i5-9500) consume exactly the same as the older intel laptop CPU’s we are running. Kyocera 4052 MFP: 200w idle, 47w sleep (sleep mode 1 minute) 4w in low energy mode. These are set to go low energy mode after 4 minutes and are ready to print by the time a user has logged in and pressed print. So my advice don’t bother with timer plugs if it’s a modern device and energy settings are setup correctly.
  22. I would set the vlan on the switch port to “untagged” instead of tagged. Tagged requires you to set the vlan on the client.
  23. Would love to know if you guys are seeing no UAC prompt when trying to go into other user folders. (It’s my workstation and script saves export file it it’s user area). Just click in The user folder and nothing happens.
  24. In current times you are looking at this wrong. Let them shutdown. Powering on a machine these days shouldn’t take that long. Save your school money and let them.
