On Firefox 51.0.1, 64bit build on El Capitan, I'm occasionally seeing (attached) a horked ticker with things writing over the top of each other. I'm not sure how/when it triggers though - it seems to happen if I search within a forum, but it doesn't always happen - I've seen it a couple of time today.

360 Degree Safe - facepalm moment

Aren't SWGFL behind that site? Submit them to Plain Text Offenders -
Could you expand a bit on the situation? Are you saying: DCs 1 to 5 are all actively using multiple IP addresses* assigned to different network interfaces and they respond to traffic on those IPs? or... Are you saying you've got some legacy/invalid DNS records lying around that relate to those DCs? or a mix of both?

Definitely neater - I assume patch panels went at the bottom because the runs had been done with the shorter cabinet in mind? What's the blue glove on the ceiling for?

What academic year is the person using in SIMS? Look next to the search box on the SIMS homepage - is it 2016/17 or 2015/16? I suppose what I'm saying is "you've stood behing them and observed this yourself to ensure they haven't got their inbox in reverse order, etc...?". Does the person have a habit of acknowledging and dismissing past reminders (to clear them permanently) or just close it, so they pop up again?

Do the issues follow the user to other computers?

^ Similar thing using Observium with optional Smokeping integration. There's also NTopNG (ntop.org) in free and Pro (€149, SNMP integration and better reporting) versions if you want to see what type of traffic is passing through. ntopng – ntop

We have 2FA for RemoteaApp services using Duo Mobile. Generally speaking, staff got on fine (it uses text messages, push notifications, time-based codes or a phone call). Duo documentation is good and it was up and running a couple of hours after the purchase order went through. Staff-wise: We made it clear that 2FA wasn't optional when standing up the new RemoteApp service. I wrote extensive how-to-guides: one per access platform (Windows, iOS, Android, OS X, Linux) and per authentication method (Phone app, text message, phone call), plus a a general overview of how it works and what applications are available. Duo's free for a small amount of users, so you can easily stand up a test platform to see how it behaves (link it to your desktop login, for example) I will note that the pricing we get (business tariff $1/user/month) rate is no longer available to new customers.

Where does the ActivInspire first-run dialogue choice get stored?
pete replied to pete's topic in Promethean Direct Support
It's more of a "removing a delay involved in dithering over decisions that don't make much difference" would-be-nice. But if it's gunked in amongst the 200-ish binary .io files, then yeah - it's a lost cause unless I put it in the default profile on the device when sysprepping. -
If it's the first time a person has run ActivInspire, they're asked: "Which of the applications below are you most familiar with?" With a choice of ActivStudio 3, ActivPrimary (I think) or Powerpoint. Which file is that choice stored in for subsequent logins? Can I set a default (ActivStudio 3) somewhere?

Questions about the admin.ini file for ActivInspire
pete replied to pete's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Thanks @peferraro, Just to confirm after reading through the attached Word doc, which includes variable examples for Linux and OSX - does ActivInspire also understand the Windows variables: %username% %homedrive% %homepath% %userprofile% in UNC paths? -
Questions about the admin.ini file for ActivInspire
pete posted a topic in Promethean Direct Support
I've a couple (ok, maybe more than a couple) of questions about using the admin.ini file: 1 If wanted to specify the Personal Resources path (number 4 in the admin.ini) and used: 4=\\server\share\%username%\Activ Software\ActivInspire\My Resources would it resolve that correctly? I'm looking to add some reasonably user-agnostic settings the admin.ini in a bid to speed up load times. 2 If 0 (User's profile path) isn't specified, does it assume C:\users\username...... is the correct path? 3 In terms of time-to-load, which of the settings within admin.ini cause the greatest improvement in startup times. I'm aware this is probably "it depends" - on average, what should have the most impact? 4 We use folder redirection for staff laptops, does ActivInspire handle paths set in admin.ini nicely if the laptop is at home? cheers -
Same as @mjk really. Our intake is relatively affluent and we simply refused to accept cash. FSM info is automatically fed into the catering system to adds funds to the student accounts. Now I'm not saying it was easy to get there, but now it's the norm it's relatively trouble-free.

BT Yahoo or just Yahoo? I know BT silently drop emails if the user has ever marked an email from you as spam. The TLDR is "if [email protected]" gets marked as spam by a BTyahoo (btinternet.com) user, all subsequent emails will not be delivered to that user and the NDR you receive will be inaccurate. There's a SIMS KB article (KB-473347, reproduced below) about it that specifically related to InTouch:

Speaking to Sophos sales, they say the cloud filter is good for Office 365, but won't really be good for on-premises until May-ish.
-
^ What's O365 like at detecting invoice scams? In-school we're reasonably covered against the ones that slip through, I'm more concerned about out of school where there's no filtering gateway between the client device and the Internet.
-
Currently it's onsite exchange, but it's due for upgrade/replace/set on fire and go to O365. Looking for an offsite filter preferably for flexibility (will work with local exchange and O365) and a reasonably clean feed getting to the mailserver.
-
We need a new provider to replace our current upstream (smarthost setup) mail filter. We're so far investigating AVG's cloud offering and Sophos (both are apparently based on the same system from Reflexion networks, who Sophos bought). What are you using and how well does it work? My main complaint with the current provision (IronMail) is that it does a poor job of identifying invoice scams and the like. This is most likely a configuration problem on their end, but that's another rant.

That seems about twice what I'd expect around here, but expand on "challenging" - has it collapsed or something?

Maybe he's saving the Contoso post for BTRD?
-
Nope. A test user opted into preview features also doesn't appear to have it either.
-
I'd say this is one of the signs of why the school asked you to start contracting for them. I've seen it before and it was merely the tip of the completely pants-on-head iceberg.
-
I'm seeing it here (spotted the announcement) if I go to admin.onedrive.com but it's not (from the quick poking about I did) in the usual admin centers area of the dashboard.

According to Microsoft licensing you can't use an OEM license for personal use (build it, use within the same business/home). When building for others it's perfectly fine. There was a short while that you could do that with an Windows 8 license, but Microsoft changed terms when 8.1 came out. https://www.microsoft.com/OEM/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/licensing_faq.aspx#fbid=8VnxJVOPv4F Microsoft marketing material and the website has historically (Windows 7-ish) had conflicting OK/Not OK information. Whether you can find a non-dodgy source of unused Windows 8 OEM licences is another matter.
