Problem is over the last 2+ years ESS have been trying to regain control of the databases so any contract you signed in the last 3 years to go to SIMS online you would have signed away your rights to continue ownership of the sql database. Get out the T&C of your last 3 year contract and have a read.

Firstly you have to get something clear in your head and the powers that be's heads - as it's been proven time and time again over the last two decades. Outsourcing ICT drives up costs, often significantly, and reduces service quality, sometimes significantly. Fact. So keep it in house at all costs. People who actually want to work for you and improve things. As for the funding, it's difficult. Schools are notoriously tight - they won't want to pay anthing greater than £0. You'll have to do some good speadsheets to work out the costs and then decide are you expecting each school to fund the IT service 100% or is the MAT going to share some of the cost centrally?

Just to show you I aint lying - only support call ever on these MFDs was when they were originally commissioned in the summer hols and I was going round and the engineers were conneting them all up.

I'll always go Ricoh now as so many of the other makes have had lots of problems i've got multiple 7 year old ricoh units in service right now that have NEVER had an engineer call. In fact a cover teacher that was leaving said the other week "ive worked in a hundred schools and this is the only school where the photocopiers work all day every day you just go tap card out it comes hey presto" I took that as a very big compliment really.

Synology is outstanding, lov the kit, love the interface, but you have to buy a licence for each non synology camera you add so that can work out expensive. You do get what you pay for. I'd never buy another hikvision NVR as their juist trash. Unifi is good but it's a bit inbred and tied in to unifi cameras so not really an option in most schools that have a lot of non unifi cameras (ok if your starting on a new project tho). Really, synology and unifi are the only "next gen" platforms - most of the rest are roughly the same style as hikvision i.e old style windows 95 interface on non cloud/web technology.

Gatland should never have come back. The WRU is the problem here but that quango is never gonna change. Ah well - due to cancelling my TV licence, I only watch the games in the pub so at least I can drink myself into a vegatitive state when we lose (i.e every game).

I think the decision has kinda been taken out of your hands anyway - ESS have been literaly forcing schools to move from on prem to connected over the last 2 years. The chances of them allowing you to bring it back on prem and then giving you any future support are approximatly nil.

Ooooooooh This sounds good our paxton is linked to our fire alarm and we alreayd have a big red button set up on the paxton system. So your saying it's possible the big red button could then sent message from paxton to fire alarm to sound some kind of alarm?

Hi do you send the bell and thelockdown opn the PC differently - i.e do differnt poeple have to sit there and send those messages etc? I am looking for something fully autopmatic hit a red button and it does it all but cant find anything that isnt cut-out-your-kidney inducingly expensive :/

I would cancel the migration until a proper migration plan can be agreed. The method of migration should have been fully fleshed out and agreed befoure you even purchased?? Populating 38 CSV files is a recipie for human error and problems moving forward?

Tested it here on SIMS connected - it opens jpg files in MS Paint? Check the file associations on the actual PC itself to make sure Jpegs open in Paint or the like?
