I think half our role now is purely influencing and convincing Governors/Head/SLT/Business Manager to prioritise ICT spending as ICT is the fourth utility didn't you know! I bet your trust cant afford 200 pcs but has spent £50k on vape sensors or something else along those lines. In my experience, there is ALWAYS money it's just convincing them to spend it on ICT rather than on some other crap waste of money scheme.

I am 80% newer kit - hoping to get funding in april to do the last 3 IT suites and acouple of PCs dotted around that are still older Dell Optiplex's. If your bending over backwards bodging stuff to try and get/keep archaic kit working on windows 11 then your shooting yourself (and your school) in the foot IMHO as this is an absoloute golden opportunity to get new kit funded by order of Microsoft/Local Authority/Trust Directors/Government. You dont get many chances to say "we have to/we've been instructed to" this is one of them.

I use google keep for daily notes. Realistically if you want to organise your workload properly you need to implement an IT helpdesk so that all jobs go on the system for you to see. You should theoretivcally never miss a job then!

Spec looks good to be honest. I am expecting the 50 series to be more expensive than the 40 series. I guess £600 range for 5070/ti. I am thinking of getting one myself I'll see prices first £600 is too steep. CPU wise the X3D models are usually 10-20% faster in a lot of games so probably worth having if you are planning to keep the PC for 5 years. What resolution you playing in? 1080p is going to mostly be CPU limited, 4k is going to be mostly GPU limited.

If you dont want to go specialist what about normal A/V kit, about some kind of wireless microphone with hip battery playing into any amp/speaker combp or all in one speaker unit?

I would get a Ryzen 7 X3D (whatever the best one is out next month) as you don't want to gimp your brand new 5070ti with a low end CPU. Scan are reasonably good builders I have heared - not used them myself as i've been building my own PCs for the last 25 years or so. Frankly I would build the entire PC myself if I were you you have full control over the components and build quality, and frankly it's pretty easy just slot things into slots and screw a few screws into holes.

I think the real question is if the document is that confidential should be be being shared with a non-employee? It all depends on the content of the document. If it's a spreadsheet of all the welbeing issues for all the pupils then HECK NO. If it is a letter to the parent and the parent only and doesnt concern any data for any other pupil parent or teacher then yes maybe that could be sharable. Be careful either way as stuff like this is a data breech just waiting to happen. Don't forget that when you share a document with someone outside of school you effectively lose control over that data, the parent can do anything with it from forwarding it to printing it and leaving it in their car to sending it to the local newspaper.

Live sound and lighting is never on anyones agenda in a school. I've been trying to get our hall lights upgraded for 20 years. The actual lights must be approx 35 years old now. No ones ever interested in spending any money on lights. Now - it's so decrepid that their spending loads of money hiring light and sound for every show. *bangs head against brick wall*

Why did ya book a hotel in newcastle mun? Theres loads of hotels within a 10 min walk of the venue. Mind you the tube system is good so you should be fine - last time I went they closed a couple of the lines which made it more stressful and complicatd than it needed to be.

Start with the basics - you need very good gate and door access and guest sign in system linked to the fire alarm and preferably inked in to CCTV systems. Controlling who goes where and auditing who did what and when, is going to be high on the list of essentials. Equipment wise I would go down the road of good quality tier 1 manufacturer refurbished equipment if you think theres likely to be a high level of vandalism. Buying new is pointless in that scenario as all your doing is spending more and getting a warranty which you can never use as they're not gonna fix a laptop that's had 20 keys ripped off it and been engraved with a house key. Try and buy equipment you know you can get third party spares from e.g. if you buy a lenovo 100e chromebook you can get a screen for 20 or 25 quid and fix it same day - if you buy a 300e then you can't get third party screens and a lenovo one is gonna be over £150 quid so that device is written off.

I think you've got to make the head of department the owner of all of that department's mark sheets. At lease that's how it's set up here (not by me, by the data team) I just had a look. All the History marksheets have the Head of History as the Owner for example.
