Yep APs are not end user devices though they are already infrastructure. A different classification than pcs phones etc.

98% of end user devices do not need more than 1 gig. Some exceptions might be computer science, media and music creation of those devices are using NAS/SAN storage. This may change, but for the forseeable as we only have 1 gig internet and most usage nowadays and moving forward is all internet - what's the point of having 500 devices each with 10 gig connectivity all going through a gynormous 1gig WAN bottleneck? it would be a total waste of time and money.

Your main problem is that the old 2510G-24 etc are so damn reliable they'll keep working forever. If they'd have died 5 years ago they'd have found the money.

"SLT Buy in" followed by Limited Budget. Problem is SLT don't physically see network switches (like they see ipads or chromebooks having an effect) or understand their significance so it doesnt really exist to them. A lot of schools find it hard to get across the importance.

Eh? So it's not the Data Protection Officers job to filter out the requests but it's whoever is in charge of data protection (should be the DPO??) job? Doesnt make much sense. DPO is ultimatly responsible for it all.

I hope you manage to get there! The reprocussions if not can be severe. One of my neighbours is IT in a Fortune 500 - they literally had to shut down worldwide IT for at least a month due to cyber attack. I think the total cost is now into 9 figures and still going up every day. Because schools get their per pupil income money no matter what - it's very hard to get them secure as there is no carrot "we will go bankrupt" to dangle in front of the donkey, the money will keep coming in the school will stay open, etc.

Bout time - the spanish were totlaly useless at forecasting Uk weather.

Luckily I managed to keep permanent wall mounted as the only option so we don't have any of these. I know some schools do though - particularly primary schools.

Frankly, no - end user devices do not need more than 1GB at the moment norprobably for the next 5 years. Only exceptions to that could be specialist IT kit, video editing music editing, etc that may need to store large amounts of data on a server. But normal PCs/Laptops/Chromebooks/etc? No.

Are requirements really that different or is it a case of with corporate the answer is always default "no - no questions asked" wheras in education the answer more often than not needs to be "yes - we've figured out how to do it and still be safe".

Errrr the meeting host must have actually clicked and let the "read.ai meeting notes" "person" join the meeting in the first place? If so, why? Do they usually allow random people that they don't know to join important confidential meetings? That needs looking at too, their end!

Good thread I am thinking about things like this now as I'll be jobless in Sept and been a bit restless in my house for the last year so could just sell all up and start a new life somewhere else. A friend of mine reccomended Qatar instead of Dubai said you'd get the same pay but it's more relaxed and a bit more chill. Would you agree @vikpaw ? Thanks

In an ideal world you could have a Domain Admin acount for each member of staff - but this does is only to be used on a dedicated privelidged access workstation / server / VM to do active dir stuff etc. Not a daily use PC no waching youtube on it and general web browsing etc. Then I have a server account for doing individual work on servers/vms that has local admin on all servers. Then you can have your tech accounts which have elavated permissions on your local tech pcs in your office e.g. local admin. Then you need a sperate technician account for technicians to work on the individual pcs out in the wild, if this account has anything go wrong it's one account with no Y drive no server connections preferably just elaceted access or even local admin on each PC. keeping the accounts seperate is the key to mitigating risk - the DA for rare stuff that needs DA, the server accoutnonly used for servers in the server room, the tech account for pcs in the wild, and your own office pc tech accout should never be domain admins or have wide ranging permissions.
